106: Chapter 106 Who is the Young Master?
The heavy front of the bentley mulsanne stopped almost flush against that bright yellow porsche.
The massive black grille looked like a maw ready to devour someone, making the previously arrogant little sports car look like a plastic toy. The long line of maybachs behind it blocked the already narrow concrete road so tightly that not even a mouse could squeeze through.
The laughter in the courtyard was cut off as if by a knife, falling silent instantly.
Chen Haoyu's teacup was still suspended in mid-air, his beady eyes bulging as if they might burst from their sockets. His 'luxury car,' his pride and joy, looked as shabby as a scrap collector's cart in front of this long line of black steel.
"Click."
The doors of twenty cars opened simultaneously.
Dozens of bodyguards in black suits stepped out of the cars in unison, their leather shoes hitting the concrete with a dull, powerful thud. They quickly dispersed, forming a security line around the Bentley. Their chilling aura was so intense that the curious villagers at the entrance scrambled back several steps, and even the big yellow dog at the village entrance retreated into its kennel with its tail between its legs, not daring to make a sound.
The driver of the lead car jogged over, his white-gloved hand opening the rear door of the Bentley while his other hand shielded the top of the door frame.
A foot wearing a handmade custom leather shoe stepped onto the dusty ground.
Chen Fan got out of the car, reached out to straighten his wrinkle-free cuffs, and then turned to help Su Wanqing down.
Although the beige trench coat Su Wanqing wore today looked simple, its cut and texture would immediately reveal its immense value to anyone in the know. Standing beside Chen Fan, though she was still a bit nervous, the air of nobility cultivated by wealth was already beginning to take shape.
Immediately after, Chen Muyang and Chen Nianyao stepped out from the maybachs behind.
Chen Muyang stood with one hand in his pocket, his cold face indifferent, and his well-tailored haute couture suit made his figure look as upright as a pine tree. Chen Nianyao, carrying a small Hermès bag, looked around the dilapidated courtyard with curiosity, her eyes as clear as those of an innocent little princess.
The last to get out was Su Guohua.
The old man purposefully adjusted the collar of his Tang suit. He had discarded his thermos, replacing it with a mahogany cane he had found from somewhere. He tapped it on the ground as he walked, exuding an air of great importance.
"Is this... Chen Fan?"
Someone in the crowd muttered.
This single voice was like flipping a switch; the courtyard instantly erupted into a frenzy.
"My god! Is that Chen Fan? Didn't they say he's been delivering food outside these past few years? What food delivery company gives out a rolls-royce?"
"Look at the clothes his wife is wearing. I've seen them on TV; they're worth tens of thousands!"
"This spectacle... it's even bigger than when the County Magistrate visits the countryside! Didn't Chen Haoyu just say they were back to beg for food?"
The chatter swarmed into Chen Haoyu's ears like flies.
Chen Haoyu's face turned the color of pig liver, and the tea in his hand spilled all over his crotch. He stared at Chen Fan's calm face, then at his own porsche blocked in the corner. The immense sense of disparity made him want to go mad.
How is this possible?
How could this pauper have turned his life around?
It must be rented! Yes, definitely rented just to save face! There are plenty of people these days who slap their own faces until they're swollen just to look fat!
Chen Haoyu took a deep breath, slammed his cup onto the table, and forced himself to go forward.
"Oh, isn't this my Younger Male Cousin?" Chen Haoyu shouted sarcastically. "Not bad, I haven't seen you in a few years and you've learned how to rent cars to put on a show? This daily rent must be quite high, right? To show off like this, you must have spent your entire life's savings, haven't you?"
Chen Jianguo also snapped out of it. He quickly scrambled up from his lounge chair, brushed the sunflower seed shells off his clothes, and put on the air of an elder: "Fan Zi, one must be down-to-earth. Bringing all these cars—if you spend all your money on gas, how will you live in the future? Your Eldest Uncle is saying this for your own good."
Chen Fan stopped and couldn't help but laugh as he looked at this father and son desperately trying to save face.
"Eldest Uncle is right to lecture me." Chen Fan pulled a pack of special-issue cigarettes from his pocket. He didn't offer them any, but lit one for himself. "These cars do use a lot of gas. Didn't Haoyu just say we should walk back? I figured if we're walking, we should bring more people so we don't get lost."
"You!" Chen Haoyu was choked up, unable to speak.
At this moment, Su Guohua walked up, leaning on his cane.
He first scanned Chen Haoyu's porsche from top to bottom with an extremely critical gaze, then let out a very loud, cold snort.
"Is this that... what was it... porsche?" Su Guohua tapped the hood of the porsche with his cane, producing a hollow "thud-thud" sound. "Hearing that noise earlier, I thought the village tractor had turned into a spirit. Haoyu, is your exhaust pipe leaking? Tomorrow, have your brother-in-law get you a new one. Driving this piece of junk out makes people think our Chen Family has gone bankrupt."
These were the exact words Chen Haoyu had used to mock them at the airport, and now they were being returned to him verbatim.
The surrounding villagers couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Shaking with rage, Chen Haoyu pointed at Su Guohua: "What do you know, you old geezer! This is a sports car! This is how a sports car sounds! You bunch of hicks..."
"Shut up."
Two words, as cold as ice shards.
Chen Muyang had stood at the very front at some point. He didn't look at Chen Haoyu, but instead beckoned to a nearby bodyguard.
"This yellow thing is in the way." Chen Muyang's tone was flat, as if he were talking about throwing out a bag of trash. "Since it's a so-called sports car, it should be quite sturdy. Move it out of the way; don't let it delay my parents from going inside to eat."
"Yes!"
Four burly men, without a word, walked straight over to the porsche.
"Hey! What are you doing! This is a porsche! If you break it, can you afford to pay for it!" Chen Haoyu panicked and was about to rush forward to stop them.
Chen Muyang gave him a faint glance.
That gaze was too cold, too ruthless, as if he were looking at an ant. Chen Haoyu's feet felt nailed to the ground; he didn't dare move.
The four bodyguards stood at the four corners and exerted their strength with a synchronized shout.
"Heave!"
That porsche, weighing over a ton, was actually lifted up by those four men!
Under the terrified gaze of the entire village, that 'luxury car' was moved like a pile of bricks and dumped right next to the stinking ditch by the roadside, looking as pathetic as could be.
The road was clear.
Chen Fan flicked his cigarette ash and smiled at the dumbfounded Chen Jianguo: "Eldest Uncle, is the food ready? The road isn't blocked anymore. Let's head inside and chat about my two acres of land from these past few years?"
Cold sweat trickled down Chen Jianguo's forehead, past his receding hairline.
He looked at the rows of bodyguards in black suits, then at his son who had been tossed by the ditch. His previous arrogance had long since vanished into thin air.
This wasn't someone coming to beg for food; this was clearly the King of Hell coming to collect a debt!
"It's... it's ready!" Chen Jianguo stammered as he made way at the door, forcing a smile that looked worse than crying. "Fan Zi, please come in! We're all family, no need for formalities! Haoyu! What are you standing there for! Hurry up and pour some tea for your Younger Male Cousin!"
Chen Haoyu stood by his mud-splattered porsche, his fists clenched until his knuckles cracked.
The feeling of being publicly stripped and humiliated made his very insides burn.
Rented! It's definitely rented!
How could someone go from a food delivery guy to this overnight? Chen Fan must have done something shady outside, or he took out a high-interest loan to come back and act tough!
Chen Haoyu gritted his teeth, staring at Chen Muyang's upright back, a trace of venom flashing in his eyes.
Acting like a Young Master, are we?
Fine.
Chen Haoyu took out his phone and sent a message to a few of his fair-weather friends.
[Tonight at Club 27, save the biggest booth for me. I have some poor relatives coming to see the world. Tonight, I'm going to let them know who the real boss is on this turf!]
After sending the message, Chen Haoyu straightened his tie, put on that hypocritical smile again, and followed them into the courtyard.
Just you wait.
In this village, you can rely on strength in numbers, but in high-end venues that care about membership levels and backgrounds, I'll see how you bunch of parvenus keep up the act!
