194: Working hours are gone

“What about after work then?” Bi Chengwang asked.

The 18th floor was closed; how were they supposed to work?

Didn't he just mention flexible working hours?

Since it was flexible work, they should be able to work whenever they wanted.

So why did they close the door at 6:00 PM?

Qian Ziyong said as if it were obvious, “After work, you naturally go home!”

“You wouldn’t really treat the company as your home, would you?”

“No way? Would anyone really treat the company as their home?”

“However, if you want to fish, you can come to the 16th floor.”

“The 16th and 17th floors close at 11:00 PM, with lights off and power cut, so you must leave.”

Bi Chengwang asked in surprise, “Boss, didn’t you just say flexible working hours?”

“If I accidentally arrived at the company at 12:00 PM, after eating two meals, wouldn’t I be working less than 6 hours?”

From 12 PM to 6 PM, it was only six hours in total. If he ate and rested, he would definitely work less than six hours!

Qian Ziyong was silent for a moment, then muttered to himself, “You have a point.”

He counted on his fingers, “Start work at nine, finish at six, two hours for lunch break, that’s seven hours, one hour more than estimated.”

“No!”

“Finishing at six is too late!”

“Finish at five, close the door at five o’clock!”

“It’s happily decided! The 18th floor closes at 5:00 PM.”

“After work, you can have dinner and then go straight home!”

With that, Qian Ziyong said, “Zhao Caiyi, go change the paper I hung on the 18th floor.”

“Just write that the door closes and lights go off at 5 o’clock. You must leave by 5 o’clock, or you’ll be locked inside!”

Zhao Caiyi’s mouth dropped open, “Ah?”

“Change it to five?”

He was truly surprised.

Why did the working hours get shorter the more they changed them?

“Ah what?” Qian Ziyong asked again, “You don’t have the key to the 18th floor, do you?”

“I don’t have the key to the 18th floor!” Zhao Caiyi nodded, thinking Qian Ziyong was going to give him the key to the 18th floor.

But unexpectedly, Qian Ziyong said, “You all heard it, Zhao Caiyi doesn’t have the key to the 18th floor either.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t have it either.”

“There’s only a fire hammer.”

“If you get locked inside, besides using the fire hammer to get out, you’ll just have to wait until the next day.”

“With no water or electricity, it would be very uncomfortable inside, so absolutely, absolutely do not get locked inside!”

“You all need to be more self-aware!”

The employees exchanged glances.

Qian Ziyong looked at Bi Chengwang and said, “You just said, if you only arrive at the company at 12 o’clock.”

“Then just work until 5 o’clock, and go home after work.”

“Anyway, there’s no time card, what’s the point of staying here?”

The employees were very surprised.

They finally understood.

So this was flexible working hours.

President Qian directly capped the working hours, closing the door and cutting power on time.

And he made the start time flexible.

In other words, the flexibility didn't eliminate break time, but rather eliminated working hours.

It was completely different from what they had imagined.

Didn’t that mean that in the future, if they wanted to work, they would have to rush for it?

Otherwise, there would be no time to work.

Everyone suddenly felt a lot of pressure.

Even going to work required rushing, otherwise there was no time to work. It was truly bizarre.

Qian Ziyong continued, “Second thing!”

“That is, absolutely do not work overtime!”

“I have repeatedly said it!”

“Although there are computers in the game room on the 17th floor, those computers are for you to play on, not for you to work on.”

“I don’t want to see anyone working overtime on those computers outside of working hours!”

“Absolutely, absolutely do not work overtime!”

“Alright, these are the two things. Does anyone have anything to add?” Qian Ziyong asked.

How could anyone dare to add anything?

If they added more, he would deduct their working hours again.

No one dared to raise an objection either.

After all, from the first day of work, Qian Ziyong had told them that overtime was not allowed.

Only six hours of work a day, two days off a week!

Even if they raised an objection, it was impossible for President Qian to change his mind.

Seeing that no one seemed to have anything to add, Qian Ziyong said, “Today was mainly about these two things. Pay attention to them in the future. Meeting adjourned!”

“Boss.” Ju Yewei called out to Qian Ziyong, who was about to leave, “I have a few proposals here that I hope you can review.”

He emphasized, “These are not proposals I worked overtime on before, but ones I researched this morning!”

With that, Ju Yewei brought his laptop in front of Qian Ziyong for him to review.

Watching Ju Yewei demonstrate his game project, Qian Ziyong frowned.

This game was too reliable.

No!

He absolutely could not let Ju Yewei continue like this.

Ju Yewei might actually make money for the company!

But directly refusing would not give him a good enough reason.

He had it!

Qian Ziyong said, “I think we shouldn’t make online games.”

“Why?” Ju Yewei asked, “Online games are the most profitable now. With our company’s size, if we don’t make online games, are we going to make single-player games instead?”

Console games, also known as single-player games, refer to games that players purchase outright.

Single-player games are far less profitable than online games and have a lower ceiling.

Some wildly popular online games can earn tens of billions a year.

However, the ceiling for single-player games is fixed; even if they become wildly popular, they can only earn a few hundred million.

Most importantly, online games can continuously generate revenue, and their efficiency, profit, and popularity can even increase with continued operation.

Typically, single-player games can be made by a team of ten people or fewer.

With two hundred people, this staffing configuration was truly a waste for making single-player games.

“Hmm…” Qian Ziyong’s mind raced, searching for a suitable reason.

He had it!

Qian Ziyong coughed twice and said, “Because of creativity!”

“There are so many online games now, and they all lack creativity!”

“What I need is creativity!”

“And making single-player games can be a practice run. Besides creativity, it can also help you all cooperate more smoothly.”

Ju Yewei asked, “Boss, do you think we’re not familiar with each other, so you want us to work together on a few single-player games first to get to know each other?”

Qian Ziyong nodded, “Exactly!”

“That’s it!”

“Making money is for later. I have plenty of patience. Let’s train ourselves and refine the team first!”

Qian Ziyong wished they would all just play around all day instead of working.

But that wasn’t realistic and would arouse suspicion.

Fortunately, he stopped them in time and had them make single-player games.

This way, even if they successfully made some good games in the end, they wouldn’t earn much money.

Oh, and he could also set some game genres for them, creating many obstacles.

Qian Ziyong asked, “Which type of game is the least popular and has the least buzz right now?”
