131: Chapter 131 Urgent Telegram from Ling Wucheng

The moment Lin Mo landed, his legs went weak, and he almost fell to his knees.

His Dragonborn Form was slowly fading; the blue-gold scales sank beneath his skin one by one, the bone spurs retracted into his spine, and the claw blades withdrew into his fingertips. His dark golden slit pupils flashed one last time before returning to ordinary black pupils.

Strength receded like a tide, leaving behind a hollowed-out body, with every inch of muscle screaming with exhaustion.

He stood where he was, watching the last red speck of light in his palm extinguish, then turned and walked toward Chu Tianye and the others.

Chu Tianye came up to meet him, not saying a word, just patting Lin Mo's shoulder heavily. That pat made Lin Mo's shoulder sink, but he didn't make a sound.

"Let's go," Chu Tianye's voice was hoarse, "let's go home."

...

Jiangcheng.

Lin Mo stood at the city gate, looking at the devastated city before him.

Half of the city wall had collapsed, and piles of broken bricks and tiles were stacked up like small hills.

The defensive fortifications outside the city had been razed to the ground, with only a few crooked steel beams left stuck in the ground like broken bones.

The air was filled with the smell of burning and blood. When the wind blew, dust danced across the sky, obscuring half of the horizon.

But there were people standing on the city wall. Many, many people.

There were soldiers in military uniforms, students in school uniforms, white-haired elderly people, and women holding children. They stood on the broken city wall, amidst the ruins, under the sunlight.

They were waiting for him.

"He's here! He's here! Lin Mo is back!"

I don't know who shouted first, but then the entire city wall erupted in excitement.

"Lin Mo! It's Lin Mo!"

"The hero is back!"

"Our hero is back!"

The cheers surged over like a tide, wave after wave, shaking the broken bricks on the city wall. Some people waved flags, some clapped until their hands turned red and kept on clapping, some cried, some laughed, and some hugged those beside them, crying and laughing at the same time.

Lin Mo walked on the stone road under the city gate, both sides crowded with people.

Wherever he walked, the crowd automatically cleared a path. No one pushed him, no one touched him; everyone just stood there, watching him with the most fervent gaze.

A gray-haired veteran stood by the roadside, his chest covered in medals. He watched Lin Mo walk over, stood straight as a ramrod, and then slowly raised his right hand, saluting with a standard military salute.

His hand was trembling, but that salute was as steady as a mountain.

Lin Mo paused. He looked at the veteran, nodded slightly, and then continued walking forward.

A five or six-year-old little girl squeezed out of the crowd, holding a bunch of wild flowers in her hands.

The flowers were already wilted from being squeezed, and several petals had fallen off, but she still held them high, standing on her tiptoes, and called out in a milky voice: "Big Brother! For you!"

Lin Mo stopped and looked down at her.

The little girl tilted her face up, her eyes shining like two stars.

He crouched down and took the wilted bunch of wild flowers.

"Thank you."

The little girl smiled, revealing two missing front teeth.

He gripped the wild flowers in his hand and quickened his pace.

...

City Defense Command Headquarters.

When Lin Mo pushed open the door, the voices inside came to an abrupt halt.

Everyone stood up.

"Where is Wang Qiao?" Chu Tianye walked in, his gaze sweeping around the room.

Liu Jianguo's expression sank, and he pointed to the room next door: "In there. Still alive."

Chu Tianye nodded and looked at Lin Mo: "Do you want to go see?"

"No need, just kill him!" he said.

Chu Tianye didn't ask again.

Liu Jianguo sat down opposite them, was silent for a moment, and then spoke: "A million fierce beasts, over ninety percent are dead.

The rest have fled back into the mountains and forests and cannot form a threat for a short time.

Jiangcheng... has been saved."

A messenger rushed in, his face pale, his lips trembling, clutching a telegram in his hand.

"Report!" His voice was so shrill it changed pitch, "Urgent report from Lingwu City!"

Everyone's eyes focused on that telegram.

Chu Tianye took the telegram, unfolded it, glanced at it, and then his expression changed.

"What's wrong?" Lin Mo frowned, took the letter, and read it word by word.

"Lingwu City is in imminent danger. We implore Jiangcheng to send reinforcements immediately. We implore you."

The last two words were written heavily, the pen tip almost piercing through the paper.

A few short words, yet they made Lin Mo's expression change drastically.

It turned out that Cao Shen had used his life as a sacrifice to forcibly open the Martial God Secret Realm. Hundreds of thousands of civilians and garrison troops in the city had been contaminated and transformed into Mimics.

These Mimics had all poured into the secret realm, their numbers unknown, but initially estimated at over three hundred thousand.

The situation inside the secret realm was unknown, but the contamination was still spreading. If not controlled, it would likely affect the entire Southwest region.

The military, War God Temple, Awakener Association, Tianyan Academy, Hunters League, and Qingyun Ancient Martial Arts Sect had urgently dispatched experts to Lingwu City, but the situation far exceeded expectations.

The number of Mimics was too great, and the suppression inside the secret realm was extremely strong. After entering, high-level Awakeners had less than one-tenth of their strength left, and they had yet to break through the entrance.

Multiple Tier 5 experts from the five major forces had already fallen, and countless Tier 6 experts had been injured."

Lin Mo put down the letter and remained silent for a long time.

The room was so quiet that the ticking of the clock on the wall could be heard.

"Three hundred thousand Mimics..." Chu Tianye's voice was dry.

"That madman Cao Shen, what on earth is he trying to do?"

"There is something in the Martial God Secret Realm." Lin Mo's voice was low.

"Cao Shen has been plotting for so long just for that thing."

"We cannot let Cao Shen's conspiracy succeed!"

"To get that thing, this guy didn't hesitate to create a beast tide to attack Jiangcheng. If we let him succeed, the consequences would be unimaginable!"
