83: Chapter 83: A "small" boss earning a million a year scared his father-in-law so much he wanted to return the goods.

In the VIP medical examination center's lounge, the air was so quiet that only the faint sound of the humidifier spraying mist could be heard.

Su Guohua sat in the leather massage chair, fidgeting as if there were nails underneath him.

He held the cup of premium Longjing tea, which was said to cost several hundred per tael, not knowing whether to drink it or put it down.

Two young nurses on standby watched him closely. The moment he lifted his hand, they would immediately rush over to ask, "Grandpa, what do you need?" making him afraid to even let out a loud fart.

"Wanqing, turn off that massage function; it's shaking my bones apart."

Su Guohua set his teacup on the coffee table, straightened his face, and beckoned to his daughter, "Come here. While no one is around, give your dad the honest truth."

Su Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. She waved for the nurses to leave first, then shuffled over to sit in front of her father.

"Dad, aren't the medical results all good? What else are you worried about?" Su Wanqing feigned calmness and peeled an orange for her mother.

"What I'm worried about is this place!" Su Guohua pointed to the crystal chandelier overhead and lowered his voice, "That doctor named Zhang Zhongjing just now checked my pulse for half an hour and even asked about me wetting the bed when I was a child.

Before leaving, he insisted on giving me two boxes of century-old wild ginseng, saying I should soak them in water. This whole thing must cost at least a hundred thousand, right?"

Liu Yumei also wiped away tears on the side: "Daughter, we can't go into debt just for the sake of face. Is that man paying for this?"

Su Wanqing took a deep breath, knowing she couldn't avoid this hurdle.

She quickly went over the script Chen Fan had taught her in her mind, then fiercely tore off the terrifying label of "Trillionaire" and replaced it with something more grounded.

"Dad, Mom, listen to me." Su Wanqing held her parents' hands and started making things up without batting an eye, "This person... is indeed pursuing me. His name is... Old Chen."

She didn't dare say his full name, fearing her father would explode on the spot.

"Old Chen?" Su Guohua frowned, "How old is he? What does he do?"

"About the same age as us, though he looks younger." Su Wanqing carefully chose her words, "He is in... import and export trade. Basically, he sells our domestic small commodities to foreigners and makes a profit from the price difference. He's a self-employed individual, his own boss."

"A trader, huh?" Su Guohua understood, his expression softening slightly, "How is the business? How much does he make a year?"

Su Wanqing calculated in her mind. If she said too little, she feared her father would look down on him; if she said too much, she feared she would scare him.

"It's alright." She held up one finger, "When the market is good, he can make about... a million a year."

"A million?!"

Su Guohua and Liu Yumei both gasped, their eyes widening like copper bells.

In their hometown county, earning one hundred thousand a year would be a blessing, but one million was an astronomical figure they didn't even dare to imagine!

"My goodness... this is a big boss!" The orange in Liu Yumei's hand fell to the floor, "One million a year, that means he earns several thousand a day, right? This... this is too good a condition, isn't it?"

Su Guohua's expression, however, sank. He pulled out his dry tobacco pipe, wanting to smoke, but remembered this was a hospital and could only dry-suck on the mouthpiece: "Conditions being too good is also a problem. Wanqing, with him being so rich, would he really take a liking to us, with all our baggage? Muyang and Yaoyao are already so big; can he treat the children sincerely?"

This was what the elderly couple worried about most. In a remarried family, this was the hardest part to deal with.

"Dad, you don't need to worry about that." A genuine smile appeared on Su Wanqing's face, "He... really has nothing to say when it comes to the children. He pays for all of Muyang and Yaoyao's tuition and living expenses now. A couple of days ago, Yaoyao said she wanted to eat seafood, and he drove to the pier in the middle of the night to buy it fresh off the boat. The two children are very close to him and call him Dad behind his back."

Hearing this, Su Guohua's tightly furrowed brows finally relaxed.

"If that's really the case, then this man is at least a real man." Su Guohua nodded, his tone carrying a bit more approval, "Willing to raise someone else's children, broad-minded, he's someone who knows how to live life. He's ten thousand times better than that damn Chen Fan!"

Su Wanqing's heart tightened; she gave a dry laugh and didn't dare to respond.

"Exactly!" Liu Yumei also joined in the scolding, "Back then, that Chen Fan was dirt poor but still managed to whisk you away, and in the end, he left you alone in that dilapidated rental apartment without caring about anything. If I run into him now, I'll definitely spit in his face! This 'Old Chen' is better; he has ability and a good heart."

Listening to her parents praising the current "Old Chen" while cursing the past "Chen Fan," Su Wanqing felt sweat all over her back. If the truth came out when they met later, she didn't dare to imagine the scene.

"Alright, Mom and Dad, since the check-up is done, let's go meet him." Su Wanqing quickly changed the subject, fearing her parents would say something even uglier, "He has tidied up the house and cooked a meal waiting for us."

"Go to his house?" Su Guohua tugged at the hem of his clothes, feeling somewhat awkward, "Then I need to change my clothes. These cloth shoes have worn edges; it'll be a joke if he sees them."

"It's not a joke. He's an easygoing person and likes honest people like us the most."

Su Wanqing cajoled and deceived them, finally managing to get her parents into the Buick business van.

To avoid being exposed, she specifically had Tian Shu hide the maybach and switched to this car that looked "slightly more ordinary."

The car drove out of the hospital and headed north.

Su Guohua leaned against the window, looking out at the bustling streets of Yunzhou, sighing in his heart that big cities were just different.

"Daughter, where does this 'Old Chen' live?" Liu Yumei asked, "Earning a million a year, his house must be quite big, right? Must be a hundred square meters?"

"Um... something like that." Su Wanqing was vague. The bathroom at Longwan No. 1 might even be a hundred square meters.

"That's good, spacious." Liu Yumei nodded with satisfaction, "If you two get together later, you can bring your dad and me over to watch the door for you."

The car drove for half an hour, and the surrounding scenery changed.

The high-rise buildings disappeared, replaced by stretches of green belts and lush French plane trees. The cars on the road also decreased, and occasionally one would pass by, all of them being those sports cars that hugged the ground.

"Why... why is it getting more and more remote?" Su Guohua was a bit puzzled, "Aren't we going into the city? Why are we driving into the mountains?"

"He... he likes quiet, so he lives a bit remotely." Su Wanqing's palms began to sweat.

As soon as she finished speaking, the car rounded a bend.

A huge European-style carved iron gate appeared at the end of her vision.

The iron gate was fully five meters high, its golden paint shimmering in the sunlight. Two stone lions stood majestically at the entrance, and two rows of uniformed security personnel stood guard straight, holding two sleek, shiny black German Shepherds.

Through the gaps in the iron gate, one could see rolling lawns, a huge fountain, and those white buildings that looked like castles.

Su Guohua's eyeballs nearly popped out.

He pointed at the big iron gate, his hand trembling like he had Parkinson's: "Daughter... is... is this a park?"

"No... it's not." Su Wanqing said, biting the bullet.

"Then is it a government building?" Liu Yumei was also stunned.

The car slowly decelerated and stopped in front of the gate.

The two rows of security guards gave a sharp salute, and the big iron gate rumbled open to both sides.

Su Wanqing swallowed her saliva, turned to look at her completely petrified parents, and said in a voice smaller than a mosquito: "Dad, Mom... we're home."

Su Guohua turned his head sharply, staring fixedly at Su Wanqing, his expression more vivid than if he had seen a ghost.

"Wanqing! Tell your dad the truth!" Su Guohua's voice cracked, "Is this the damn place where that small boss earning a million a year lives? This gate alone could buy our whole village! Have you been kept by someone?!"

The car drove into the manor driveway.

Not far away, at the entrance of the main villa, Chen Fan was wearing an apron, holding a spatula, and standing there happily looking out.

And behind him, although the phalanx of over four hundred servants had been ordered by Su Wanqing to disperse, dozens of core housekeepers remained, lining up respectfully to wait.

Su Wanqing closed her eyes in despair.

It's over.

The persona of this "small boss" had collapsed before they even got out of the car.

And what was even more deadly was that Chen Fan, that reckless guy, saw the car coming and actually excitedly rushed over with his spatula, shouting as he ran:

"Dad! Mom! You've finally arrived! I've missed you to death!"

Su Guohua looked at the man rushing over with a spatula; that face, even if it turned to ashes, he would still recognize it.

Nineteen years ago, it was this very face that swindled away his most cherished daughter.

Su Guohua's complexion instantly turned livid. He searched around inside the car, finally grabbing the snake-skin bag full of medical records at his feet, and roared through gritted teeth:

"Chen Fan! If I don't break your legs, I won't be surnamed Su!"
