155: The Troubles of "Resonance Guidance" and "Human Weather Forecasters"

Ever since successfully achieving a faint interference with the lcl cluster and the Photonic Current during that meticulously designed training session, Excellence felt as though he had pushed open a door to a new world. An unprecedented sense of novelty and a desire for exploration burned fiercely within him. He was no longer content with merely passively "listening" and "watching" the world's information field; instead, he couldn't wait to extend the "little hand" of his consciousness to actively, gently touch and interact. This feeling was like an infant who had just discovered they could wiggle their fingers, excitedly wanting to touch everything in sight, filled with pure curiosity and unmasked impulsiveness.

However, between "being able to touch" and "being able to touch gracefully and precisely" lay a chasm requiring extensive practice and constant trial and error. Excellence's ability of Active Resonance was currently in its most primitive and crude nascent stage. His control over this new power was like a child wielding a heavy hammer for the first time—the intention was good, but the result was often a mess and hilarious "accidents."

Consequently, Excellence's daily life gained many chaotic and disruptive episodes.

The Desk Storm Incident: One afternoon, Excellence was reading at his desk and found the pen on the other side of the table a bit too far, so he was too lazy to reach for it. A sudden thought struck him: "I'll try my new ability!" He took a deep breath, stared intently at the pen, and silently chanted in his mind: "Come here, come here, come to my hand!" He strained to "project" his intent, but because he couldn't precisely control the direction and focal point of the force, the "pushing force" he imagined turned into an invisible, diffused airflow. The pen did move—it bounced sharply off the desk and then dropped to the floor with a "patta." Worse still, as the pen flew up, all the papers and draft notebooks spread across the desk were swept up as if by a gale, fluttering everywhere like snowflakes. Excellence himself was startled by the result, staring dumbfounded at the chaotic mess on his desk.

Su Mu’s Reaction: Su Mu, who rushed over after hearing the commotion, found the scene both annoying and amusing. While helping him pick up the papers, she said helplessly, "My little ancestor! Are you trying to summon a Divine Dragon? It's just a pen, would moving your hand really tire you out?"

Evelyn’s Analysis: After checking the situation, Evelyn explained, "Your intent is like the beam of a flashlight; it needs to be focused into a single point to illuminate something far away. The light you are currently emitting is diffused, like a light bulb, illuminating the entire desktop, and naturally 'blowing' everything around. You need to practice 'focusing.'"

The Pothos Energy Therapy Failure Case: Excellence saw a pot of Pothos on the windowsill with some yellowing leaves. Overwhelmed by kindness, he decided to use his "energy" to "cure" the plant. He held his hands hovering above the Pothos with a look of reverence, earnestly imagining "warm, green life energy" flowing into the leaves. Half an hour later, the Pothos not only failed to turn green but looked even more wilted, and several previously healthy leaves began to curl unnaturally.

Su Mu’s Lecture: When Su Mu discovered this, she quickly moved the Pothos far away from Excellence, placing her hands on her hips to lecture him: "Excellence! Plants are living things too! Your energy might just be chaotic interference waves to it! Don't you dare use your powers on plants and flowers casually anymore! Watering and fertilizing is the proper way!"

Evelyn’s Scientific Interpretation: "A plant's energy field is extremely subtle and stable. The unharmonized energy flow you forcibly injected disrupted its own physiological rhythm. It's like giving someone random tonics, which only cause problems. Energy intervention requires extremely precise frequency matching, which you are currently far from achieving."

Mosquito's Ultimate Showdown (The most dangerous time): On a summer night, a mosquito buzzed around Excellence's ear, keeping him awake. Annoyed, he sat up and decided to use his "ultimate weapon"—using his intent to "command" the mosquito to fly away. He sat cross-legged on the bed, cleared his mind, and focused all his Mental Power on the mosquito, attempting to "lock onto" and "drive it away" with his consciousness. He strained until his face was flushed red and his temples throbbed. A few minutes later, the mosquito was still circling leisurely, but Excellence suddenly felt dizzy and faint, his vision darkening. He fell straight backward, thankfully onto the soft bed. Su Mu, who rushed in to check on him, was terrified by his pale face. She quickly gave him sugar water and checked his blood pressure. Fortunately, it was just temporary hypoglycemia and insufficient blood supply to the brain caused by excessive mental concentration.

Su Mu’s Fear and Interdiction: This incident truly scared Su Mu. Still shaken, she issued a strict command: "Excellence! I am warning you solemnly! From now on, you are strictly forbidden from using your ability on any living creature, especially things like mosquitoes, flies, or cockroaches! Do you hear me? If you do this again, I’ll deduct your entire month's snack allowance! Use your hand to swat! Use mosquito coils! Just don't use your 'superpower'! It's too dangerous!"

Evelyn’s Energy Conservation Lesson: Evelyn seized the opportunity to give Excellence a vivid lesson on "Energy Conservation": "Excellence, your ability consumes your 'Mental Power,' which can be understood as a special kind of bio-energy. Just like running consumes physical strength. Concentrating your mind to 'activate your power' consumes a huge amount. When dealing with small creatures like mosquitoes, which have an autonomous nervous system and can quickly evade, your energy is like using a cannon to shoot a mosquito—not only do you miss, but the recoil hurts you. Remember, the cost and efficiency must be considered in the application of any ability."

The series of "accidents" made Excellence realize that enthusiasm alone was not enough; systematic and arduous training was necessary to improve control precision and efficiency. Evelyn customized a mandatory daily course for him called "Mental Focus and Energy Guidance." This training included a series of strange breathing rhythms, eye movements, attention switching exercises, and guided imagery, all designed to train his fine control over his own intent, much like an athlete performing muscle control training.

Excellence privately nicknamed this training the "Calisthenics Pro Max Edition," because the movements looked a bit silly, but they were certainly much more complex and tiring than ordinary calisthenics. He needed to practice how to switch his consciousness from "floodlight" mode to "laser pointer" mode; how to control the "output power" from a "breeze" to "barely perceptible airflow"; and how to quickly switch "channels" between different targets without interference.

The training process was tedious and full of frustration. Often, he felt like he was trying to thread a needle with his mind, but his hands kept shaking, preventing him from succeeding. He would scratch his head, sigh, and occasionally even try to cheat or give up due to repeated failures.

It was then that Su Mu's Snack Incentive Method played a huge role. Like training a little seal, she established a clear "performance reward system": successfully moving a specific feather one centimeter earned a small cookie; stably reducing the brightness of a designated LED light by 10% and maintaining it for three seconds earned a chocolate bean; completing a set of "calisthenics" without errors earned a cup of freshly squeezed juice... This tactic was exceptionally effective on Excellence. For the sake of his beloved snacks, he could re-muster astonishing patience and perseverance, repeating the seemingly boring exercises again and again.

As the training deepened, Excellence's already acute Perception ability seemed to be further amplified by the awakening of his active abilities. He could now not only "pre-sense" small events around him but also vaguely "sense" broader, more macroscopic changes in natural energy. This unexpectedly turned him into a walking environmental monitoring station, though one whose accuracy was debatable.

Unreliable Weather Forecast: One day after dinner, Excellence looked at the crimson sunset outside the window, suddenly frowned, and announced to Su Mu and Evelyn in a very serious tone: "Class Monitor, Sister Evelyn! My 'antenna' is receiving a strong signal! Tomorrow afternoon, around three o'clock, there will be a super heavy rainstorm! With hail! We need to bring in the laundry and close the windows early!"

Su Mu and Evelyn were skeptical but still made some preparations. The next day, however, was sunny and cloudless, with only a few drizzles appearing toward the evening. Excellence was wilted from the sun, gazing at the azure sky, utterly perplexed. He muttered, "That's strange... I clearly felt the sky was 'heavy,' like it was filled with lead... why wasn't it accurate?"

Evelyn’s Interpretation: "Your feeling might have captured changes in atmospheric pressure, but your judgment regarding the probability and form of precipitation is still very primitive and vague. 'Heaviness' might indicate the passage of a high-pressure ridge, which actually suggests clear weather. You need to learn how to convert your feelings into more objective parameters, such as 'how many hectopascals of pressure change this heavy feeling corresponds to.'"

False Alarm Aftershock Warning: One midnight, Excellence suddenly woke up from his sleep, his heart racing, seized by an inexplicable sense of unease. He ran barefoot to Evelyn's dorm room door and nervously knocked: "Sister Evelyn! Wake up quickly! I feel the ground 'sighing softly'! It seems... it seems the earth is trembling slightly! Could it be an aftershock? (There had been a minor tremor nearby previously)."

Evelyn immediately woke up, opened the door to comfort him, and quickly checked the real-time seismic monitoring network data—everything was normal, with no unusual fluctuations. She then checked Excellence's physical condition and found that he had eaten a lot of bean products that evening, causing some intestinal bloating. Evelyn smiled helplessly, patted his head, and said, "It might not be the earth sighing; it could be your little tummy digesting dinner, and the gas produced is making your intestines 'sigh.' Eat fewer gas-producing foods at night from now on."

Learning to Differentiate Signals: After this mix-up, Evelyn began systematically teaching Excellence how to distinguish between his own physiological signals (such as hunger, fatigue, and gastrointestinal discomfort) and genuine external environmental signals. She had him record his physical sensations and external conditions every time he had a "pre-sense," gradually learning to identify what was "internal noise" and what was a real "external signal."

Although he caused quite a few jokes, the sustained practice and guidance gradually showed results. Excellence's control over his own abilities steadily improved, and the accuracy of his "forecasts" also began to show small but encouraging progress.

The time he was most proud of was when he suddenly felt a subtle, continuous "buzzing" noise in the laboratory that greatly unsettled him. He told Evelyn, "The machine analyzing the spectrum, its 'heart' is beating irregularly, the rhythm is wrong, it sounds like it's about to 'cough.'" Evelyn initially thought he might be overly sensitive, but she still had technicians check the large spectrometer that was running continuously. Sure enough, they found signs of early wear on the bearing of an internal cooling fan, causing slight vibration and noise during operation, which could eventually lead to data drift or even failure! A potential minor accident was averted in advance.

This small success greatly boosted Excellence's confidence. He gradually learned to view the "instability" of his abilities with a more peaceful and self-deprecating attitude. He even made up a jingle to poke fun at himself, which he often recited: "Excellence's forecast, nine times out of ten it's wrong, getting one right is good luck! Excellence's power, the effect is random, don't blame the little brother if it’s a mess!" This sense of humor was a sign of his growing psychological resilience.

Growth During the Adjustment Period

This period, filled with "sweet troubles," was an indispensable part of Excellence's path to growth. He was undergoing a difficult yet interesting "adjustment period" with his unique abilities. From initially being an "ability vessel" led by his power and constantly causing trouble, he was gradually transitioning, through failure, learning, practice, and reflection, toward becoming the "ability master" who could initially command, and even consciously utilize, this talent.

This process was full of laughter, sweat, and occasional tears, and it was inseparable from Su Mu's warm and steadfast protection and Evelyn's rational and precise guidance. One provided emotional motivation with love and snacks, while the other pointed the way forward with science and methodology, jointly escorting Excellence's growth. The road ahead is still long, and the challenges will be greater, but every clumsy attempt and every tiny step of progress now is building valuable experience and confidence for him to face the wider world in the future.
