127: Chapter 127 The Final Obstacle
He Tie lay at the very front, the wound on his leg bursting open. Blood gushed from his pant leg, staining the rock dark red. Gritting his teeth, he tried to push himself up, but as soon as his arms left the ground, the gravity crushed him back down. His face slammed into the rock, his nose bloodied from the impact.
Zhang Feng lay on the ground, his whole body trembling, unable to even lift his head. Under two hundred times gravity, the wound on his shoulder felt like it was being torn apart, blood seeping through the bandages and trickling down his arm.
Lao Liu knelt on one knee, both hands propping him up against the rock, his fingernails digging into the crevices. The veins on his neck bulged as if they were about to burst.
"Retreat... retreat for now..." Chu Tianye's voice squeezed through his gritted teeth.
Lin Mo bent low, backing away step by step.
With every step back, the gravity lightened slightly.
Only after retreating about ten meters did the gravity return to normal.
The five of them collapsed on the ground, gasping for air.
He Tie leaned against a stone and re-wrapped the bandage on his leg. Halfway through, his hands were shaking so violently that Lao Liu had to help him tie the knot.
Chu Tianye sat up and looked at the area ahead. Steam was still rising from the fissure, and a dark red light pulsed deep within.
Lao Liu cursed, "Is that Earth Roar crazy? Why would it nest in a hellhole like this?"
He Tie shook his head while tightening his bandage, wincing in pain. "Could someone have trapped it here on purpose?"
Zhang Feng was stunned for a moment. "Trapped it here on purpose? Could it be those Mimics? Aren't they on the same side?"
Zhang Feng's words startled Chu Tianye. He turned his head to look at the faint, dark red patterns around the distant fissure.
Those patterns extended from deep within the fissure like blood vessels or tree roots, densely covering the rock walls of the entire basin, still faintly pulsing.
"It's a Gravity Amplifier. It looks even more powerful than military-grade ones!"
"This kind of thing should only exist in the West Federation. How do these Mimics have it? Could they be in league with the West Federation?"
Zhang Feng swallowed hard. "Then why go to all this trouble to trap a Rank Seven Beast King? What's their angle?"
No one answered, but everyone thought of the same thing.
The Earth Roar was out of control. The Mimics couldn't fully control it, so they could only use this method to forcibly suppress it here. But what exactly were they trying to do?
Lao Liu cursed, "Dammit, this is getting way too deep."
Chu Tianye stared at the patterns for a long time before suddenly standing up. "Stop thinking about it. Our mission is to finish setting up the locators. In the face of Tianshu, any conspiracy is useless!"
Lao Liu pointed at the area ahead. "But the last positioning point is inside the gravity field. How do we get in? A person would be flattened as soon as they walked in."
Chu Tianye didn't speak but turned to look at Lin Mo. Lin Mo closed his eyes to try, then opened them and shook his head. "Space itself is compressed. I can't use my Instant Shadow inside the gravity field!"
Lao Liu opened his mouth but swallowed his words.
If even Lin Mo couldn't get in, then they were screwed.
He Tie suddenly stood up, stretched his limbs, and sheathed his blade at his waist.
"I'll try."
Lao Liu's eyes widened. "Are you crazy?"
He Tie ignored him, took a deep breath, and stepped into the area.
After just a few steps, his body suddenly sagged, and the rock beneath his feet cracked.
Gritting his teeth, he steadied himself and took a few more steps. His knees buckled slightly, but he held firm.
By the time he reached the ten-meter mark, He Tie's back was bent like a shrimp's. Veins bulged on his forehead, and the blood vessels on his neck stood out clearly.
Lao Liu rushed in and dragged him out.
He Tie lay on the ground, covered in blood, his face as white as paper, but a smile hung on the corner of his mouth.
"If I weren't injured... I might have barely been able to withstand it..."
Chu Tianye knelt down, looking toward the fissure. After a long silence, he stood up, pulled a locator from his waist pouch, and shoved it into Lao Liu's hand.
"The rest of you take care of the four surrounding positioning points. Leave the one inside the gravity field to me!"
Lao Liu grew anxious. "Commander!"
"Cut the crap. You can't get in. Going in would just be suicide."
Zhang Feng opened his mouth to say something, but seeing Chu Tianye's expression, he swallowed his words.
Lao Liu gripped the locator until his knuckles turned white. Finally, he gritted his teeth and nodded.
Chu Tianye turned and walked into the gravity zone.
The sensation of two hundred times gravity pressing down was like having an entire mountain on his shoulders.
"Let's go!" Lao Liu gritted his teeth and stood up, handing out locators to Zhang Feng and He Tie.
"I'll take the east, Old He the west, Zhang Feng the south, and the north..."
He looked at Lin Mo.
"I'll take the north." Lin Mo took the locator and headed north.
The four of them scattered in four directions.
Although the gravity at the edge of the field wasn't as terrifying as at the center, it was still enough to make breathing difficult.
With every step, their feet felt like they were filled with lead. The wounds on their legs were being pulled apart, and blood seeped out continuously.
Lao Liu crouched by a rock to the east and pressed the locator into a crevice.
The indicator light turned on, flashing red. He stared at the light for two seconds before turning to limp back.
He Tie was in the west. He used the back of his blade to hammer the device in. Once the indicator light lit up, he leaned against the rock wall for a breath before heading back.
Lin Mo was in the north and moved the fastest. He wedged the locator into the rock wall. Once the indicator light lit up, he didn't rush back but stood there, watching the figure in the center of the gravity field.
Chu Tianye was still moving forward.
His left arm hung limp and motionless. Using the blade in his right hand as a crutch, he stabbed it into the rock, pulled it out, and stabbed it in again. With every step, another hole appeared in the rock.
Lao Liu returned, collapsing on the ground and gasping for air.
He Tie returned, leaning against a stone with his eyes closed, the blood from his leg staining the rock red.
Zhang Feng was the last to return, lying on the ground motionless for a long time.
"The four points are all set," Lao Liu said softly. "Now it's just up to the Commander."
The four of them lay at the edge of the gravity field, watching that distant figure.
"One hundred and fifty meters... one hundred and twenty... one hundred..." Lao Liu muttered, his voice growing tighter.
Chu Tianye's nose began to bleed, the blood dripping down his chin onto the rock. His knees buckled and straightened, buckled and straightened.
The distance closed, the dark red light grew brighter, and waves of heat rolled over him. The air was so hot it made his lungs ache.
Just then, over a dozen dark shadows emerged from the darkness.
"Enemy attack!" Lao Liu cried out, drawing his blade.
The leader was incredibly fast. Even within the range of the gravity, their speed remained astonishing.
Mimics—and a Rank Five Mimic at that! The others appeared to be Rank Four Mimics as well. Their strength was formidable.
Lin Mo's expression changed. He stood up and walked to the front.
"You guys stay back."
Lao Liu was stunned.
Lin Mo drew Longyuan. Cyan-gold lightning pulsed along the blade. He took a step forward and vanished from the spot.
