293: Choices and Responses

I. Countdown and Pressure

Absolute silence was no longer merely the absence of sound; it had become an entity possessing mass, temperature, and even "will." It was like the cold, viscous deep-sea water that had settled here for eons, seeping through every crack in the ranger's armor, soaking into the cabin, and enveloping the physical form and consciousness of everyone inside. Here, the word "quiet" felt too frivolous—this was "annihilation" itself, the graveyard of all sounds, the end point of all vibrations and echo.

Outside the porthole, that gate.

It stood upon an infinite "substrate" that was gray, smooth, and mirror-like as stagnant water, so vast it transcended the limits of the word "huge." It did not look like an artificial creation, but rather a spectacle condensed from natural laws, or perhaps the cold spine of some sleeping ancient god. The blackness of its material was a pure black that absorbed all light and hope; the silvery-gray luster flowing on its surface was frost formed from frozen time, moving slowly and sluggishly. The intricate patterns and symbols on the gate, complex enough to make one's soul dizzy, were like an unsolvable epitaph written by the universe itself, silently telling the ultimate secrets of origin, end, and confinement.

And that sliver of light between the cracks of the gate.

Chaotic, shifting, and undefinable. It was as faint as the final sigh of a dying star, yet it contained a pure "unknown" that made the soul instinctively tremble. It was the breath of some boundless existence isolated behind the gate, the first ominous tide seeping from a crack in a dam after the balance had tipped.

Three hours. Evelyn's cold countdown, in bright red digits, hovered in the corner of the main screen; every tick felt like a heavy hammer striking everyone's nerve endings. The ship's energy reserve curve was dropping at an irrecoverable slope, like the straight line declaring the end on a vital signs monitor. What was even more terrifying was the sense of detachment at the existential level—the boundaries of the self became blurred in this absolute "silence," and thoughts felt as if they were about to leave the skull and merge into this eternal dead silence. They could clearly feel that, as "foreign objects," they were being slowly and resolutely "digested" by this space.

Inside the containment canister, the stone of silence was the only active "focus" in this gray, dead silence. Its core's silvery-white light pulsed with a stable, firm, and almost solemn rhythm; it was no longer flickering, but rather like a heart beating in the darkness, or a lonely lighthouse guiding to the final destination. It no longer released vague fragments of thought, but instead continuously radiated a clear, unquestionable, and explicitly directed "gravity"—approach that gate, use "Order" as the key, and initiate the final process.

Excellence's gaze moved with difficulty away from the gate that symbolized the ultimate unknown, sweeping across his companions. Stardust stood before the main console, her body taut as a bow; in her gray eyes, a golden stream of data rushed and washed with unprecedented density and speed. She was mobilizing all available computing resources, attempting to build even the simplest decision-making model on this land where physical laws had failed. Evelyn's spiritual projection presented an extremely condensed state, its light faint but stable, maintaining all its "sense of existence" on keeping the ship's basic functions and that ruthless countdown running. The mental fluctuations of White Elder were like the roots of an ancient tree submerged in the deep sea, no longer easily rippling, but deeply probing into the underlying layer of this "silence," silently perceiving those undercurrents that transcended conventional senses and were perhaps even more thrilling.

"The situation is clear," Excellence spoke, his voice producing a strange, metallic clarity in this environment where even sound seemed to be "absorbed," even sounding a bit harsh. "Time is the luxury we lack the most. Energy is the noose around our necks, and it is tightening. We have been brought by this stone to this... judgment seat of the universe. the watchers are gone, something behind the gate is knocking, and the 'Heart-Devouring Demon' outside might still be on its way." He paused, his gaze becoming as cold and hard as the giant gate outside the porthole, "We need a plan. Not a philosophical discussion, not a vague intention, but a concrete, clearly stepped solution that allows us to take action within three hours. First, we must decipher the final 'intent' of this stone. 'Activate,' 'approach,' then what? What exactly are the options on the 'Choice' menu? What are the respective costs?"

"Existing data is insufficient to infer the specific content and consequences of the 'Choice'," Stardust responded immediately, her voice the sharp blade of reason under extreme pressure. "The concepts of 'end' and 'continuation' it conveys are too grand; they might point to the open/closed state of this gate, the survival or destruction of the thing behind the gate, the structural changes of the 'Silent Corridor' or even the wider universe, or maybe... it just refers to the life and death of our team at this moment. The only certain core connection point is you, Excellence. Your power of 'Order' is a necessary condition to trigger everything that follows. Without you, this stone is just a rather special mineral here."

"And your power, kid," White Elder's voice sounded directly in the depths of Excellence's consciousness, distant and heavy, as if passing through thick rock layers, "has a... kinship with this place and that gate that I, an old man, can hardly describe. The 'silence' here is not a void of nothingness; it is the ultimate form presented after 'Order' has reached its end, having eliminated all 'variables' and 'noise'—a cold, absolute 'stasis' where all things have returned to their places. Your 'Order' is still between 'flow' and 'framework,' sharing the same source but a different phase from the 'silence' here. The glimmer in the gate's crack is the isolated, infinite 'change' and 'chaos'. You, perhaps, are the only possible... translator, or mediator, between this 'absolute silence' and that 'infinite movement'."

Excellence felt his heart give a heavy thump. The extreme of Order? The dead silence where all things return to their places? This perspective was like a cold bolt of lightning, splitting open some of his previous confusion. He had always regarded "Order" as a power of construction, maintenance, and bestowing meaning. But if the "Silent Corridor" represented a cold tomb where Order reached its end and strangled all possibilities... then what did his power mean here? Was it the key to open the tomb, or the incantation to awaken the silent things within?

"Evelyn," Excellence turned to the stable spiritual projection, "with our remaining energy, what kind of actions can we still support? A charge? An energy burst? Or... an attempt at communication?"

"Maintaining current suspension and minimum life support, remaining time: two hours and forty-six minutes." Evelyn's answer was precise to the second, without any emotional fluctuation. "Performing conventional engine maneuvers, energy consumption increases to 130%, remaining time shortens to about one hour and fifty-five minutes. Executing a medium-intensity directional energy projection (for example, activating a ship-bow searchlight-level energy beam at minimum power), energy consumption will jump to 280%, remaining time less than fifty minutes. Any action beyond basic maintenance will significantly compress our safety window. Once energy is completely depleted, the ship will become a part of this silent domain, with no possibility of self-rescue or waiting for help."

"In other words, not only can we not afford to lose, we can't even afford to 'move'." Excellence's brow knitted into a tight knot. "A war of attrition is suicide, big actions are accelerated suicide. What we need is a... 'energy-saving' solution, or even one that can 'borrow power' from the rules of this place."

"Commander, I have a theoretical model." Stardust suddenly turned around; the data stream in her eyes briefly calmed down, replaced by the Sharp Light of an analyst. "The 'stone of silence' requires you to 'activate' it with your power of 'Order', and then 'approach the gate'. This is likely a multi-step security protocol. The first step is 'identity authentication' and 'permission activation'. Assuming this gate and its associated systems are an extremely complex, extremely dangerous 'cosmic-level device', then the 'stone of silence' is the hardware key, and your power of 'Order' (or some unique 'imprint' contained within it) is the biological key. Only by combining the two can the device's 'user interface'—that is, the so-called 'Choice'—be safely started. We need to complete the 'login' first before we can see the 'operation menu'."

"Reasonable. But will the 'login' itself trigger a trap? Like opening the gate directly, or activating some defense mechanism?" Excellence pressed on, his fingers unconsciously tapping the edge of the console.

"Risk inevitably exists. But compared to waiting in place for energy depletion and having our consciousness assimilated by the silence field, which is a certain end, attempting to 'login' at least introduces 'variables'." Stardust's logic was cold and solid. "Moreover, synthesizing all previous behaviors of the 'stone of silence'—its absolute rejection of the 'Heart-Devouring Demon', its affinity for the power of 'Order', and its guidance for us to cross the 'Heart-Devouring Demon' pursuit to arrive here at any cost—it can be inferred that the design purpose of its underlying protocol is highly likely to deal with the threat of 'chaos' (represented by the 'Heart-Devouring Demon'). The 'login' process itself may contain a security check for 'chaos' contamination."

"I second that," White Elder's voice carried the wisdom of ages. "Although this stone is unfathomable, its essence of 'silence' is indeed the enemy of all 'chaos'. Leading you to this desperate place cannot be to achieve chaos. However, no one knows what the scene behind the gate is—whether it is a blessing or a curse, a gate of life or a death trap. Activating this key is like opening an ancient sealed altar; fortune and misfortune are unpredictable. However, sitting and waiting for death is ultimately not a good strategy."

silence descended again, but this time, it was thoughts that were boiling. Staying here meant a slow and certain demise. Taking a step forward meant stepping into a completely unknown, high-risk domain, but it might also contain a glimmer of hope, or even... an opportunity to solve the problem.

"Alright," Excellence's voice broke the silence, carrying a decisiveness. "We will follow this stone's 'process'. First complete 'activation', approach the gate, and see what options are on this 'operation menu'. But we cannot pin all our hopes on an unknown protocol. Evelyn, I need a final contingency plan—if at any stage during or after 'activation', the situation gets out of control, such as the gate suddenly opening to release unspeakable things, or an attack beyond our understanding descends, we must have the ability to escape immediately, even if it's just a death struggle!"

"Contingency protocol 'Annihilation Jump' is ready," Evelyn replied without a moment's hesitation. "Trigger condition: detection of an irresistible threat capable of instantly destroying the ship's structure or annihilating the crew's consciousness. Execution: overload all remaining energy cores and jump engines, forcibly tear the current spatial structure, and execute a chaotic jump with no preset coordinates and no path calculation. Success rate estimate: 9.7%. Side effects: 73% probability of the ship's structure disintegrating during the jump; survivors (if any) will appear in a completely unknown and potentially extremely dangerous spacetime region; this is a last resort."

9.7% success rate. A near-suicidal escape. But it was still a glimmer of hope, probability-wise, compared to waiting here to die.

"Stardust, your task is Eagle Eye. During and after the 'activation' process, I want you to capture every subtle change in the 'stone of silence', my power of 'Order', the surrounding environment, especially that giant gate, even data fluctuations you think are impossible. Senior 'White Elder', please act as our 'deep-sea probe', sensing any threats or revelations that might emerge from higher dimensions or deeper rules. And I," Excellence's gaze fell back to the containment canister radiating a stable pulse, "will be responsible for having a good 'talk' with this 'key'."

The division of labor was clear, like gears meshing in a precision instrument. Excellence walked to the workbench; the specially made containment canister stood quietly, the energy-guiding runes on the canister wall gleaming coldly in the ship's weak ambient light. He did not rashly open the canister—direct contact with this "silence core" of unknown state was too risky. He chose to trust the design of the canister.

He closed his eyes, cleared away all distracting thoughts, and adjusted his breathing to the longest and most even rhythm. At the center of his brow, a point of silvery-white light quietly lit up, at first like a bean, then immediately becoming solid and pure, as if it were a miniature star of Order. The life-and-death struggle with the "Greedy Aggregate" and the baptism of passing through the "Silent Corridor" had caused subtle and profound changes in his power of "Order". It was no longer just externalized energy or a defensive barrier, but closer to a pure extension of his will, a condensation on the reality level of his cognition and persistence regarding concepts like "laws," "balance," and "anchor of existence."

He cautiously injected a wisp of the purest, calmest "Order" power, carrying no intention of force or attack, like the gentlest tentacle extended from the soul, slowly into the guiding channel of the canister wall. This was not a command, not an activation, but more like a cautious "knock on the door," a "self-introduction" with an inquiry.

The power of "Order" touched the cold, absolutely silent silvery-white light inside the canister.

II. The Torrent of Information and Ancient Truths

Hum—!!!

The low tremor did not come from hearing, but acted directly on the base of his bones, internal organs, and even his soul! The entire special containment canister, along with the alloy workbench beneath it, emitted a clearly perceptible resonant ringing, creating a strange harmony with some underlying frequency of this "Silent Corridor" space!

The silvery-white light at the core of the "stone of silence" inside the canister surged instantly—not a blinding explosion, but a stable, scorching intensity that made one unable to look directly at it, like a supernova before its limit of expansion! The silvery luster that originally flowed slowly on its surface now turned into a boiling river of mercury, spinning, surging, and flashing crazily!

Immediately after, it was no longer fragments of information like a trickling stream. A torrent of information, so vast it was unimaginable, so complex it exceeded the limits of logic, and so ancient it carried the breath of the universe's birth, like a bursting galaxy, rushed into the deep sea of Excellence's consciousness along the connection of that "Order" power with an irresistible force!

This was not watching; this was "merging." This was not learning; this was "experiencing."

He "experienced" the birth of the "Silent Corridor"—not a creation, but a "buffer layer" and "interface" that naturally condensed when "movement" and "silence," "being" and "nothingness," "Order" and "chaos" first occurred on a large scale after a singularity that could not be measured by "time."

Countless "concepts of silence" representing "absolute stillness," "information zeroing," and "collapse of possibilities" spontaneously gathered, settled, and crystallized, forming this gray mirror-like substrate and those giant black crystals that served as stable Nodes.

This was a naturally formed, protective "eggshell," or a "lead wall" isolating deadly radiation.

He "understood" the true essence of "the gate"—it was not an entrance or an exit, but a "membrane," a "semi-permeable boundary," a "dialysis device on a cosmic scale." On one side of it lay the "Order" extreme represented by the "Silent Corridor," tending toward absolute entropy; on the other side lay the ineffable "Sea of Chaos." This was not the secondary chaos polluted by malice and erosive desire like the "Heart-Devouring Demon," but something more primordial, more neutral, and simultaneously more violent—the infinite, undifferentiated "possibility" itself, the "primordial soup" where all things were unborn, logic was unestablished, and time and space were still tangled and boiling. The function of this gate was to allow an extremely minute, relatively gentle amount of "chaos fluctuation" (which could be regarded as a primitive "creation impulse" or "seed" of change), filtered and moderated by the "Silent Corridor," to seep into the "Order" side of the universe, injecting vitality for evolution and life; at the same time, it fed back the excessive "structural rigidity" and "tendency toward heat death" (which could be regarded as a "decay impulse") generated on the "Order" side back into the "Sea of Chaos" to be dissolved. It was an exquisite, fragile, and vital bidirectional cosmic metabolism and equilibrium regulation system.

He "knew" the noble and lonely duty of "the watchers"—this existence, formed by the fusion of purer "silence" and a certain "regulating will" from the birth of the universe, was not a simple gatekeeper. It was the system's "regulating valve," the intelligent core of the "filter," the "Perception" sensor and "actuator" of balance. Using its own existence as a lever, it minutely regulated the permeability of "the gate," guided the flow and intensity of the "chaos tide," and carefully maintained the fragile yet great balance on both sides, allowing the "Order" universe to evolve infinite splendor on a stable foundation without being instantly overwhelmed by the violent "chaos." This was a job that required eternal focus, endless patience, and enormous consumption.

He "felt" the "silence" of "the watchers"—it was a deep "exhaustion" and "dispersion" after depletion. It had not been defeated by external force, but in countering an unprecedented "chaos surge," suspected to be intensified by external malice (some interference ripples similar to the energy characteristics of the "Heart-Devouring Demon," but older and more primitive, flashed through the information flow), it had exhausted the last primordial power to maintain its own "dynamic condensed state." Its "consciousness" had not perished, but like a diver exhausted to the limit, it had sunk to the "seabed" of the "Silent Corridor," dispersing into countless black crystals, falling into the deepest, near-eternal "static dormancy." Without its active, precise regulation, the filtering function of "the gate" began to decay and disorder, and the "tide" of the "Sea of Chaos" between the cracks of "the gate" was seeping through in an increasingly uncontrolled manner. If not intervened, the balance would continue to collapse, eventually leading to the erosion of the "Silent Corridor" and the failure of "the gate," triggering a catastrophic direct contact between the two realms.

Finally, a clear, complete, mechanically precise, and yet ancient and desolate "protocol option" appeared on his consciousness "screen":

"Identity verification passed. Confirmed as: Carbon-based intelligent lifeform carrying the primary "Order" Origin imprint. Meets minimum permissions to initiate 'temporary regulation protocol'."

"System status alert: Main regulation unit ("the watchers") offline, in deep stasis. Boundary membrane ("the gate") filtering efficiency dropped to critical threshold (41.7%). Chaos-side pressure continuing to rise slowly, detected abnormal perturbation harmonics (partially matches database characteristics of 'entropy-increasing deformity')."

"Available temporary response protocols are as follows:"

"Protocol Alpha (Extension/Repair): Using the authenticator's "Order" Origin as the guiding core, and this "silence" core unit ("stone of silence") as the energy relay and "Resonance" amplifier, attempt to gather and awaken the consciousness of the dissipated main regulation unit, or at least establish a temporary will link, partially restoring system regulation functions. Estimated success rate: Less than 12.8%. Main risk: Authenticator's consciousness may be drowned or assimilated by the massive static information flow of the main regulation unit, or permanently damaged by the "silence" force field during the origin linking process. Energy requirement: Extremely high."

"Protocol Beta (Purification/Sealing): Using the authenticator's "Order" Origin to drive this "silence" core unit, perform a high-intensity, focused '"silence" shock' on the boundary membrane ("the gate") and the surrounding "silence" field, forcibly annihilating the current infiltration point and reinforcing the boundary structure. Effect: Expected to restore filtering efficiency to 68% - 75%, duration approximately 0.5 to 3 local cosmic time cycles (depending on chaos-side pressure). Risk: Forced suppression may lead to local accumulation of chaos-side pressure, increasing the risk of subsequent larger-scale infiltration or boundary embrittlement. Energy requirement: High."

"Protocol Gamma (Reconstruction/Diversion): Using the authenticator's "Order" Origin as the core framework and this "silence" core unit as a stable anchor, attempt to establish a minute, controlled temporary 'rule siphon channel' with the "Sea of Chaos." Guide minute chaos fluctuations to perform controlled 'ordered sedimentation' in the 'rule incubation matrix' (composed of some black giant crystals) preset at the edge of the "Silent Corridor," generating new basic physical constant variants or information ground states, injecting controllable new evolutionary variables into the universe while diverting chaos-side pressure. Effect: Theoretically feasible, no precedent. Risk: Extremely high. Channel stability cannot be guaranteed, may lead to rule contamination, information-state plague, or unpredictable existential distortion. Energy requirement: Extremely high, and requires continuous maintenance."

"Protocol Delta (Termination/Isolation): Overload and detonate this "silence" core unit, triggering structural Resonance collapse of the local "Silent Corridor," completely destroying this boundary membrane and adjacent support structures. Consequences: This area will form a permanent 'absolute "silence" singularity' and 'rule information void', physical laws will completely fail here, effectively cutting off contact between the two realms. Risk: May trigger large-scale spacetime structural chain collapse or ripples, scope of impact unknown. Energy requirement: Medium (primarily relies on this unit's self-destruction energy release)."

"Please select and initiate a protocol before the local energy support system fails (approx: 164 standard minutes). The system will provide limited assistance."

"Note: After any protocol execution, the local temporary energy support system (referring to "ranger") is expected to be unable to maintain, please plan evacuation in advance."

The information flood slowly ebbed, leaving behind near-vacuum cognitive shock and mountain-heavy decision pressure. Excellence suddenly opened his eyes, his body swayed violently, his face turned pale as paper, large cold beads of sweat oozed from his forehead, and the veins at his temples throbbed. The brief information infusion just now had an information density and impact far exceeding any of his previous experiences. It was as if, in an instant, he had forcibly carried part of the operation manual and historical logs of a cosmic-level system with his tiny human consciousness.

"Excellence!" Stardust noticed his abnormality immediately, stepped forward, and her fingers quickly scanned his vital signs on the side of his neck, "Consciousness fluctuation is violent, neural load is overloaded! You need to rest!"

"No... I saw it... I understand..." Excellence waved his hand, enduring the dizziness and swelling pain at the soul level, panting rapidly, and relayed the key information he had just received—about the essence of the system, the truth of "the watchers," and the four cold protocols—to Stardust, Evelyn, and "White Elder" as quickly and clearly as possible.

The cabin fell into a "silence" deeper and more oppressive than the "Silent Corridor" outside. Only the faint, inaudible running sound of the spaceship system and the suppressed breathing of everyone could be heard.

"...The umbilical cord of cosmic metabolism... "the watchers" are the spirits of regulation... the "Sea of Chaos" is the primordial soup..." "White Elder"'s mental fluctuation showed obvious tremors for the first time, which was the agitation generated when the cognitive boundary was forcibly expanded, "How... how magnificent! And how fragile! This is not the safety of one domain or one gate, but... the foundation upon which all living things depend for survival is shaking!"

"Four protocols..." Stardust's voice lost its usual absolute calmness, carrying a hint of near-awe difficulty. The data stream in her eyes had stopped; clearly, the recent information shock had also challenged her highly rational thinking mode. "Alpha is attempting to repair the core, with the highest risk and the slimmest hope, but if it succeeds, it's a permanent solution. Beta is conservative treatment, temporarily plugging leaks, but may worsen the condition. Gamma is radical surgery, attempting to establish a new equilibrium channel, theoretically the most forward-looking, but practical operation is equivalent to walking a tightrope as a blind person. Delta is... amputation. Permanently destroying local functions in exchange for absolute isolation, but the sequelae are unknown, and essentially it is giving up treatment."

"Energy assessment update," Evelyn's voice inserted in time, pulling everyone back from the grand shock to the cruel reality, "Executing any protocol will accelerate the depletion of the spaceship's energy. Protocols Alpha and Gamma are estimated to directly lead to energy exhaustion before or at the moment the protocol is completed. Protocol Beta may leave a buffer of a few minutes. Protocol Delta has the lowest dependence on the spaceship's energy. After executing any protocol, the success rate of initiating the 'silence Jump' will further drop to the 3% - 5% range."

"We need to assess feasibility immediately!" Excellence forced himself to break free from the dizziness of information, the gears of his mind creaking under the pressure, "Stardust, with our current conditions—my state, the spaceship's energy, the stability of the "stone of silence", and your instantaneous understanding of the principles of these protocols—which plan has even a glimmer of success? Evelyn, simulate after executing different protocols, can we still, even for a split second, execute that damn 'silence Jump'? Senior "White Elder", from the 'momentum' you sense, which choice might cause the least damage to this... 'system'? Or rather, which one conforms more to the flow of the 'Dao'?"

"Energy and structure simulation running..." Evelyn responded first, "The probability of energy exhaustion during the execution of Protocol Alpha/Gamma is greater than 90%. After execution, there is a 'window period' of about 2-4 minutes to initiate the 'silence Jump'. Protocol Delta can trigger the jump simultaneously with execution, the window is relatively the 'widest', but the uncertainty of the environment after escaping is the greatest."

"Protocol analysis..." Stardust rubbed her eyebrows hard, as if to relieve a non-existent headache, "Protocol Alpha: Technical black box. We have no idea how to 'gather and awaken' a dissipated cosmic-level consciousness, the success rate data may be too optimistic. Protocol Beta: Principle is relatively intuitive (high-intensity "silence" force field shock), but the specific technical details of 'forced annihilation' and 'reinforcement' are unknown, and it treats the symptoms but not the root cause. Protocol Gamma: Most imaginative, but also the craziest. Establish a 'rule siphon channel'? We don't even know how to build the channel, how to control the flow, or how the 'rule incubation matrix' works. Protocol Delta: Simple and brutal, serious consequences but 'thorough'. With current information, reliable technical feasibility ranking cannot be performed. Real-time diagnostic data on the specific mode of current 'chaos infiltration', the 'dissipated state of "the watchers"' consciousness', and the 'structural integrity of the "Silent Corridor"' is needed."

"Dao..." "White Elder" was silent for a longer time, his spirit seemed to truly sink into the "marrow" of this space to perceive, "The 'Dao' here is the balance of movement and stillness, the opportunity of life and death. Protocol Delta, cutting off the flow and source, is like cutting flesh to patch a sore; although it stops the bleeding for a moment, the vitality is also cut off, not a long-term solution. Protocol Beta, blocking without dredging, is like building a dam to stop a flood; the water level will only get higher, and eventually it will collapse. Protocol Gamma, diverting the flood for dredging, although the intent is high, the water potential is unpredictable, and the newly formed dredging channel may cause a greater disaster. Protocol Alpha, restoring the root, pointing directly to the crux, but... the patient is already critical, the medicine for restoration is as fierce as thunder, and the patient (referring to you, the authenticator) and the doctor (referring to us) may not be able to bear the weight... Kid, this is not something this old man can decide. This is a game of 'Heaven', and the one holding the piece is you. The 'Order' your heart points to, is it dead rules, or the cycle of life? The answer to this question may be the basis for the choice."

The original heart? The true meaning of "Order"? Excellence felt his thinking tearing violently between the four cold options and the questioning of "White Elder". Dead "Order" is the ultimate "silence" of this "Silent Corridor", the end of all things. Living "Order" requires change, requires that thread of dangerous and unruly "living water" from the "Sea of Chaos".

Severing (Delta) is heading toward absolute "silence". Blocking (Beta) is delaying the arrival of death. Risking a connection (Gamma) may bring new life, or may trigger an uncontrollable cancer.

Then, perhaps...

"Perhaps... we can try a hybrid strategy," Excellence's voice was a bit hoarse, but his eyes gradually gathered a sharpness of burning bridges, "Not fully executing any one protocol. First, with the lowest limit, execute the first step of Protocol Alpha—not 'awakening', but 'probing'. Use my power of "Order", through the "stone of silence" as a relay and buffer, to gently 'touch' and 'scan' the state of "the watchers"' consciousness dissipated in the crystals, just like a doctor using the most minute current to probe the nerve response of a comatose patient. We are not asking to awaken, only to obtain key diagnostic data: To what extent have "the watchers" 'fallen silent'? Is there any possibility of gathering? What is the specific pattern of the 'chaos pressure' on the other side of "the gate"? These real-time data are far more reliable than our groundless guesses. After getting the data, we will decide whether to try Beta for emergency repair, or... consider more radical or desperate plans."

"Progressive diagnostic contact?" Stardust's eyes lit up with the light of analysis again, "Lower the initial energy output and consciousness link depth, dispersing the risk. Use "Order" "Resonance" as a probe, "stone of silence" as an insulation layer and signal amplifier, and attempt to establish a low-bandwidth, non-intrusive data exchange with the "silence" field itself, or with the potential residual information echoes of "the watchers" within it. This is more flexible than directly executing high-risk protocols, and also... a bit safer. But the risk still exists, your consciousness may be impacted by the massive 'historical information' contained in the "silence" field, or gradually assimilated by the keynote of "silence" during low-frequency "Resonance"."

"It's worth the risk." Excellence nodded, looking at the "stone of silence" in the container whose light had returned to stability but was still burning, "And, I feel... it seems to also 'expect' some deeper 'interaction', rather than just being a trigger switch. Those protocols are like preset emergency programs. And what we need now is the 'right to know'."

"Good." The voice of "White Elder" carried approval and a deep sense of entrustment, "This old man will anchor the core of your spirit. If you feel signs of consciousness sinking, even if I have to sacrifice this wisp of remnant spirit, I will pull you back to reality. Stardust, Evelyn, prepare to record all abnormal readings, and keep the 'silence Jump' in the highest standby trigger state."

"Understood." Stardust and Evelyn responded simultaneously, and the atmosphere in the cabin suddenly tightened to the extreme.

The plan was set. Excellence stood firmly in front of the containment canister again and closed his eyes. This time, he did not inject power, but first calmed himself down completely, letting his breathing, heartbeat, and even the fluctuations of his thinking slow down as much as possible, to get close to the rhythm of the omnipresent "silence" of this "Silent Corridor".

What he was trying was not "starting a protocol", but "requesting access".

In the name of "Order", request access to this ancient system log.

With the thought of existence, gently knock on the door of that sleeping spirit.
