9: Uncertain about the future
Shi Xu wondered how Su Mianmian seemed to know so much about the world she described.
Could a dream really make someone understand things so clearly?
Shi Xu was starting to doubt it.
Su Mianmian knew that Shi Xu was suspicious of what she had just said, and she was currently trying to come up with an explanation.
Suddenly, a light bulb went off in her head; she had an idea.
"Shi Xu, I've said so much, and you might still be a little doubtful, so let me show you a magic trick!"
"Look!"
After Su Mianmian finished speaking, she placed her hand on the table in front of her. After silently chanting "collect" in her heart, the table was stored into her spatial dimension.
Shi Xu didn't have a direct feeling when Su Mianmian spoke, but now he did.
He hadn't expected that there could be such a thing as a spatial dimension in the world, capable of storing items.
"Actually, it's not the first time I've had this dream. It's just that the previous dreams weren't as vivid and real as the one I had last night."
"My previous dreams were a bit blurry, but I still remember some information."
"Through the dreams I had recently, combined with the one last night, I've managed to piece together the general situation this morning."
"I thought that if I were to tell you, I'd have to make you believe me."
"Otherwise, wouldn't I be talking in vain?"
Su Mianmian felt that with this explanation, Shi Xu shouldn't doubt her too much anymore, right?
After she finished speaking, she looked at Shi Xu with a sincere expression, but her heart was incredibly tense.
It wasn't until she saw Shi Xu's expression soften that her anxious heart slowly settled down.
Su Mianmian was now sure that Shi Xu believed her explanation.
"Mianmian, you should have told me earlier."
"You've endured so much alone; were you very scared?"
Shi Xu glanced at Su Mianmian's frail body. He found it hard to imagine how she had managed to cope with so much by herself.
If he had returned earlier, would she have told him sooner?
This was all his fault.
He hadn't fulfilled his responsibilities and obligations.
Su Mianmian didn't want to discuss these things with Shi Xu right now. She hadn't actually dreamed of the apocalypse, and if he kept asking, she wouldn't know how to continue her lie.
Seeing Shi Xu's pained expression, she silently scoffed in her heart, thinking, if he had known to feel sorry for her earlier, what had he been doing all this time?
However, this couldn't be entirely blamed on Shi Xu. Su Mianmian was just casually complaining; she didn't genuinely mean to blame him for anything.
"Shi Xu, you must believe that the apocalypse is really coming now, right?"
"I think we really should seize the time to hoard supplies now."
"After the apocalypse, all order will be destroyed, and food, clothing, housing, and transportation will be the most fiercely contested resources among survivors."
"If we don't collect supplies in advance now, it will be difficult then."
Another reason Su Mianmian told Shi Xu was because she had no money; most of her money had been swindled by that woman.
Thinking of this, she felt speechless. How could the Original Body's Owner have trusted that woman so much?
Seeing Su Mianmian so anxious about supplies, Shi Xu thought for a moment and said, "The matter of supplies is indeed urgent. How about this, tonight we'll go back to the Old Residence. Mom and Dad also need to know about this."
Su Mianmian nodded when she heard Shi Xu say that.
Since Shi Xu said so, he naturally had his considerations, and she would simply listen.
"Oh, and Shi Xu."
"I want to bring my brother over to live with us. I don't want him to stay in the hospital anymore."
"Is that okay?"
Su Mianmian suddenly remembered this matter and looked up, speaking earnestly to Shi Xu.
She was still acting as if she didn't know the relationship between Shi Xu and her brother, so asking was necessary, but she wasn't worried that Shi Xu would refuse her.
Sure enough, after hearing her words, Shi Xu not only didn't refuse but also agreed wholeheartedly.
"Mianmian, if you want to bring your brother over, I naturally agree."
"But he's been in a vegetative state; will there be any danger?"
"Those mutated people you mentioned, how exactly do they mutate?"
Shi Xu was very concerned about this question. He was a little worried that if they didn't know this crucial point, they too might become mutated people.
Su Mianmian felt that Shi Xu was really good at grasping the key points. She had thought he wouldn't ask her this question, but he thought for a moment and realized it was a crucial issue.
"Shi Xu, in my dream, the apocalypse will arrive in three months, on September 15th."
"Around seven in the evening on September 14th, there will be a rain. That rain contains many viruses, and basically, anyone who touches that rain will turn into a monster."
"But this isn't absolute; a small number of people will become ability users with powers."
"Fever is a very critical piece of information. People who touch the rain, whether they become an ability user or a monster, all share one common trait: they will all have a fever before the change."
"Also, some people will awaken abilities before the apocalypse, but they won't be able to activate them until the apocalypse actually arrives."
"For these three months, pay close attention to the people around you and see if they have a fever."
Su Mianmian recalled the plot from the novel while speaking to Shi Xu.
She felt that drinking more spirit spring water should help activate abilities better.
Su Mianmian had already decided to drink more spirit spring water.
After listening to Su Mianmian's words, Shi Xu's expression involuntarily became solemn.
"You said it might not necessarily be three months later that the apocalypse arrives."
"It could actually come earlier."
Shi Xu looked at Su Mianmian with a serious expression. He felt that determining the time based solely on a dream was too unscientific, and he still needed to prepare for the worst.
Su Mianmian hadn't expected Shi Xu to say that, and her heart immediately tightened.
She felt that what Shi Xu said was very correct. The novel stated that the apocalypse would arrive on September 15th, but now that she had transmigrated into the novel, no one knew if the plot would change due to her arrival.
Su Mianmian felt that the best course of action now was to take things one step at a time.
The plot she knew could be used as a reference, but it couldn't be fully trusted.
Thinking of this, Su Mianmian suddenly felt a bit lost.
The reason she hadn't had any particular reaction after coming here was because she thought she had mastered the plot, but the result... Su Mianmian silently lowered her head, suddenly feeling uncertain about the path ahead.
