17: Chapter 17 Beast Tide Eruption
Lin Mo's pupils constricted slightly.
The communication bracelet is standard equipment for every Awakener entering the frontline, capable of receiving camp instructions in real-time. Everyone must wear it 24 hours a day; the old quartermaster previously said it couldn't even be taken off while showering.
"It's an emergency mission! Could a beast tide have broken through the patrol district defenses?"
Lin Mo immediately turned around and sprinted toward the camp.
After more than ten minutes, he finally arrived at the camp gate.
The sentry soldier was visibly stunned when he saw Lin Mo rushing in from the outside; he was too fast, too fast to be at the level of a new recruit. But under the state of emergency assembly, no one asked questions.
When Lin Mo rushed into the camp, he found the atmosphere had completely changed.
The looseness after the training was gone.
Soldiers were pouring out of the barracks fully armed, and many veterans were checking their firearms, the clicking sounds of loading echoing incessantly.
The logistics team pushed carts filled with ammunition boxes out of the warehouse, the temporary tents outside the medical station were all taken down, and nurses were counting bandages and blood bags.
There was a suffocating smell in the air.
Everything pointed to one reason: a great battle was coming!
"All student soldiers! Assemble at the training ground!"
"Repeat, all student soldiers! Assemble at the training ground within three minutes!"
Lin Mo didn't stop his pace and ran toward the training ground.
The scene he saw along the way made his heart sink: five stretchers were parked in front of the camp headquarters building, covered with white cloths, but the dark red bloodstains seeping from the edges had already soaked through the fabric.
Casualties had already occurred.
On the training ground, over a thousand student soldiers were gathered in a chaotic mess.
Most people's faces were filled with bewilderment and fear; only a few students from the Elite Assault Team remained relatively calm, though their eyes also hid uneasiness.
Lin Mo scanned the area and quickly found the Jiangcheng University team.
Lin Sisi stood in the front row of the team, Ye Zhixia was beside her, whispering something to a few girls from the medical group, and Zhao Fansheng stood at the very back of the team, his gaze lingering on Lin Mo for a moment while scanning the crowd.
"Quiet!"
Yuan Shoucheng walked onto the high platform, the megaphone in his hand emitting a harsh screech.
He wasn't wearing his regular uniform today, but a full set of combat gear, with a bizarrely shaped battle saber at his waist, and the scar on his face was fierce in the morning light.
"One hour ago, the 15th to 17th patrol sections of the Nanling defense line were simultaneously attacked by large-scale ferocious beasts!"
"It is currently confirmed that there are over 20,000 individuals of Tier 1 and above, and the number of non-ranked individuals is at least 50,000!"
The training ground fell into a dead silence.
Then, irrepressible exclamations erupted.
"It seems the 17th sector is less than thirty kilometers from our camp, right? Is that the patrol district of Outpost No. 8?"
"Twenty thousand Tier 1 and above ferocious beasts! That's so many! Fortunately, it didn't happen in our patrol district..."
"It's too terrifying, these damn ferocious beasts..."
Someone sighed with relief at surviving a disaster.
With so many ferocious beasts, no matter which patrol district it happened in, it would be a disaster.
Not to mention whether they could hold the line, their side would definitely suffer heavy casualties.
Yuan Shoucheng let the panic spread for three seconds, then slammed the megaphone: "Shut up!"
The voice suppressed all the noise.
"Now, I declare Outpost No. 9 is in a state of Level 2 combat readiness! All leave is canceled, all training is suspended, all personnel are to stand by in wartime groups, ready to support Outpost No. 8 at any time!"
"Logistics support team, report to the ammunition depot, medical station, and engineering maintenance point immediately! Your mission is to ensure the continuous supply of frontline materials, timely treatment of the wounded, and that the defense works remain intact! Do you understand?!"
"Understood!" the logistics team responded in unison, but their voices were weak.
"Regular patrol teams, you are responsible for the perimeter security of the camp and auxiliary defense of the defense line! Remember, your eyes are the eyes of the defense line, and your ears are the ears of the defense line! Report any abnormalities immediately!"
The patrol team students nodded with solemn expressions.
Finally, Yuan Shoucheng looked at the hundred or so people in the Elite Assault Team, his eyes complex for a moment.
"Elite Assault Team!"
His voice was lower.
"Your mission is... to follow me to the 15th to 17th Patrol Districts to carry out counterattack and clearing operations."
A few students from Lingwu University had fighting spirit ignited in their eyes, but more people turned pale.
Counterattack? Clearing? Facing over 20,000 Tier 1 and above ferocious beasts and over 50,000 non-ranked ferocious beasts?
"As for the bait post—"
Yuan Shoucheng's gaze finally fell on Lin Mo and the other two.
"The three from the bait post, just like the veterans of the Seventh Battalion's bait post, are incorporated into the assault team for unified action. Your mission is only one—"
His gaze slowly swept over Lin Mo and the other two.
"Ensure your squad arrives at the designated coordinates smoothly. Any obstacles encountered on the way, use your blades, use your lives, to clear them for me."
Finally, Yuan Shoucheng looked at all the assault team members and said:
"All squads, you must arrive at the designated coordinates within two hours! The brothers at Outpost No. 8 are risking their lives to drag out the beast herd. Every minute you are late, ten more soldiers might die!"
"Do you all understand?!"
"Understood!!"
...
...
Ten minutes later, 160 veterans plus 180 students, plus Lin Mo and the other two, totaled 343 people.
Lin Mo saw several acquaintances inside; Lin Sisi and Ye Zhixia were both here, as well as the squad leader Zhao Fansheng.
Yuan Shoucheng divided these 343 people into 30 squads, each led by a veteran of at least late Tier 2, and lined them up into thirty rows on the open space in front of the camp.
Lin Mo's squad belonged to the 22nd Squad, and the captain was a young Lieutenant around 30 years old. Although young, he had the cultivation of Tier 2, Stage 7.
"Lin Mo, you're assigned to our squad? That's great!!"
A student greeted Lin Mo; it was Class 3 squad leader Zhao Fansheng.
"Squad leader!"
Lin Mo responded indifferently.
"Hey, don't call me squad leader. I'm not a squad leader anymore. Here, we only have captains!"
Zhao Fansheng waved his hand, his tone seeming very sincere.
At this moment, the captain of Lin Mo's assault team also walked over.
"Oh? Zhao Fansheng, you and Lin Mo are classmates?"
Captain Wu Feng smiled and patted Zhao Fansheng on the shoulder, seemingly approving of him.
Lin Mo looked at Zhao Fansheng meaningfully and found that this guy did have extraordinary qualities; he had just entered the Elite Assault Team and had already gained the captain's approval!
"Yes, we are classmates. At school, I was his squad leader. Now we have become comrades-in-arms. This is fate!"
Zhao Fansheng replied.
"Hmm, not bad. In the future, you will become brothers of life and death, experiencing life and death together!" the captain nodded.
Soon, the team was assembled.
With an order from Yuan Shoucheng, thirty squads set off simultaneously, following the established route to rush to support Outpost No. 8.
