Chapter 184: Every Hands On Deck
Day 2: Earth Unites
The truth, once a carefully guarded secret, had detonated across the globe. With the Krill fleet a mere 24 hours away, the old world order crumbled, replaced by a desperate, unprecedented unity forged in the fires of existential threat.
The digital globe in the center of the room, usually displaying national borders, now showed a single, unified blue sphere. General Mark Dempsey, his face gaunt but his eyes burning with a newfound purpose, addressed the assembled military and political leaders from across the planet. The room, once exclusive to the U.S. Joint Chiefs, now hosted a mosaic of uniforms and flags, all subsumed under a new, stark banner: the United Earth Defense Pact (UEDP). NATO, CSTO, and countless smaller military alliances had dissolved, their former rivalries rendered meaningless by the alien threat.
"Gentlemen, ladies," Dempsey’s voice resonated, amplified across secure global channels, "the old lines are gone. The Krill have seen to that. We are no longer Americans, Russians, Chinese, Europeans, Indians. We are Earth. And we will fight as one."
Beside him, a stern-faced Chinese General, a veteran of the PLA, nodded. "Our Chairman concurs. All resources, all personnel, are now under the direct command of this planetary war council."
From Moscow, Premier Vladimir Putin’s image flickered onto a side screen, his gaze unwavering. "The Motherland offers its full strategic depth. Our nuclear arsenal remains active, a final deterrent against any attempt to sterilize this planet before we can fight. But our primary focus is defense. Our technology, our data, is now shared without reservation."
President Barack Obama, appearing from a secure bunker location, his voice calm amidst the storm, added, "The United States pledges its full support. Our Doomsday bunkers are activated, ensuring continuity of government. NASA and DoD are coordinating to weaponize every satellite, every piece of orbital debris. We will turn the very space around our planet into a minefield."
The planetary war council, a patchwork of former adversaries, began to function with chilling efficiency. Scientists, their faces pale but alight with intellectual fervor, sat alongside grizzled generals and weary political leaders, all focused on a singular objective: survival.
Across the world, martial law was declared in countless nations. The streets, once choked with truth riots, were now patrolled by soldiers, their presence a stark reminder of the new reality. Massive conscription efforts began, not just for combat, but for civil defense, first aid, and labor roles. Citizens, many still reeling from the revelations, lined up, their fear tempered by a desperate desire to contribute.
In a joint global broadcast, religious leaders from across the spectrum—the Pope, imams, rabbis, Buddhist monks, Hindu gurus—stood together in St. Peter’s Square, their faces etched with solemnity. Their unified message, translated into every language, urged peace, faith, and unity in the face of the encroaching darkness.
"Let not this crisis divide us further," the Pope’s voice, amplified globally, resonated with a profound spiritual authority. "Let us find strength in our shared humanity, in our common faith in a higher purpose. We pray for courage, for wisdom, and for the unity of all mankind."
Yet, even in this moment of desperate unity, dissent festered. Some fringe cults, their prophecies seemingly fulfilled by the Krill’s arrival, claimed the aliens were gods, or judgment incarnate. In isolated regions, panic and violence increased as these cults, often heavily armed, attempted to "purify" themselves or sacrifice to their new, terrifying deities.
Meanwhile, deep within the Amazon, the surface entrance to Richard’s base, at the heart of the now glowing rainforest, was a scene of organized chaos. Vehicles lined up, a strange mix of military transports, civilian cars, and even repurposed cartel trucks. Local government officials, military personnel, and former cartel members, now unified under Nicolau’s grim command, worked side-by-side with terrified citizens. All hung around in anticipation of the invasion, their faces a mixture of fear and dawning hope.
Richard, having momentarily compressed his radiant aura, was busy directing the influx. Nicolau and his Commando Vermelho, now numbering fifteen thousand battle-hardened men, had just arrived at the base, their faces grim but resolute. They moved with practiced efficiency, directing the flow of civilians and supplies. The families of the soon-to-be Spartans, their eyes wide with a mixture of fear and awe at the advanced technology surrounding them, were being attended to by the android staff, who meticulously secured their belongings and guided them deeper into the subterranean levels.
The vast simulation bay hummed with activity. Recruits slowly lined up for the training simulation pods. Their faces, though tired, held a fierce determination. They were still in awe of the advanced technology of the base—the seamless walls, the silent androids, the sheer scale of the underground complex—but there was no time to be wasted on wonder. Every second counted.
Richard’s voice, calm and clear, cut through the hum of the machinery. "Lina, what’s the fastest time for the first batch of Spartans to finish training?"
"Sir, the 1st Spartan Regiment, consisting of the 1st to 5th Spartan Battalions, can be accelerated to finish their core combat training in seven days," Lina replied, her avatar appearing beside him, a holographic timeline shimmering into existence. "Unfortunately, if we were to rush their genetic transformation beyond the current parameters, it would cause severe genetic instability. The simulations are running at a time compression of 1:1,252. As soon as their genetic modifications are complete, their training would finish, and they will be ready for deployment."
"That’s fine," Richard said, nodding. "Prepare the android fleet as a quick reaction force. They’ll be our first line of defense in the atmosphere."
"Yes, sir," Lina acknowledged.
On Level -4, the massive hangar bay stretched into the darkness, filled with the imposing silhouettes of ten DSTR - Meteor Class Destroyers. These sleek, black starships, each crewed with android marines ready for ground deployment, were lined up, their engines glowing faintly, pointed towards their designated ports that ascended under the coastline in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Richard watched the destroyers with a critical eye. "What about the planetary defense systems, Lina? Are they ready?"
"Our planetary defense systems are at full operational readiness, sir," Lina confirmed. "The Cerberus Mass Driver Cannon arrays and their projectiles have been modified with two-stage deployment for anti-shield or anti-armor piercing. The SKYWALL MK. X High-Altitude Smart Missile Systems have been deployed and modified for anti-gravity distortion fields, also with two stages for anti-shields/anti-armor, armed with High-Explosive Fusion Bombs and Aetheris PCX-9."
She continued, "The Aetheris PCX-9 is a modular, high-efficiency point-defense system developed to intercept and annihilate hypersonic projectiles, missiles, rail-pods, swarm drones, and orbital drops before impact. It fires ultra-compressed plasma bolts at velocities exceeding Mach 12, guided and timed with precision by a combat-dedicated AI sensor mesh. And our Mass Launch Pod System is ready for quick and tactical insertion of Spartans or Android Marines, with built-in inertial field dampeners to counter high-Gs and AI-guided sensor systems, ranging up to ten thousand kilometers."
"Good," Richard said, a satisfied hum in his voice. "We need more android marine reserves, as well as android navy fleets, just in case."
"Yes, sir," Lina replied. "In case you didn’t know, sir, and I suggest it only for emergencies, there’s also the WDC-0X, or the Warp Driver Cannon. It is not a conventional kinetic or energy weapon—it is a spatial weapon that uses localized warp field manipulation to tear, collapse, or displace space-time itself around a target. Rather than ’firing’ a projectile, it generates a space-time shear or graviton puncture event at a fixed distance, effectively weaponizing the geometry of the universe."
Richard’s eyes widened slightly. "That’s quite a dangerous weapon there," he mused, a flicker of awe in his gaze. "But I’ll add it to my options. A last resort, indeed." He then asked, a softer note entering his voice, "What about the folks back home? Are they safe?"
"Yes, sir," Lina confirmed, a holographic map of the Philippines appearing. "The underground base there already accommodated to full capacity with recent evacuation efforts in the Philippines. I’ve locked levels -2 and -3, except for Sir Jack and Sir Estello to use. Shall I deploy android marines there as well?"
Richard nodded. "Yes. Even if we can’t accommodate all citizens, we need to at least show a force that can protect Marawi City. It’s a symbol."
Lina then added, "Sir, Sir Estello is requesting an acquisition of plasma weapons and gear and supplies for the resistance force."
"Give it to them," Richard said without hesitation. "It is no time to be greedy. Every human fighting is an asset."
"And, the local government of Brazil is requesting assistance," Lina informed him.
"How many gear sets do we have available?" Richard asked.
"We have 100,013 STANDARD ISSUE LIGHT GEAR KITS with SPX-88 plasma rifles and BMk-2 armor, Titanium-weave composite reinforced with ceramic strike plates," Lina reported.
"Distribute them," Richard commanded. "Among local government forces, military, police, even gang members. Anyone who knows how to shoot. This is humanity’s fight, and we need every hands on deck."
