254: One sword breaks a gun, one finger breaks a spell!
Below, Hiram, the Vice Bishop, was burning with anxiety, leading his two most elite Knight Orders in a frantic pursuit up the stairs.
“Run faster, all of you!” he roared as he ran, “You absolutely cannot let them get close to the Holy Temple!”
He could feel the invaders’ aura right above him, and… they had stopped!
“What do they want to do? Do they intend to damage the Tower?” a Knight Commander asked, panting heavily.
“No matter what they want to do, crush them for me!” Hiram’s eyes were filled with murderous intent.
Finally, they rounded a corner and saw the lone figure standing there.
A woman.
Dressed in a white gown, with silver hair like a waterfall, her figure was graceful, and her aura enchanting.
She stood there quietly, as if she wasn’t being pursued, but rather waiting for their arrival.
“Only one?” Hiram was stunned for a moment, then his fury flared.
What arrogance!
What contempt!
“A single heretic dares to block our path? Crush her! I will make her understand that the only outcome for despising the Church is the utter destruction of her Divine Soul!”
Dozens of Judgment Knights roared, erupting with dazzling Holy Light, and charged towards Bai Lingyue.
Looking at the enemies rushing towards her, Bai Lingyue’s red lips curved slightly, forming a captivating smile.
“Formation activate, Mirror Flower Water Moon,” she whispered softly, then elegantly snapped her fingers.
Buzz—
The entire space was distorted by an invisible ripple.
The Knights at the very front suddenly found that the scene before them had changed.
The woman in white vanished, replaced by the familiar, winding staircase behind them that led upwards.
“Where is she?”
“Did she run away?”
“No!” Hiram immediately sensed the anomaly, “The surrounding Holy Light energy flow… it’s become chaotic!”
“It’s an illusion! We’ve fallen into a trap!”
Before he finished speaking, the Knights beside him suddenly let out terrified screams.
“Ah! My hand! My hand is rotting!” A Knight watched his arm in horror, seeing his skin turn black and fester at a visible speed, oozing foul-smelling pus.
“Save me! Save me! My eyes!” Another Knight clutched his face in pain, blood gushing from between his fingers.
“Monsters! So many monsters!”
More Knights began to babble incoherently, waving their longswords wildly, attacking the air around them, and their companions.
In their vision, their companions had all transformed into the Empire’s former residents whom they had personally massacred, and those people had become vengeful spirits, extending their pale hands to drag them into Hell.
“Hold steady, all of you! This is an illusion! It’s fake!” Hiram roared, erupting with powerful Holy Light, attempting to dispel the illusion.
His strength was indeed formidable; wherever his Holy Light reached, the illusions shattered.
But soon, new illusions emerged from elsewhere, endlessly.
He saw countless pale arms extending from the walls and floor, grabbing at his ankles;
He heard countless departed Souls whispering in his ear, recounting the pain of being purified;
He also smelled the decaying aura of the Undead Lord, Howler Victor, an aura that made his Soul tremble.
This illusion array not only created illusions but also stirred their deepest fears.
“Damn heretic!” Hiram was both shocked and enraged.
He finally understood that the opponent wasn’t fleeing, but using this method to stall their advance!
Outside the illusion array, Bai Lingyue looked at the Knights inside, fighting among themselves and making fools of themselves, and nodded with satisfaction.
She didn’t watch any longer, turning to follow the direction Mo Yan had left.
“I wish you all a pleasant time.”
...
When Mo Yan arrived at the top of Holy God Tower with Gun Gun, a hundredfold pressure assailed them.
Before them was a magnificent gate, ten meters high.
Molten-like dark red patterns flowed across the gate.
The gate itself was made of pure Holy Light energy, emitting dazzling golden light that made it impossible to look at directly.
Darkness and divinity, two completely opposite forces, were perfectly fused in this gate.
Mo Yan could sense that the aura of this gate was closely connected to the entire Deegenha City’s defensive array and to Archbishop Marcus, who was presiding over the ritual.
There were only two ways to enter.
Either possess the power to overwhelm the entire array and forcefully blast it open.
Or, sever its connection to the core.
On either side of the giant gate stood a stone statue over three meters tall.
On the left was a male Saint holding a Judgment Codex with a majestic face.
On the right was a female Angel clutching a long spear of punishment, with a compassionate expression.
They appeared to be mere decorations, but in Mo Yan’s perception, the interiors of these two statues contained surging, powerful energy.
And… two powerful Souls, imprisoned and filled with madness and obsession.
“Rank… LV8.” Mo Yan’s gaze, for the first time, became truly serious.
These were the strongest enemies he had encountered since entering this Dungeon.
“Mo Yan…” Gun Gun also seemed to sense the danger, instinctively gripping Mo Yan’s pant leg with his small claws, emitting uneasy growls from his throat.
Just then, Bai Lingyue’s figure quietly appeared behind them.
She glanced at the two statues, and her usual charming smile faded considerably.
“My Lord, we’ve hit a tough one this time,” Bai Lingyue said, her charming smile gone, her tone unusually serious, “These are the Church’s Holy Spirit Guards, war Puppets refined from the Souls of the most fanatical lunatics and Holy Stones.
“They feel no pain, fear no death, and… my illusions are useless against them.”
“These two are genuinely LV8, so you must be careful, My Lord, don’t stumble in the gutter; your subordinate doesn’t want to collect your corpse.”
As soon as she finished speaking.
Crack—
Cracks began to appear on the surface of the two stone statues.
Stone chips fell, revealing their metallic-sheened bodies within.
Their eyes, too, changed from hollow gray to pupils burning with golden flames.
They came to life.
“The majesty of God… must not be desecrated… You all… shall enter Hell…”
A synthesized, non-human voice simultaneously emanated from the mouths of the two Guards.
The Angel Guard on the right, its long spear of punishment transforming into a golden lightning bolt, tore through the air and thrust directly at Mo Yan’s glabella.
Meanwhile, the Saint Guard on the left opened the Codex in his hand.
Circles of golden Judgment halos spread out from the book, sealing off all of Mo Yan’s possible evasion routes.
One attacked, one controlled, cooperating flawlessly.
The intensity of this instantly unleashed attack already far exceeded the Judgment Holy Spear jointly launched by Judge Marius and thirty Knights earlier.
“My Lord, be careful!” Bai Lingyue cried out, about to make a move.
“Stand back.”
Mo Yan calmly gave the order.
Not flustered in the slightest.
He drew the longsword from his waist.
The tip of his sword collided with the tip of the golden lightning spear.
A shockwave, centered on the sword and spear, erupted and spread.
The Angel Guard’s unstoppable charge was easily halted.
The long spear in its hand trembled violently.
Mo Yan, however, held his sword hand as steady as a rock, unmoving.
At the same same time, the Judgment halos that confined the space had contracted before him.
Mo Yan snorted coldly, formed a Sword Dao hand seal with his left hand, and pointed his fingers like a sword, drawing a line in the Void Realm before him.
“Break.”
A Sword Qi burst forth from his fingertips.
The seemingly indestructible golden halo, upon contact with this Sword Qi, was silently sliced open as if by a hot knife through butter, splitting into two halves and dissipating.
One sword broke the spear, one finger broke the spell.
In just a single exchange, the combined attack of the two great LV8 Holy Spirit Guards was so effortlessly resolved by Mo Yan.
With their offensive thwarted in one move, the golden flames on the two Holy Spirit Guards surged violently.
In their hollow eye sockets, the ethereal image of Archbishop Marcus simultaneously appeared, and a cold killing intent locked onto Mo Yan!
“Somewhat interesting… Kill him.” The Archbishop’s will was conveyed through the Guards.
