34: Chapter 34 Su Muyang: I'll call you sis!
The next morning, at the Work-Study Office of Jiang University Library.
Su Nianyao looked at the part-time job registration form in her hand; the smell of ink hadn't even fully faded. Six hundred yuan a month—previously, that was two months' living expenses for her, and she had to spend it sparingly to get by.
"Nianyao, are you really not going?" Bai Xue stood nearby, clutching her backpack straps with both hands, her eyes fixed on the form, full of hope.
She knew Bai Xue's family situation was even harder. Last time the dorm's water was cut off, this girl couldn't even bring herself to buy a large bottle of mineral water from the supermarket to wash her face.
"I'm not going. My family won't let me; they said I should rest more." Su Nianyao stuffed the form into Bai Xue's hand and whispered, "Go sign it quickly. I worked hard to snag this spot."
Bai Xue's eyes turned red as she grabbed Su Nianyao's hand. "Thank you, Nianyao. Once I get paid, I'll treat you to a chicken leg from the cafeteria."
Su Nianyao felt a pang in her heart; the black gold card in her pocket with a ten-billion balance felt like it was digging into her skin. She really wanted to say 'I'll give you all the chicken legs you want,' but she was afraid of scaring her friend.
As she walked out of the library, the class monitor, Zhou Kai, blocked the path at the intersection.
Zhou Kai was wearing a full set of designer sportswear, his hair slicked back. He kept staring at Su Nianyao, thinking the Department Flower had become even prettier lately. Her skin was translucent white, and even her aura had become much more noble.
"Nianyao, finished with your work? Lunch is on me; let's go to that new Western restaurant at the school entrance." Zhou Kai showed off the car keys in his hand—it was a Volkswagen Sagitar. "By the way, let's discuss the department's outing."
In the past, Su Nianyao always found excuses to refuse because she couldn't afford to return the favor.
But this time, Su Nianyao thought about it and nodded. "Sure, let's go then."
At the restaurant, Zhou Kai ordered several signature dishes and talked animatedly about how extensive his father's connections were at the bureau and how he could help arrange a job for Su Nianyao in the future.
Su Nianyao didn't really listen. She looked at the prices on the menu—dishes costing dozens or hundreds of yuan. She used to think they were expensive, but now they looked like spirit money.
When it was time to pay, Zhou Kai was about to take out his phone to scan the code, but Su Nianyao beat him to it, placing that heavy black gold card on the checkout counter.
"Swipe mine. This meal is on me, as a thank you for your help, Monitor."
The cashier took the card, hands trembling slightly. Having worked in such a high-end restaurant for a long time, he recognized this thing. A black gold card with no limit—hardly anyone in all of Jiangcheng had one.
"Miss, the total is eight hundred and sixty yuan. Please sign here." The cashier's attitude was as respectful as if he were meeting his own mother.
Zhou Kai stood by, dumbfounded. He stared at the metal card engraved with Su Nianyao's name, his mouth hanging open for a long time.
"Nianyao... this card..."
"Pocket money from home." Su Nianyao took the card back and gave a polite smile. "Monitor, I have things to do this afternoon, so I'll be going first. You can decide on the outing."
Watching Su Nianyao's departing figure, Zhou Kai felt the Sagitar keys in his hand were a bit prickly. This wasn't just a Department Flower; this was clearly a hidden little ancestor.
...
7:00 PM, an upscale community in Jiangcheng, Qin Mansion.
Su Muyang sat in the study, looking at Qin Ya, who was biting her pen and rolling her eyes across from him.
Qin Ya was the eldest daughter of the Qin Family. She was quite pretty, but she had a bad temper, and her math grades were a total mess.
"Teacher Su, I really don't know how to do this problem." Qin Ya threw her pen down and leaned back. "Can't you just tell me the answer? My mom insists I rank in the top three; she's trying to drive me to my death."
Su Muyang sighed helplessly. "Miss Qin, this is the last big problem. If you learn it, you'll definitely make the top three this time."
"Fine, fine, for the sake of your good looks." Qin Ya leaned in, staring at Su Muyang's face. "Hey, I heard your family is pretty poor? How about you stop being a Tutor and be my follower instead? I'll give you five thousand a month."
Su Muyang sneered inwardly. Five thousand? Is that even enough to buy one of your bags?
"Miss Qin, please behave yourself." Su Muyang pointed at the book. "Continue."
The two hours of torture finally ended. Miraculously, Qin Ya got most of it right and hopped around in joy. "Teacher Su, you're amazing! If I do well tomorrow, I'll take you to the amusement park. No refusing!"
Su Muyang was about to say no when his phone vibrated.
It was Su Nianyao.
"Brother, are you finished with class? I'm at the entrance of the community where you're tutoring."
"What are you doing there? That place is ten kilometers from the school." Su Muyang frowned. "Hurry up and take the bus back. Don't wander around here."
"I came to pick you up." Su Nianyao whispered, "I came by car; it's very spacious."
Su Muyang laughed, thinking Su Nianyao meant a Didi carpool.
"Forget it. Save some money to buy yourself some decent clothes. What are you picking me up with? A shared bike?"
"Brother, let's make a bet." Su Nianyao sounded indignant on the other end. "If I really show up in a luxury car to pick you up, you have to call me 'Big Sister' from now on and listen to everything I say. Deal?"
Su Muyang thought the girl had gone crazy for money.
"Fine! If you really show up in a luxury car, I won't just call you Big Sister; I'll walk the other way whenever I see you!"
"You said it! No backing out!"
Hanging up, Su Muyang packed his teaching materials and said to Qin Ya, "My sister is here to pick me up. I'm leaving."
Qin Ya followed him out of curiosity. "Your sister? I haven't met your family yet. Let's go, I want to see too."
Just as the two reached the community entrance, they saw a massive object parked under the streetlights from a distance.
The car was a shiny black, gleaming coldly under the streetlights. The huge intake grille looked like a beast's maw, and the Spirit of Ecstasy statue on the hood was particularly eye-catching in the night.
Qin Ya was stunned, her pace slowing down.
"Is that... a rolls-royce phantom?"
Su Muyang also stopped. Although he hadn't seen the actual car in person, he had seen it online. This car's starting price was nearly ten million. Its appearance in a place like this usually meant it was picking up some top-tier mogul.
"Some big boss must have returned." Su Muyang tugged his backpack strap and looked around. "Where's Nianyao? Where did that girl go?"
Just then, the rolls-royce's rear window slowly rolled down.
Su Nianyao's delicate face appeared. She was holding her old phone with the cracked screen and waved at Su Muyang.
"Brother! Over here!"
Su Muyang's foot slipped, and he almost fell to his knees.
He stared at the car, then at Su Nianyao, his mind a complete jumble.
A Phantom? Su Nianyao was sitting in a ten-million-level rolls-royce to pick him up from work?
The car door was opened from the outside by a woman in a black tight-fitting outfit. The woman bowed slightly to Su Nianyao, then turned around and looked at Su Muyang with a cold gaze.
"Brother, why are you just standing there? Get in." Su Nianyao had a playful look on her face and even patted the leather seat beside her. "Don't forget what you promised me just now."
Su Muyang swallowed hard, feeling like the world's streetlights were spinning.
Qin Ya was completely dumbstruck. She looked at Su Muyang's shabby white shirt and then at the luxury car that was more expensive than her family's house. Her mouth hung open wide enough to fit a duck egg.
This... this isn't how the script is supposed to go, right?
