Officer Shen: Why is it always you?

“Young man, did your delivery go missing?”

The old man seemed to whisper to Xu Ning, as if feigning mystery.

Xu Ning nodded; he felt that this old man very likely knew something.

After all, the elderly are the strongest intelligence agency; if you need to know anything, asking them is always the right choice.

“Young man, let me tell you, I’ve seen several Delivery Riders come looking these past few days!”

“Guess what’s going on?”

The old man built suspense, with an expression that said, “I know everything, hurry up and ask me.”

Because of his work with property management over the past two months, Xu Ning was used to dealing with the elderly, so he was accustomed to their mannerisms.

So, like a straight man in a comedy duo, he humbly asked, “Then what’s going on?”

The old man became excited and leaned a little closer to Xu Ning.

“I’ll tell you!”

“Both units on this floor belong to Old Man Liu, but Old Man Liu doesn’t live here; he rents them out.”

“The unit on the left is currently empty, not rented out yet.”

“The unit on the right was just rented out, and three Mentally ill young mans are living there.”

“I’ve been observing for several days; these three young men don’t seem like decent people.”

“Every mealtime, they order takeout, and when the Delivery Rider delivers it, they knock on the door of the left unit, and of course, no one answers!”

“Then I saw the Delivery Rider place the takeout at the door of the left unit.”

“After the Delivery Rider left, the young men would come out from the right unit, take the takeout from the left, and go back inside.”

“A little while later, the Delivery Rider would come back to retrieve the takeout, still knocking on the left door, and still no one would answer!”

“Although I don’t understand the ins and outs of food delivery, I bet those three are up to no good!”

The old man spoke with a confident tone, his wise eyes seemingly seeing through everything.

Xu Ning nodded thoughtfully; he had to admit, the older one gets, the wiser one becomes—this old man saw things very clearly!

Perhaps the old man didn’t understand the intricacies of food delivery, but Xu Ning was a Delivery Rider now, so he certainly did.

The three young men lived on the right, but when they ordered takeout, they filled in the address for the unit on the left.

When the Delivery Rider arrived with the food, no one would open the door, and a phone call would instruct him to leave it at the door, so the Delivery Rider would place it at the left unit’s door.

After the Delivery Rider left, they, living on the right, would come out to get the takeout, and then apply for a refund, claiming they never received it.

The merchant would definitely have the Delivery Rider handle it, as the meal was picked up by the Delivery Rider.

When the Delivery Rider returned to check, he certainly wouldn't find the meal.

The merchant had no choice but to accept the loss!

Of course, they could investigate thoroughly, but restaurants are too busy to spare the time and effort to quibble over a single meal.

The situation was now very clear: these three young men were maliciously canceling orders.

“Grandpa, I understand what’s going on now, thank you for the tip!” Xu Ning said with a smile to the old man.

The old man chuckled, put his hands behind his back, and went downstairs, probably to brag to his other old friends.

Xu Ning took out his phone and called the merchant.

Now that he understood the situation, informing the merchant was enough; how they chose to handle it afterward was the merchant’s business.

But just then, another Delivery Rider came up from downstairs, carrying a takeout order.

Xu Ning recognized him; he was a Delivery Rider from the same station, and they had chatted before.

“Oh, you’re delivering too?”

“Which one?”

The Delivery Rider was a few years older than Xu Ning and greeted him with a smile.

Xu Ning looked at the meal in his hand and asked with a slightly strange expression, “You’re not delivering to the left unit on the third floor, are you?”

The Delivery Rider smiled and nodded, “Yeah, what a coincidence, are you delivering to them too?”

Xu Ning narrowed his eyes and stopped the Delivery Rider who was about to continue walking up.

“Then I suggest you don’t deliver it.”

“Of course, you can try, but no one will open the door when you knock.”

“When you call, they’ll tell you to leave it at the door.”

“And then, they’ll apply for a refund.”

Xu Ning didn’t even need to explain much, as the other person was already an experienced Delivery Rider and had encountered all sorts of situations.

Hearing Xu Ning say this, he immediately understood.

“Malicious refund?”

He had similar experience in handling such matters; the Delivery Rider immediately called the merchant to explain the suspected situation.

The merchant on the other end of the line sounded helpless.

You haven’t even delivered the meal yet, and you’re saying the customer will definitely cancel the order?

Isn’t that a baseless accusation?

And just then, Xu Ning’s phone rang.

It was the merchant for his current order.

“You’re still there, right?”

“Then please wait a moment; I’ve already called the Police Officer, and I’m also on my way to you.”

“Today, I must deal with these scoundrels!”

Xu Ning couldn't help but be utterly stunned, not expecting the merchant to take it so seriously—not only was he coming himself, but he had also called the Police Officer.

After the initial shock, he felt a bit of admiration.

Even if it hurt his own business, he was determined to deal with those scoundrels; he could be considered a “judge.”

And rightly so, if they weren't dealt with today or tomorrow, if they were always let off the hook, there would always be victims.

Xu Ning still had a strong sense of justice, so he smiled, agreed, and waited there.

Meanwhile, the other Delivery Rider beside him also finished his call with the merchant, his expression helpless.

Because the merchant still told him to proceed with the delivery as normal.

“Then wait a moment, the Police Officer will be here soon; let’s see if we can catch them red-handed with the meal you have!”

Xu Ning stopped him, thinking that the takeout in his hand would be a very good fishing tool.

“I can’t, I have another urgent order to deliver, and if I don’t leave now, I’ll be late.” The Delivery Rider looked troubled.

“Then give me your takeout, and you go!” Xu Ning said with a smile.

The Delivery Rider was greatly moved, handed the takeout to Xu Ning, thanked him, and left.

Xu Ning didn’t wait too long before the merchant and the Police Officer arrived.

The Police Officer who came was Officer Shen, and Xu Ning couldn’t help but smile.

It seemed he and Officer Shen were fated, just like Wang Xudong, seeing each other every day.

Officer Shen, however, was completely speechless, questioning his entire existence.

Why is it always you?

He was almost numb to it by now.

He would probably only find it strange if one day he responded to a call and didn’t see Xu Ning.

“That’s the situation; what should we do?”

The merchant had called the Police Officer and explained the situation to Officer Shen again at the scene.

Officer Shen also looked very troubled.

What if the other party didn’t open the door?

They couldn’t just force their way in and search because of a takeout order, could they?

At this moment, Xu Ning moved, raising the takeout in his hand.

“This is another takeout order they placed; what if I deliver it normally and we catch them red-handed?”

Hearing Xu Ning’s words, Officer Shen’s eyes lit up.

What a good idea!

Setting aside all the miscellaneous things about Xu Ning, he actually had a good detective mind and was cut out to be a Police Officer.
