141: Chapter 141 Huaying Media's "Feast at Hongmen"
In the study of the courtyard house, the night was thick.
Chen Fan sat behind a mahogany desk, with a financial audit report of Huaying Media spread out before him. Among the dense rows of numbers, every suspicious account was circled in red pen.
"Dad, you're really letting me go alone?" Chen Muyang stood before the desk, holding a gold-embossed invitation in his hand.
The invitation read: The Board of Directors of Huaying Media cordially invites a representative from Huihuang Group to the Jinghua Hotel tomorrow at 7:00 PM to discuss cooperation matters.
"Chen Tianba is trying to make one last struggle." Chen Fan closed the report and looked up at his son. "He will bring up his background with Beijing Chen Family, he will threaten, and he will promise benefits. How will you respond?"
Chen Muyang adjusted his glasses. "I'll let the facts speak."
"What facts?"
"Huaying Media has accumulated 230 million in tax evasion over three years, and the amount involved in false invoices is 470 million. This evidence is enough to keep Chen Tianba inside for ten years." Chen Muyang's voice was very calm. "His only way out now is to cooperate with us to complete the bankruptcy reorganization."
Chen Fan nodded, took a black file bag out of the drawer, and pushed it over.
"Inside is a joint investigation order from the Tax Bureau and the Economic Investigation Department, which will be delivered to Huaying's headquarters tomorrow morning." Chen Fan stood up and walked to the window. "But I will have them delay the execution until 8:00 PM."
"Giving Chen Tianba the last two hours to make a choice?"
"No." Chen Fan turned around. "It's to give you two hours to show the people in the beijing elite circle whether the heir of the Chen family is qualified to establish himself in the Imperial Capital."
Chen Muyang gripped the file bag, feeling the weight in his father's words.
This was not a simple business negotiation, but a public display of strength.
...
The following evening, at the top floor of the Jinghua Hotel.
The revolving restaurant of this five-star hotel overlooked the entire Imperial Capital CBD, with the lights of thousands of homes visible outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Chen Muyang, wearing a well-tailored deep blue suit, walked into the private room alone.
Seven or eight people were already sitting in the room.
Chen Tianba sat in the main seat, his hair graying at the temples and his eyes deep-set. The turmoil of the past few days had aged him ten years. Sitting to his left and right were several middle-aged men in suits, all shareholders and senior executives of Huaying.
"Young Master Chen is here." Chen Tianba stood up, a smile forced onto his face. "Please, have a seat."
Chen Muyang skipped the pleasantries and sat directly opposite Chen Tianba.
The waiter brought the menu. Chen Muyang casually flipped through a couple of pages and ordered a medium-well sirloin steak and a glass of lemonade.
"For Young Master Chen to represent the Huihuang Group at such an occasion at such a young age, the younger generation is truly formidable." A balding man sitting to Chen Tianba's right spoke up. His name was Sun Jianguo, the second-largest shareholder of Huaying. "I wonder why President Chen didn't come today?"
"My dad said it's bad luck to eat with the dead." Chen Muyang cut into the steak that had just been served, the knife and fork making a slight scraping sound on the porcelain plate.
The air in the private room instantly froze.
"What do you mean by that, Young Master Chen?" Sun Jianguo's face darkened.
"Literally." Chen Muyang forked a piece of beef into his mouth and chewed slowly. "Huaying Media's death notice will be delivered tomorrow morning. Tonight's meal can be considered an early last meal before execution."
Chen Tianba slammed the table and stood up. "Chen Muyang! Don't go too far!"
"Too far?" Chen Muyang put down his knife and fork, pulled the black file bag from his inner suit pocket, took out several A4 sheets, and threw them on the table. "12 million in false invoices in 2019, 87 million in tax evasion in 2020, 2021... shall I continue reading?"
Several shareholders leaned in to look at the documents, their expressions becoming increasingly grim.
The papers contained not only detailed account breakdowns but also screenshots of bank statements and recorded testimonies from relevant personnel.
"How did you get these things?" Sun Jianguo's voice was trembling.
"The efficiency of the Huihuang Group's Legal Department is higher than you imagine." Chen Muyang picked up his knife and fork again. "Now there are only two paths before you: first, cooperate with the bankruptcy reorganization and retain some equity and management positions; second, wait for the Tax Bureau and Economic Investigation to show up tomorrow, and then stay in prison until retirement."
Chen Tianba slumped back into his chair, looking as if all his strength had been drained.
He knew he had lost, completely and utterly.
"I choose the first option." Chen Tianba's voice was hoarse. "But I have one condition."
"Speak."
"Give me three days to handle my private affairs. After three days, I will proactively cooperate with all processes."
Chen Muyang looked at him, silent for a few seconds.
"Fine. But you must first sign a letter of commitment, guaranteeing that you will not transfer any assets or contact any media within these three days."
Chen Tianba nodded, like a trapped beast accepting its fate.
The other shareholders in the room also expressed their willingness to cooperate with the reorganization.
Chen Muyang packed up the documents and prepared to stand up and leave.
Just then, the door to the private room was pushed open from the outside.
A young man wearing a white casual suit walked in. He had a meticulously styled slicked-back hairstyle and wore a Richard Mille worth millions on his wrist.
"Uncle Chen, I heard someone is bullying you?" The young man walked over to Chen Tianba, patted his shoulder, and then turned to look at Chen Muyang with eyes full of contempt. "Is it this kid whose hair hasn't even grown in yet?"
Seeing the newcomer, a glimmer of hope flashed in Chen Tianba's eyes. "Zihao, why are you here?"
"My dad heard something happened to Huaying and told me to come check it out." Chen Zihao pulled out a chair and sat down, crossing his legs. "Uncle Chen, you really are something, being bullied like this by an upstart from out of town. Why didn't you tell us, Beijing Chen Family, sooner?"
Chen Muyang looked at the young man who had suddenly appeared, quickly retrieving information in his mind.
Chen Zihao, the third young master of the direct line of Beijing Chen Family, twenty-three years old this year. He has three investment companies under his name and is considered a somewhat capable character among the playboys of the beijing elite circle.
"So you're that Chen Fan's son from Huihuang Group?" Chen Zihao sized up Chen Muyang. "I heard your dad used to be surnamed Chen too, and even stayed in the Imperial Capital?"
"That was many years ago," Chen Muyang said faintly.
"Many years ago?" Chen Zihao sneered. "I've checked your dad's background. Back then, he was just a poor kid who made a fortune relying on some unknown stroke of luck. Now he thinks he can come back to the Imperial Capital and run wild just because he has some stinking money?"
He stood up, walked over to Chen Muyang, and looked down at him.
"Kid, I don't care how awesome you were in a small place like Yunzhou, but this is the Imperial Capital, the territory of our Chen Family of the Capital. The matter with Huaying Media ends here."
Chen Muyang looked up and stared at Chen Zihao through his lenses.
"Ends here?" Chen Muyang's voice was very soft, yet it carried a chill. "Who do you think you are?"
Chen Zihao's expression changed, and he raised his hand to grab Chen Muyang's collar.
Chen Muyang didn't dodge; he simply took out his phone, clicked on a news notification he had just received, and aimed the screen at Chen Zihao.
The news headline was: **Huaying Media officially announces bankruptcy reorganization, Huihuang Group to acquire 100% ownership.**
Published time: 18:47.
Just three minutes ago.
"You..." Chen Zihao's hand froze in mid-air.
"Tomorrow morning at nine, I'll be waiting for you at the entrance of Imperial Capital University." Chen Muyang put away his phone, stood up from his seat, and straightened his suit. "When the time comes, we'll have a good talk about who the real master of this Imperial Capital is."
He walked to the door and looked back at Chen Zihao's ashen face.
"By the way, remember to drive that Bugatti of yours. I want to see how big of a show the princes of the beijing circle can really put on."
