30: Chapter 30 What is that? Such speed!

Lin Mo's figure moved so fast he left only a blurry afterimage. Wu Feng, following closely behind, was no slower.

Lao Yu and Lao Hei were slightly slower; both were in the early stage of Rank Two, and their speed was significantly lower than that of Lin Mo and Wu Feng.

Yi Xiaoyu and two other boys fell to the back, but they still followed from a distance.

Soon, Lin Mo and Wu Feng crested the hilltop.

Standing on the slope, Wu Feng and Lin Mo finally saw the human survivors.

In the hollow of the hill, seven or eight blood-soaked veterans were backed against the wreckage of a broken armored vehicle, forming a thin defensive arc.

However, only about half of these veterans emitted the aura of Rank Two; the others were merely Rank One Awakeners.

Inside the defensive line were more than twenty students.

Some crouched on the ground trembling, while others gripped each other's hands, trying to dispel the fear in their hearts.

The two girls furthest inside seemed to have broken down; they knelt on the ground crying while trying to stop the bleeding of the wounded, but the blood surged through their fingers, impossible to stem.

The other girls weren't much better; though they didn't cry aloud, their bodies shook uncontrollably, their shoulders twitching.

The boys gripped their weapons tightly, but not one of them stood forward—not because they didn't want to, but because their legs would no longer obey them.

The defensive line was already teetering on the brink.

On the other side were wolves.

A dense pack of Wind Wolves!

Their blue-gray fur glinted coldly under the afterglow of the setting sun; at a rough count, there were no fewer than fifty of them.

"Not good! Wind Wolves! And so many of them!"

Wu Feng couldn't help but speak out.

Wind Wolves were late-stage Rank One pack-hunting beasts. They possessed both agility and explosive power, and could even spit Wind Blades. They belonged to the most troublesome handful of Rank One beasts.

"They're going to be hard to handle. There are too many, and there are several Rank Two elites among them!"

Lin Mo also frowned.

He could cut through late-stage Rank One beasts like the Rock Armor Beast as easily as slicing vegetables.

This was because the Rock Armor Beast, aside from its outstanding defense, had relatively simple attack methods, making it an easier type to deal with.

But the Wind Wolf was different. Although also late-stage Rank One, the Wind Wolf possessed both speed and explosive power, and its individual strength surpassed that of the Rock Armor Beast by a margin.

Moreover, Wind Wolves had a ranged attack; the Wind Blades they spat from their mouths posed a significant threat even to Rank Two Awakeners.

However, firing a Wind Blade required a certain amount of charging time, which was a relatively large weakness.

But when their numbers reached a certain point, this weakness would be infinitely minimized.

When fifty or sixty Wind Wolves gathered together, even a Rank Two Awakener wouldn't dare to charge them head-on.

At this moment, the few Wind Wolves standing at the front were pacing slowly, gradually closing in on the surviving group.

These beasts were cautious and didn't rush to attack, but it wasn't because they lacked the courage.

They were waiting—waiting for their prey to drain the last of their courage.

The pack behind them was also waiting, waiting for the elite Wind Wolves to finish their probing and issue the command to charge.

"Don't panic! Everyone, don't panic!"

The veteran blocking the front roared at the students behind him.

His left forearm was severed at the wrist, his bandages were unraveling, and blood dripped from his fingertips. He no longer expected to attack; he only hoped his body could hold out for one more second to give the children behind him one more second of a chance to live.

But behind him, someone was already crying.

"Mom... I want to go home..."

"I don't want to die... I'm scared, I'm so scared..."

The sobbing sounds were very light, scattered as soon as the wind blew.

The veterans' brows were tightly furrowed. They heard the sobbing behind them, but none of them turned their heads.

They were afraid that if they turned, the beasts opposite them would take the opportunity to charge.

The Wind Wolves' pacing grew faster, their tails flattened, and their hind legs tensed with power.

They were about to charge.

"Motherfuckers—!"

A sudden shout exploded like a thunderclap!

Wu Feng charged down from the slope like a cannonball leaving the barrel.

"Seventh Battalion, Elite Assault Team, here to reinforce on orders."

"Those who can still fight, stand up."

Lao Yu and Lao Hei followed closely behind, their standard-issue rifles firing in bursts. Bullets poured onto the Wind Wolves' bodies, blasting out small pits.

But strangely, not a single drop of blood flowed out.

The bodies of late-stage Rank One beasts were already tough enough to ignore the fire from ordinary rifle bullets.

Aside from individual rocket launchers or anti-materiel firearms, the lethal limit of individual weaponry stopped at mid-stage Rank One beasts.

And the Wind Wolf was late-stage Rank One; its fur alone could block almost all firearm bullets.

Lin Mo didn't shout like Wu Feng and Lao Yu.

He was simply fast, even faster than Wu Feng.

So fast that only a blurry afterimage could be seen.

Because he had already activated the active effect of the God Speed entry.

He had to plunge into the center of the pack before the Wind Wolves could react.

Otherwise, once the Wind Wolves reacted and set their formation, even he would be helpless.

After all, he was only at the first level of Rank Two; he would still die if he took a Wind Wolf's Wind Blade head-on.

A middle-aged military officer wearing Lieutenant's shoulder straps stood at the very front. When he saw Lin Mo and the others on the slope, his eyes instantly turned red.

He roared his commands:

"Hold! Everyone hold! Reinforcements, our reinforcements are here!"

Soon, everyone jerked their heads around to look toward the slope.

They saw four figures charging toward the battlefield at incredible speeds.

The one in the lead was incredibly young, with a battle saber in a dark green scabbard at his waist. He trailed afterimages as he ran, fast as a falcon skimming the ground.

The Lieutenant's pupils shrank. This speed—at least late-stage Rank Two!

"Reinforcements! It's a late-stage Rank Two expert!"

"And two of them came at once!"

He shouted hoarsely, his heart pounding wildly.

The defensive zone he was in was on the edge of the beast tide. Logically, the ones coming here to support should be assault squads with higher numbers.

Shouldn't a squad with two late-stage Rank Two Awakeners go to the main battlefield?

Although the Lieutenant was puzzled, he didn't have time to think deeply.

"Brothers, take up your weapons! Cover the reinforcements' entry!"

The Lieutenant roared with grand momentum.

However, just after he finished roaring, in the next second...

He saw the face of the figure in the lead clearly.

Cold features, combat uniform tattered beyond recognition, and incredibly young! No more than twenty years old...

This wasn't some elite of an assault team!

This was clearly a student!

"Shit! That student! Get the fuck back here!"

The Lieutenant's eyes nearly split from strain as the hope that had just risen in his heart was instantly extinguished.

The reinforcements he had waited so long for turned out to be a student?!

"This is a Wind Wolf pack! This is no place for you to play the hero! Come back!"

Despite his extreme disappointment, the Lieutenant still couldn't bear to see a student lose his life.

However, Lin Mo ignored him completely.

He only knew that he had to break their formation before the wolf pack could react!

"Lingyan Steps, activate!"

Lin Mo gave a cold shout. As he approached within 200 meters of the wolf pack, he suddenly activated Lingyan Steps, and his speed climbed yet another level.

The wolf pack was in a commotion. They had naturally seen the several figures charging down from the slope, but because their numbers were so large, they hadn't had time to fully turn around before Lin Mo flashed before them.

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!!!

zhan chao was unsheathed, and successive flashes of blade light followed!

Before the first wolf's body could hit the ground, the blood of the second and third had already sprayed onto the same rock.

A mist of blood filled the air.

The elite Wind Wolves standing in the front row halted their steps and turned their heads in unison toward the other side of the pack.

A few short roars rose from among them, as if they were trying to identify what that thing was that had just flashed past—such incredible speed!
