95: Chapter 95 The Jealousy Jar Overturned
In the corridor of Yunding Clubhouse, paved with handmade Persian carpets, echoed the indignant accusations of Chen Nianyao.
"Chen Muyang! You're feeling guilty! You must be keeping a vixen outside who's even younger than me!"
Chen Nianyao gripped Chen Muyang's arm tightly, dragging herself along the floor like a human pendant, her two feet kicking wildly. "I knew it! Men turn bad once they get rich! Our family has only been wealthy for a few days, and you're already starting to play these games! I'm going to tell Mom! I'm going to tell Grandfather! I'll make them break your legs!"
The passing waiters looked on with indifference, wishing they could bury their heads in their trays and pretend they hadn't heard anything. This was their young master, after all; watching the drama would cost them their jobs.
Chen Muyang only felt his head buzzing, more exhausted than after three consecutive multinational meetings. He shoved one hand into his pocket, and with the other, he hauled his sister—who was clinging to him like a koala—into the private elevator.
"Let go." Chen Muyang pressed the button for the second basement level, his voice cold. "This suit fabric is delicate; you can't afford to pay for the wrinkles."
"I won't let go!" Chen Nianyao became even more agitated, her eyes turning red. "You only care about your suit! Back then, when I ironed a hole in that two-hundred-yuan school uniform of yours, you said it was fine! Now you're yelling at me for some wild woman! And you want me to pay? My heart is broken; can you afford to pay for that?"
The elevator doors closed, and the cramped space was filled with Chen Nianyao's resentment.
She sniffled, let go, and retreated to the corner of the elevator, staring at her own brother with the eyes of a woman scorned: "Speak! Who is that woman? How old is she? Which school is she from? Is she thinner than me? Is she prettier than me?"
Chen Muyang rubbed his throbbing temples, leaning against the elevator wall, and sighed helplessly.
"There is no one. She's just a... student who needs help."
"Don't lie to me!" Chen Nianyao spat. "If she needed help, couldn't you just give her money directly? Money is the one thing our family has the most of! You went to pick out clothes yourself? You even pushed back Saturday's meeting? Chen Muyang, you're about to be love-struck!"
"She's different." Chen Muyang recalled the image of Lin Wanqiu's hands picking up flyers in the cold wind, his tone softening slightly. "She's very stubborn. If I give her money directly, she'll think it's charity and throw it back in my face. Sending these clothes... it's considered a work uniform, to let her be my Tutor with some dignity."
"Huh? Tutor?" Chen Nianyao's eyes widened, her expression one of utter disbelief. "You, a CEO managing tens of billions in business, are hiring an undergraduate who hasn't even graduated yet to be a Tutor? Brother, that's such a lame excuse! You're just lusting after her!"
Chen Muyang's face darkened, and he raised his hand to flick her forehead. "What nonsense are you spouting! Have all the etiquette lessons Dad taught you gone to the dogs?"
"I'm not being reasonable!" Chen Nianyao turned her head, hugging her arms indignantly. "Anyway, I don't care! You've never picked out clothes for me personally! You haven't even gone shopping with me! Now you're giving your first time to an outsider! I'm very angry, the kind that can't be coaxed!"
Looking at his sister's stubborn appearance, Chen Muyang knew that reasoning was useless.
In this family, only magic could defeat magic. And only the power of money could defeat unreasonable behavior.
Chen Muyang took out his phone, his fingers swiping rapidly across the screen before he shoved it in front of Chen Nianyao.
"Look at this."
Chen Nianyao, who was still rolling her eyes, caught a glimpse of the screen, and her gaze was instantly glued to it.
It was a catalog for a Sotheby's spring auction. In the center of the photo lay a necklace so beautiful it was breathtaking. The main stone was a 5-carat pink diamond, surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds, like a cherry blossom cradled in the palm of starlight.
Even through the screen, its brilliant radiance almost blinded Chen Nianyao.
"This... is this..." Chen Nianyao swallowed, her previous momentum instantly deflated by half.
"'Sakura's Tear,' starting bid 18 million, estimated final price around 40 million." Chen Muyang took back his phone, casually adjusting his cuffs. "I saw you liking this picture on your Moments last time?"
Chen Nianyao's heart thumped wildly against her will.
She had liked it, but that was just the worship of a poor student for top-tier luxury! Who could have imagined this thing would actually appear in her own home?
"Brother..." Chen Nianyao's voice became sweet and syrupy, her previous shrewish demeanor vanished, and she tentatively reached out to help Chen Muyang straighten his wrinkled suit collar. "This 18 million... isn't it too extravagant?"
"Extravagant?" Chen Muyang glanced at her. "Forget it then. Since you're still angry, I might as well save this money and buy clothes for that 'wild woman'."
"Don't, don't, don't!" Chen Nianyao panicked, grabbing Chen Muyang's arm and rubbing her face against it. "Brother! My dear brother! I'm not angry! What I just said was... that was just me worrying about you being cheated by a bad woman! Since she's going to be your Tutor, she definitely needs to dress decently! Buy it! Buy a few more sets! If that's not enough, I'll sponsor two more sets!"
Watching his sister, whose face changed faster than flipping a book, the corners of Chen Muyang's mouth finally couldn't help but curl up slightly.
"So, are you still going to tell on me?"
"Tell on you? Whoever tells on you is a puppy!" Chen Nianyao patted her chest with a resounding thud. "My brother is doing charity, he's going to alleviate poverty! What noble character! I support you, it's too late to even start!"
"Alright." Chen Muyang pulled his arm away as the elevator reached the second basement level. "I've already had someone bid on the necklace; it will be delivered to your dorm in a couple of days. Remember, in this family, no matter how many 'Tutors' I have in the future, you will always be the one with the highest budget."
This sentence was more effective than any sweet talk.
Chen Nianyao was so happy her back teeth were almost falling out from smiling, and she followed him closely: "Brother, walk slowly! Brother, stay safe! Brother, actually, I'm not in a huge rush, but if that necklace could come with a matching bracelet, that would be even better..."
Saturday, overcast.
The weather in Yunzhou was like a moody child; the morning was clear and sunny, but by the afternoon, it had turned gloomy, with thick, heavy clouds pressing down overhead as if they might collapse at any moment.
A black Mercedes-Benz business van drove silently into the pothole-ridden road of the urban village.
Old Zhang gripped the steering wheel steadily, trying to avoid the puddles, fearing he might jolt the exquisite gift boxes placed in the back seat.
"Young Master, the car can't go any further ahead." Old Zhang stopped the car and pointed to a narrow alleyway ahead that could only accommodate two people walking side-by-side. "The navigation shows that Miss Lin lives in the tenement building at the very end of the alley."
Chen Muyang looked out through the dark car window.
This place was practically a different world from Yunding Clubhouse. Everywhere there were illegally built wires and peeling walls, revealing the dark, dingy bricks inside. The air was filled with a musty smell and the odor of low-quality coal smoke. By the side of the road, several shirtless tattooed men were squatting, drinking white liquor with peanuts, their fierce eyes sizing up the luxury car that felt so out of place.
"Wait for me in the car."
Chen Muyang pushed open the car door, carrying the bags printed with a certain luxury brand logo, and stepped out with his long legs, landing on the dirty concrete ground.
Even in a place like this, the air of nobility about him could not be hidden. The wine glasses in the hands of the tattooed men paused, and they stared straight at him, as if they had seen a lion intruding into a wolf pack.
Chen Muyang did not look sideways, following the address to the end of the alley.
It was an old red-brick building, without even a unit door, and the stairwell was pitch black.
He had just reached the third floor when he heard a burst of intense arguing and the dull thud of heavy objects hitting the floor coming from the end of the corridor.
"No money? If you have no money, why go to college!" A sharp female voice exploded in the stairwell, like fingernails scratching a chalkboard. "Lin Wanqiu, I'm telling you! If you can't come up with three thousand yuan for your brother's tutoring fees today, don't think about leaving this door!"
"Mom! That's my scholarship! That's my living expenses for next semester!"
Lin Wanqiu's voice carried a sob, yet she was as stubborn as a rock. "My brother is only in middle school; what kind of tutoring costs three thousand? Are you trying to drain my blood dry?"
"I am your mother! I gave you your life! So what if I drain you?"
Immediately following was the crisp sound of a slap.
"Slap!"
Chen Muyang stood in the dim stairwell, his footsteps coming to an abrupt halt. His fingers gripping the gift bags tightened instantly, his knuckles turning white from the force, and in those eyes that were originally calm, a surge of unprecedented violence suddenly welled up.
The rich young master hadn't even delivered his clothes yet, and he had already stumbled upon someone daring to touch his person?
