44: Clearing out zombies
Shi Xu reacted first, he walked to Su Mianmian’s side and said solemnly, “No matter what world we enter, I will protect you.”
Su Jinxuan, listening from the side, was incredibly happy.
He was very relieved to have someone like Shi Xu protecting his sister.
Su Mianmian glanced at Su Jinxuan, clearly, she still remembered he was there.
“Oh, I’m leaving now, you two can chat slowly.”
After Su Jinxuan left, the others also excused themselves, claiming they were tired and wanted to go back to sleep.
Soon, only Shi Xu and Su Mianmian were left in the living room.
“I’m going back to sleep too.”
Su Mianmian finished speaking, and without waiting for Shi Xu to react, she ran upstairs.
Shi Xu looked at her retreating figure and shook his head helplessly.
Su Mianmian ran back to her room, locked the door, and leaned against it, feeling her heart pound.
After a while, her heartbeat finally returned to normal.
She walked to the window, pulled back the curtains, and calmly looked out at the dark night.
Upon closer inspection, Su Mianmian noticed black mist gathering outside.
She observed carefully and saw that the black mist was drifting towards the mountain.
Su Mianmian felt something was amiss.
Why was this black mist specifically drifting towards the mountain?
Unable to find an answer, Su Mianmian could only rest first.
She didn't know what kind of situation would arise tomorrow morning.
She absolutely needed to be well-rested.
Under the cover of night, there was an endless abyss.
Overnight, the entire world changed.
The next morning, Su Mianmian was awakened by a scream of “Ah!”
She sat up abruptly and turned her head towards the source of the sound.
Unfortunately, it was blocked by a high wall, so she couldn't see.
She knew that the owner of the scream must have seen a zombie.
Such situations should be happening everywhere.
Su Mianmian calmly got out of bed, washed up, and changed clothes.
When she went downstairs, everyone else was already awake.
Seeing their dark circles under their eyes, she guessed they probably hadn't slept last night.
“Did you all go robbing last night?”
“All of you have such heavy dark circles.”
Su Mianmian looked at their nervous expressions and joked to lighten the mood.
Her original intention was just to make them less tense.
“Sigh, I wanted to sleep last night, but this old man wouldn’t sleep!”
“He kept saying there was black mist drifting onto the mountain.”
“I didn’t see it and thought he was seeing things, but he insisted.”
“Did any of you see any black mist?”
Mother Shi glared at Father Shi, then turned to Su Mianmian and asked.
Su Mianmian looked at Mother Shi in surprise; she hadn't seen it?
“I didn’t see it either.”
“Me neither.”
“I saw it.”
...Only Shi Xu said he saw it, and Su Mianmian was a little curious when she heard that.
Could it be that this black mist wasn't visible to everyone?
“Mianmian, did you see it?”
Shi Xu saw Su Mianmian deep in thought and asked doubtfully.
He had a feeling, he felt she had seen it.
Su Mianmian nodded, making his feeling come true.
Shi Xu was silent for a moment, then murmured to himself, “Why is this black mist like this?”
Why could some people see it and others not?
Su Mianmian was also pondering this question.
The book didn't mention anything about this black mist, so she couldn't draw any conclusions from it.
It seemed that with her arrival, the apocalypse had become even more mysterious.
“Now is not the time to think about these things. There are some scattered zombies outside the villa. Should we deal with them?”
“If we don’t deal with them, I’m afraid they’ll gather here after they finish eating other people.”
Su Jinxuan had noticed many more zombies outside when he checked the surveillance this morning.
They wandered aimlessly outside, gathering wherever they heard movement.
Su Jinxuan felt that if they didn't get rid of them, it would make their lives difficult going forward.
Su Mianmian nodded. Clearing the nearby zombies was necessary, and not just zombies, other things also needed to be cleared.
“It will rain in a week.”
“It will rain continuously for about a month.”
“After the rain, there will be blizzards.”
“When it snows, we definitely need to live in a high-rise building.”
This place was not suitable for living when it snowed. They either had to leave now or wait until the rain stopped.
Su Mianmian glanced at Shi Xu, wanting to see what he thought.
“The high-rise building is not far from here, it’s better if we go now.”
“We can clear zombies as we go.”
“While the zombies’ levels are not high, everyone should get some practice.”
Shi Xu said after some thought.
If they were going to leave, they should leave now, before people reacted, just leave directly.
Su Mianmian agreed with his idea, and the two hit it off immediately.
Su Mianmian had lived in the villa for a long time and had developed an attachment to it.
She put everything into her space.
When she had a stable residence in the future, she would restore it to its current state.
Shi Xu was worried that too many people walking together would easily attract zombies, so he divided them into groups.
Xu Qing and three others would protect Mother Shi, Father Shi, and Grandpa Shi.
Su Mianmian, Shi Xu, and Su Jinxuan would take Butler Li.
Su Mianmian’s group went out first, with the other team a little behind.
As soon as Su Mianmian stepped out, she encountered a zombie with half its head bitten off.
She froze for a moment, and her machete instinctively swung towards its remaining head.
With a “thud,” the remaining half of its head fell off.
The others froze for a moment, then reacted and looked at Su Mianmian with admiration.
Su Mianmian: “...”
Could she say it was just a reflex?
That zombie suddenly pounced on her, and to save herself, she could only instinctively chop.
“Does this zombie have a crystal core?” Su Jinxuan kicked its head and asked, puzzled.
Su Mianmian shook her head and told him which zombies had crystal cores.
When Su Jinxuan heard that zombies with gray eyes didn't have crystal cores, he couldn't help but sigh, “Then there won’t be any crystal cores to collect in the early apocalypse.”
Su Mianmian nodded.
No crystal cores meant no crystal cores.
Now was just for practice; if a Level 1 zombie really appeared, they might not necessarily be able to defeat it.
As they walked to a house, a small zombie ran out from inside.
Su Mianmian instinctively kicked it away.
She glanced inside the house and couldn't help but shake her head.
This zombie had bitten everyone in the house to death.
“Do we have to kill this small zombie too?”
“Why don’t we just leave it?”
Xu Qing looked at the small zombie, which was only four or five years old, and couldn't help but feel soft-hearted.
Su Mianmian shook her head seriously and said, “No, it has eaten several people, and its eyes are already a little dark. If we leave it, there will be endless trouble.”
Shi Xu also strongly disagreed. He looked at the small zombie, which was still trying to pounce on them, and pointed at Xu Qing, saying, “You go deal with it.”
Xu Qing: “...”
He felt that Shi Xu was punishing him for what he had just said.
Xu Qing held the machete and looked at the small zombie with a serious expression.
The small zombie seemed to sense his hostility. It withdrew its gaze from Su Mianmian and looked at Xu Qing.
Xu Qing knew this zombie was stronger than the others. When it pounced, he dodged to the side.
The small zombie didn't expect him to be so fast. It bared its teeth, and with fresh blood clinging to its mouth, it looked chilling.
Xu Qing had already grasped its strength and speed at this point, and he launched an attack first.
When the machete struck the small zombie’s head, it made a “thump” sound.
Xu Qing took a look; its head was fine, but his blade was not.
Why was this zombie’s head so hard?
Xu Qing was secretly astonished.
Su Mianmian looked at the small zombie. It had already been enraged by Xu Qing and wanted to pounce on him again.
“Xu Qing, focus.”
She couldn't help but remind him.
As Xu Qing reacted, the small zombie happened to pounce on him.
