208: Chapter 208 Touching the Reverse Scale
Late night. Longwan No. 1 villa.
The night wind rustled the leaves.
Li Weidong parked the car at an intersection two kilometers away from the villa. He walked through the shadows of the trees.
His palms were sweating, and his legs felt weak.
The villa's perimeter security was usually extremely tight. But today, Li Weidong found the side door on the west side left slightly ajar.
He knew very well that this was an internal passage reserved for executives, which usually required a password and retina verification. Now, the access control had actually failed.
He didn't think much of it, just assuming it was good luck.
The inside of the villa was very quiet.
Li Weidong moved stealthily through the hallway. He had eaten at this villa before and was familiar with the layout.
The nursery was on the second floor. The first floor was a spacious open kitchen.
Three cans of imported milk powder sat on the kitchen counter. A constant-temperature kettle nearby was ready with warm water.
Li Weidong walked up to the counter.
He pulled a transparent glass bottle from his inner pocket.
His hands were trembling violently. He couldn't get the bottle cap open no matter how he tried.
Su Wanqing's soft humming could be heard faintly from upstairs. She was coaxing the child to sleep.
Li Weidong bit his lip, forcing himself to stay calm. He twisted the cap open with force.
He aimed it at one of the open milk powder cans.
Just one drop. His wife and child in Macau would survive.
"Old Li."
A steady voice rang out from behind him.
Li Weidong's wrist went weak, and the glass bottle slipped from his hand.
A hand wearing a black tactical glove caught the glass bottle firmly in mid-air.
Snap.
All the lights in the entire first-floor hall turned on.
Li Weidong's legs gave out, and he collapsed directly onto the wooden floor.
Chen Fan was sitting at the mahogany dining table in the dining room.
A cup of cold tea sat on the table.
Chen Haoyu and two Shadow Guard members stood behind Chen Fan. The one who had caught the medicine bottle was Shadow One.
Shadow One placed the transparent bottle into an evidence bag and handed it to the accompanying military doctor nearby.
The military doctor took out a test strip and dripped some of the liquid onto it.
The test strip turned deep purple after ten seconds.
The military doctor looked up to report: "Boss, it's a neuro-inhibitory toxin mixture. It would cause severe diarrhea in an infant, central nervous system damage, and lifelong intellectual disability."
Chen Fan leaned back in his chair.
He didn't say a word.
This was more poisonous than a direct assassination.
Li Weidong lay prostrate on the floor, his pants soaked through. He kowtowed desperately.
"Mr. Chen! I was wrong! I'm not human!" Li Weidong's forehead slammed against the floor, leaving a bloody mark. "I lost eight billion gambling in Macau! They kidnapped my wife and child and forced me to do this!"
Chen Fan picked up the cup of cold tea and poured it into a nearby potted plant.
"Eight billion. You certainly have quite an appetite." Chen Fan set the teacup down.
"I didn't want to hurt the child! I really didn't!" Li Weidong's snot and tears mixed together. "Mr. Chen, for the sake of when I lent you money to pay rent back then, please spare my life!"
Chen Fan stood up.
He walked over to Li Weidong.
He looked down at this veteran who had once shared joys and sorrows with him.
"Back then, you lent me two thousand yuan," Chen Fan said. "In the past two years, I've given you a billion in stock dividends, three villas in the Imperial Capital, and two Bentleys."
Li Weidong was speechless and could only kowtow desperately.
"The debt of two thousand yuan was paid off long ago." Chen Fan raised his foot and kicked away Li Weidong's hand as he tried to grab his leg. "If you touch my money, I can leave your body intact. But you touch my child."
Chen Fan turned to look at Chen Haoyu.
"Reclaim all of his shares. As for Macau, send people to bring his family back. As for him..." Chen Fan paused.
Chen Haoyu understood immediately.
"Throw him into the high seas," Chen Fan said.
Li Weidong's face turned ashen. He couldn't even utter a word of plea anymore.
Two Shadow Guard members stepped forward and grabbed Li Weidong by the arms.
"Mr. Chen! I'll talk! I'll tell you everything I know!" Li Weidong struggled frantically, trying to grab onto a final lifeline. "The people who found me have a huge background! They're a specialized transnational commercial espionage organization! They're called Shadow! They have all the security vulnerability data of our Pangu Biology!"
Chen Fan raised his hand to signal.
The Shadow Guard stopped their movements.
"Shadow?" Chen Fan repeated the name.
"Yes! Their headquarters is in Southeast Asia! As long as you pay, they'll take any dirty job!" Li Weidong confessed everything clearly. "They washed the money from your account tonight specifically to cut off Pangu Biology's research and development funds!"
Faint footsteps came from the stairs.
Su Wanqing walked downstairs wearing slippers.
She saw Li Weidong kneeling in the living room along with several black-clad bodyguards and stopped in her tracks.
"Old Li?" Su Wanqing walked over. "What happened?"
The Shadow Guard members tacitly turned their bodies, blocking the blood on Li Weidong's forehead and the water stains on the floor.
Chen Fan stepped forward and took Su Wanqing's hand.
"There's a small problem with the company accounts, so Old Li came over to apologize and seek punishment." Chen Fan's tone was gentle, just as it usually was at home.
"It's the middle of the night, and the baby just fell asleep." Su Wanqing let out a yawn. "Go to the study to talk; don't make a noise in the living room."
"Alright. Go back up and rest first." Chen Fan patted the back of her hand.
Su Wanqing turned and went back to the second floor.
Only when the sound of the second-floor door closing was heard...
Chen Fan turned back around.
The gentleness on his face vanished completely.
"Take him away," Chen Fan gave the final command.
Li Weidong was dragged out. His mouth was sealed with tape, and he didn't make a sound.
Silence returned to the living room.
Chen Haoyu walked over with a tablet computer.
"Boss, the Shadow organization Li Weidong mentioned has been found in the database." Chen Haoyu swiped the screen quickly. "This is an underground armed espionage network active in Southeast Asia. They specialize in blackmailing and assassinating multinational corporations. Their methods are cruel, and no one dares to provoke them."
Chen Fan pulled out a chair and sat down again.
"No one dares to provoke them?" Chen Fan took the tablet. "That's because they haven't provoked the right person."
Chen Fan awakened the system in his mind.
Locate the coordinates of the Shadow organization's Southeast Asian headquarters.
A set of precise latitude and longitude data quickly jumped onto the screen.
Chen Fan tossed the tablet on the table.
"Find out how many people they have," Chen Fan said.
Chen Haoyu glanced at the data: "Core members plus armed mercenaries, about three hundred people. They are well-equipped."
"Three hundred people." Chen Fan leaned back in his chair.
Chen Haoyu clenched his fist and requested to go: "Boss, I'll take the first battalion of the Shadow Guard. I'll uproot them within three days."
Chen Fan looked at the night sky outside the window.
"There's no need for us to do it ourselves," Chen Fan said.
Chen Haoyu didn't understand: "Not doing it?"
"Transfer a billion US dollars from the account." Chen Fan stood up. "Spend this money to find some professionals to play with them. Guess what the International Joint Counter-Terrorism Forces will do when they get a billion dollars and Shadow's coordinates?"
