18: Site selection of the base
"I was just about to call you."
Shi Xu saw that Su Mianmian had already tidied herself up. He nodded, a hint of satisfaction on his face.
Seeing this, Su Mianmian couldn't help but mutter softly, "Men are indeed visual creatures."
Shi Xu heard her and smiled slightly, saying nothing.
After the two drove away, Butler Li watched from behind with immense relief.
All the way, Su Mianmian nervously wrung her fingers. She tried hard to recall how the Original Body's Owner interacted with the Shi Family members, to prevent acting too differently from the Original Body's Owner later on.
Shi Xu, driving the car, didn't see the multitude of thoughts churning beneath Su Mianmian's quiet exterior.
He was a person who liked peace and quiet; Su Mianmian not speaking didn't bother him.
Su Mianmian was also deep in thought at the moment and had no desire to speak.
If she hadn't been thinking, she might not have been able to tolerate such a quiet atmosphere.
"Shi Xu, will many people be here today?"
"Will that annoying person come back?"
Su Mianmian suddenly found a person in the Original Body's Owner's memory whom the Shi Family disliked the most. She quickly turned her head and asked Shi Xu.
The Original Body's Owner's memory was a good thing; plots not written in the book could be found in her memory.
Through the Original Body's Owner's memory combined with the plot she read in the book, Su Mianmian could avoid many dangers.
"Don't worry, there won't be too many people."
"It should just be Mom, Dad, and Grandpa."
Shi Xu couldn't help but smile when he heard Su Mianmian describe his cousin as an "annoying person."
That cousin indeed annoyed Su Mianmian quite a bit, always opposing her.
He knew a little, but he just didn't know what she ultimately wanted to do.
"Don't mind her; we won't be going with her family."
"They're just distant relatives anyway."
After Shi Xu finished speaking, he saw Su Mianmian's face light up with surprise.
The thought of not having to deal with those relatives made Su Mianmian feel incredibly happy.
After her excitement, she thought of something and looked at Shi Xu with curiosity, saying, "Shi Xu, will the family disapprove?"
After all, they were all relatives, and she felt that the Shi Family placed a lot of importance on such matters.
Shi Xu turned his head and saw Su Mianmian looking conflicted. He couldn't help but chuckle softly.
He realized that Su Mianmian didn't quite trust him.
Shi Xu reflected on himself, thinking that he hadn't paid enough attention to Su Mianmian before, to the point where she didn't quite trust him anymore.
He shook his head, feeling a little sad inside.
He didn't want Su Mianmian to classify him as untrustworthy.
He hoped she could trust him.
"Mianmian, you can trust me."
"Although our family values tradition, the apocalypse is not a small matter, and we cannot let those with ulterior motives know about it."
"Not all relatives are good; I believe Grandpa and the others are clearer about this than I am."
As Shi Xu said this, a dark glint flashed in his eyes.
He just chose not to deal with what those people did behind their backs; if he really did, none of them would escape.
Su Mianmian looked at Shi Xu's profound expression and felt that wealthy families indeed had a lot of trouble.
As the two chatted, they soon arrived at the Shi Family's Old Residence.
Su Mianmian glanced out the car window and saw that the Old Residence was an ancient, picturesque house.
It wasn't as modern as the one she and Shi Xu lived in.
The environment of the Old Residence was quieter and more secluded, suitable for retirement.
She surveyed the terrain and secretly shook her head.
If the apocalypse came, this place would definitely fall.
It was too unsuitable for living after the apocalypse.
Shi Xu saw Su Mianmian shaking her head. Just as he was about to ask something, Su Mianmian voiced her thoughts.
Shi Xu was taken aback by her words; he had clearly never considered this matter.
"Mianmian, I still don't know where to build a base after the apocalypse!"
"Where do you think would be more suitable?"
Shi Xu parked the car in a spot. He didn't get out but instead asked Su Mianmian.
Su Mianmian pondered, resting her chin on her hand. Shi Xu saw her thinking seriously and didn't speak, his eyes subtly watching her as she contemplated the problem.
Her lack of this was quite interesting.
Su Mianmian didn't know Shi Xu's thoughts. Once she was immersed in solving a problem, she forgot about the people and things around her.
She remembered that in the novel, Shi Xu and his family initially stayed at the Old Residence. Later, to find the Original Body's Owner and her brother, Shi Xu moved his family to their current home.
Their current home was built halfway up a mountain, making it prone to landslides in the early stages of the apocalypse.
Shi Xu and his family also experienced a major landslide at that time before changing residences.
Su Mianmian felt they had gone through several twists and turns.
It seemed that H City was where they finally established their base.
After Su Mianmian remembered, her eyes lit up instantly.
Shi Xu saw Su Mianmian's expression change repeatedly, and when she became excited later, he knew she had figured it out.
He smiled, thinking she was truly very clever.
Su Mianmian turned her head and looked at Shi Xu excitedly, saying, "Shi Xu, let's go to H City!"
Shi Xu heard her and asked curiously, "Why H City?"
They were currently in J City, at least two thousand kilometers from H City.
Why travel so far?
Shi Xu was a little confused.
As if understanding Shi Xu's thoughts, Su Mianmian analyzed, "H City is far from the sea, so it won't be in danger of seawater backflow or sudden attacks by marine creatures."
Shi Xu nodded, signaling her to continue.
"J City has too many prominent families, and various forces are mixed. If we stay here, we'll easily encounter danger."
"Other places aren't very good; either there are too many plants or it's prone to earthquakes."
"In my dream, H City is the most suitable place to live in the later stages."
"It's not suitable in the early stages; there will be a major earthquake there in the early stages."
Su Mianmian looked at Shi Xu with a serious expression.
Shi Xu found Su Mianmian's description of J City very reasonable.
The various forces entrenched here were indeed a serious problem; if they wanted to build a base here, they would have too many people to deal with.
Shi Xu himself was not a person who liked trouble. With Su Mianmian's analysis, he had already given up on this place in his mind.
As for other places, Shi Xu felt anywhere would do.
Having his family by his side was the most important thing.
After discussing the base issue, the two got out of the car.
As soon as Su Mianmian got out, a charming middle-aged woman ran over and took her arm.
She almost subconsciously shook her off.
Fortunately, the woman spoke, calling her name, which made her realize this was Shi Xu's Mother. Otherwise, she really would have been disrespectful!
"Mianmian, why are you only just arriving now?"
"Is Shi Xu not letting you come?"
Mother Shi turned her head and glared at Shi Xu, then her expression returned to excitement when she looked at Su Mianmian.
