35: Chapter 35 I'll Pick You Up in a Phantom

The streetlights at the entrance of the Qin Mansion were a bit dim, casting a long shadow of that black beast.

The iconic coach doors of the rolls-royce popped open slowly and silently. Cold Moon stepped out in black tactical boots, radiating a chill even colder than the car's air conditioning.

She walked around the front of the car, stood before Su Muyang, bowed slightly, and said coldly, "Young Master, please get in."

Su Muyang's feet felt like they were glued to the spot.

He looked at this luxury car, which could buy ten of the Qin Mansion's bathrooms, then at the indifferent female bodyguard, and finally at his younger sister inside the car, who was smiling like a little fox.

Had the world gone mad? Or was he dreaming?

"Oh my, whose car is this? Parking here and blocking the way—"

The gate of the Qin Mansion opened again, and a middle-aged noblewoman wearing silk pajamas and hair rollers walked out. She was Qin Ya's mother, Liu Qing, who usually looked down on everyone and despised a poor Tutor like Su Muyang the most.

Halfway through her sentence, Liu Qing's pale-painted face froze.

She stared at the golden "Spirit of Ecstasy" on the hood, her eyes nearly popping out of her head.

A Phantom.

An extended wheelbase version, no less.

In the entire Jiangcheng, the number of people who could afford this car could be counted on two hands.

"Mom! Look!" Qin Ya grabbed Liu Qing's arm and pointed at Su Muyang, her voice full of existential doubt. "That's Teacher Su's sister! She's here to pick him up!"

Liu Qing's mouth hung open, but no sound came out.

Just moments ago, she had intended to come out and lecture this poor student, telling him not to aim for things out of his league and to stay away from her daughter. Instead, he had pulled out a rolls-royce?

This wasn't some toad; this was a golden toad draped in a burlap sack!

"Brother, stop dawdling."

Su Nianyao urged impatiently from inside the car. "Do you want me to come down and invite you too? This carpet is quite expensive; I'm afraid of getting my shoes dirty."

Su Muyang's face flushed.

This girl... was she taking this act a bit too far?

But in front of Qin Ya and her mother, he didn't want to show any weakness. He could only steel himself and bend down to climb into the back seat.

Cold Moon closed the car door.

It shut out the heat outside and Liu Qing's colorful expression.

The interior of the car was eerily quiet.

The Starlight Headliner flickered above, with hundreds of fiber-optic lights mimicking a brilliant night sky. Beneath his feet was a thick wool carpet, so soft his ankles felt like they were sinking into it.

Sitting on the leather seat, Su Muyang didn't even dare to rest his hands anywhere, only perching on the edge of the seat.

"Su Nianyao."

Su Muyang lowered his voice, his tone as serious as a school dean's. "Be honest with me, where did this car come from? Did you take out a high-interest loan to rent this just for show? Do you have any idea how many bowls of fried noodles Mom would have to sell to pay for even a single scratch on this thing?"

His first reaction wasn't that the family had struck it rich, but that his sister had gotten into trouble.

After all, having been poor for nineteen years, the mindset of poverty was etched into his very bones.

Su Nianyao didn't say anything. She just took a bottle of Evian water from the car's refrigerator, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to him.

"Have some water and calm down."

Su Nianyao sat with her legs crossed, looking relaxed. "Don't worry about where the car came from for now. What did we say about that bet earlier? If you leave in a luxury car, you have to call me 'Big Sister'."

"Like hell I will!"

Su Muyang pushed the water back, sweat beads forming on his forehead from anxiety. "You're still in the mood to joke? Tell the driver to stop the car! Return it before it gets damaged! If you're short on money, tell me, I have—"

"How much do you have?"

Su Nianyao interrupted him, leaning forward. Her eyes, which were identical to Chen Fan's, stared at her brother. "Do you have five thousand? Ten thousand? Or are you going to sell those worn-out sneakers of yours to scrape together two hundred?"

Su Muyang choked on his words.

He gripped his faded canvas bag tightly, his knuckles turning white from the effort.

Indeed, what did he have?

Besides the two hundred yuan tutoring fee he had just received from the Qin Family, he didn't even have enough for a taxi.

"Brother, face it. We used to live a pretty miserable life."

Su Nianyao sighed, dropping her playful expression, and pulled a black metal card from her bag.

Clack.

She lightly tapped it onto the center armrest.

"What... what is this?" Su Muyang stared at the black card. It had Pinyin engraved on it, and the craftsmanship was so exquisite it didn't look like an ordinary object.

"Dad gave it to me."

Su Nianyao dropped the bombshell nonchalantly.

Su Muyang froze for two seconds, then sneered. "That bastard who abandoned his wife and children? He's back? What, he couldn't make it out there and came back to trick you with a fake card?"

His hatred for Chen Fan was even greater than Su Wanqing's.

Being called a fatherless bastard by the neighbor's kids, getting beaten black and blue while fighting to protect his sister—those memories were too deeply ingrained.

"Whether he's a fraud or not, see for yourself."

Su Nianyao didn't want to explain too much. She pulled out her brand-new Huayao Ultimate Edition phone and opened the black banking app.

After facial recognition, the interface loaded.

She shoved the phone screen right in front of Su Muyang's eyes.

"Count them," Su Nianyao said.

Su Muyang frowned and glanced at it impatiently.

With that one glance, he couldn't look away.

On the screen was a string of numbers.

Very long.

So long they looked like random code.

1,000,000,000.

Su Muyang subconsciously began counting the zeros.

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, ten millions, hundred millions...

One billion.

Currency unit: RMB.

And that didn't even include the US dollar account below it.

Su Muyang felt as if someone had slammed a sledgehammer into the top of his head, making him see stars and filling his ears with a roar.

He snapped his head up to look at Su Nianyao, his lips trembling. "Is... is this a Photoshop app? Or a simulator?"

"This is the real-time balance."

Su Nianyao swiped her finger across the screen to bring up the transfer history. "See this one? It was transferred in this morning. This is my pocket money."

"Po... pocket money?"

Su Muyang felt that he must be crazy, or the world was.

Whose pocket money is one billion?

Not even spirit money for the dead is burned that recklessly!

"Dad is now the boss of Peak Capital." Su Nianyao felt a secret thrill seeing her brother's shocked look, just as Chen Fan had looked at her yesterday. "This car is just what he uses to get around Jiangcheng. Oh, and Mom is about to move into that big manor at Longwan No. 1."

"Brother, wake up."

Su Nianyao reached out and waved her hand in front of Su Muyang's eyes. "Our family is laying our cards on the table. No more pretending; we're billionaires."

Su Muyang slumped against the back of the seat.

He stared at the illusory starlight on the ceiling, his mind a total blank.

One billion.

He had worked himself to the bone as a Tutor, enduring eye-rolls and insults, just to earn six hundred a month.

And yet, his scumbag father who had been gone for nineteen years returns and casually tosses out a billion as pocket money?

A massive sense of absurdity and anger intertwined, crashing against the dam of his sanity.

"I don't believe it..."

Su Muyang muttered to himself, his voice dry. "It's impossible... If he's this rich, why only come back now? Why let Mom suffer so much?"

Su Nianyao didn't say anything.

She knew the shock was too great; she had to let her brother process it slowly.

She just watched Su Muyang quietly as he stared fixedly at that string of numbers, his Adam's apple bobbing violently as if he were trying to swallow a piece of glowing coal.

The car drove smoothly across the bridge spanning the river.

Outside the window, the neon lights of Jiangcheng receded rapidly.

Su Muyang looked at the old phone in his hand with its cracked screen, then at the priceless black card in his sister's hand.

Something he had held onto for nineteen years was cracking and shattering before this massive torrent of wealth.

"Then..."

Su Muyang swallowed hard, his throat extremely raspy. "Then where are we going?"

Su Nianyao's lips curled up, revealing a cute little canine tooth, though her eyes held a hint of cunning.

"I'm taking you to see what true 'money power' looks like."

"And while we're at it, let's sort out that business with your school beauty girlfriend."
