123: Thank them for their hard work
The meeting application had been submitted to the Nanyun District Detention Center once again.
Lawyer meetings have improved significantly compared to before; in the past, you'd have to wait endlessly, and if they said you couldn't meet, you simply couldn't.
Reason? They'd find any reason, just to prevent you from meeting.
The legal profession is inherently about finding fault, so it's normal not to be well-regarded.
Even now, some places remain the same; they are happy to see legal aid lawyers but uncomfortable with private lawyers.
Moreover, some case handlers would even advise suspects and their families, "There are free legal aid lawyers available, why are you spending money?"
Why this attitude? It's simple: because legal aid lawyers are obedient.
It's not that all legal aid lawyers are obedient, but most of the time, legal aid lawyers cooperate in going through the motions.
Some legal aid lawyers have even been called "the second prosecutor."
This time, the meeting approval was still very fast, taking only one day before the Detention Center called Zhou Yun, allowing him to meet.
At 3 PM, inside the room at the entrance of the Nanyun District Detention Center, several lawyers were waiting for their meetings.
This situation is common because, as mentioned before, the Detention Center's meeting rooms are single-occupancy and limited in number.
Therefore, if many people need to meet on a certain day, they have to queue.
Just then, the room door was pushed open, and a handsome young man walked in carrying a bag.
Before the other lawyers could react, a Police Officer from the Detention Center stepped forward with a smile and said, "Lawyer Zhou is here. Still the interrogation room?"
Zhou Yun nodded, "The interrogation room it is. Looking at the current situation, the meeting rooms must be full."
As he spoke, he hung his bag on the side very familiarly, as if he had arrived home.
Then he followed the Police Officer inside.
The other lawyers were stunned by this display. This... is this still a lawyer?
The key is that he didn't even try to be discreet; even those influential lawyers with connections wouldn't act like this!
Finally, someone spoke, "Who is that, so arrogant?"
Another lawyer hesitated and said, "It seems to be Lawyer Zhou Yun from Zhengtian Law Firm. I saw him once before..."
So it was Zhou Yun. Hearing that name, the other lawyers stopped talking.
If it was Zhou Yun, then this behavior seemed quite normal; after all, it was Zhou Yun!
Many colleagues indeed disliked Zhou Yun, but their dislike was useless; his status was already established.
Zhou Yun naturally didn't care about these things. Most lawyers didn't want to go to the interrogation room, but he didn't mind.
Let them listen; it's useless anyway, as the Court makes the final judgment.
Inside the interrogation room, Zhang Yunfan sat on the regret chair, extremely nervous. Although the correctional Police Officer said it was a lawyer meeting, he couldn't help but feel anxious.
Just sitting on that chair, with its icy touch, anyone would be nervous.
Fortunately, when the door opened, it was Zhou Yun who entered, which made him sigh in relief.
"What, nervous? No need to be nervous, you'll get used to this chair after sitting on it for a while." Zhou Yun sat down and smiled, "I'm mainly here to ask you a few questions."
As he spoke, Zhou Yun pulled out his notebook and said, "First question: How was your relationship with your wife in the month after the affair was exposed?"
Zhang Yunfan sighed upon hearing this, "Lawyer Zhou, after something like that happened, there's no way we could get along."
"We argued as soon as we got back, and then I said I wanted a divorce."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yun's face showed interest, "So, did you divorce?"
Zhang Yunfan shook his head, "No, she said the child was still young and asked me to consider the child. I definitely wouldn't consider it, so we argued every day."
Zhou Yun was noncommittal, but the interest on his face grew stronger.
After noting everything down, Zhou Yun spoke again, "Second question: How was your mental state after the affair was exposed?"
Hearing this, Zhang Yunfan gave a bitter smile and said, "Lawyer Zhou, in the time before I came in, I hadn't slept a full night. I suffered from insomnia every night."
"When I closed my eyes, all I could see was their mess. How many people, do you think, can understand something like that?"
Zhou Yun recorded these words one by one, then said, "Okay, third question..."
After asking several questions consecutively, Zhou Yun stood up and spoke to the camera nearby, "Is there any Comrade watching? Please come in and help confirm."
About two minutes later, a correctional Police Officer walked in and smiled, "Lawyer Zhou, I wasn't intentionally watching..."
Zhou Yun waved his hand, "It's fine, these are minor things. Now, I've just taken some notes, which I plan to use as evidence for the civil lawsuit, so he needs to sign them."
"And there's also the civil power of attorney, which he also needs to sign."
This isn't pointless; there are regulations: lawyers, during meetings, are not allowed to privately pass cigarettes, medicine, letters, notes, etc., to detainees without the Detention Center's consent.
In essence, it means that defense lawyers are not allowed to have any private contact with detainees.
Normally, there's no need for contact, but when necessary, such as handing over a cigarette or signing a power of attorney during the first meeting, it requires the Detention Center's approval.
The correctional Police Officer took the documents and looked at them, a little curious, "Lawyer Zhou, is this for a civil lawsuit as well?"
Zhou Yun said naturally, "Yes, after all, after what happened, it's one thing to return the ill-gotten gains, but his wife's side needs an explanation, right?"
That's true. The Police Officer didn't say anything, took the papers, and had Zhang Yunfan sign them.
Zhang Yunfan was a bit confused, but he knew that Lawyer Zhou would never harm him.
His reputation was truly built on one case after another.
After signing, Zhou Yun left with the documents, without offering any further comfort.
Upon reaching the empty room, the other lawyers were still waiting. Zhou Yun went forward, picked up his bag, and casually remarked, "You gentlemen might also try the interrogation room; the conditions are quite good."
Watching the handsome young man leave, the lawyers exchanged glances.
With the power of attorney, Zhou Yun didn't return to the law firm but went directly to the Nanyun District Court. Before coming, he had already prepared the complaint and evidence.
Or rather, the evidence for this case was too simple because the Comrades from the Nanyun District Public Security Bureau had already prepared the evidence, and the Comrades from the Procuratorate had even organized it once more...
Why? The strictness of evidence in criminal cases is far higher than in civil cases.
To prove extortion, it must be proven that there was a threat, and the reasons for that threat must be listed in the criminal evidence.
Thanks to their hard work, civil servants, you know, don't work overtime.
As for other things, case information cannot be disclosed during the review and prosecution stage, but that depends on who it is.
Just say that this case involves personal privacy and will not be publicly heard, and that's fine. It's okay for Court personnel to know; there's nothing wrong with it.
Twenty minutes later, Zhou Yun arrived at the Nanyun District Court. This was his first time here.
The case filing hall was similar to Jingnan District, with queue numbers and waiting. After about half an hour, it was finally his turn.
Then Zhou Yun handed the relevant evidence materials to the window.
What evidence is needed for an infringement damages case? First, you need to specify who committed the infringement.
This is easy; Zhang Yunfan's wife and Liu Jiayu's identity information are available.
Secondly, you need to prove how the infringement occurred and what right was infringed. This is also easy; the Procuratorate has already handled it. Look at that video, look at the witness testimonies; those two are linked, which is literally joint infringement...
The infringed right is naturally the spousal right.
Finally, many people overlook one point: infringement damages must have a resulting harm, meaning what kind of losses the infringement caused you, based on which compensation can be claimed.
Inside the window, the staff member looked at the documents in their hand, then at the man in front of them, and suddenly said, "Are you Lawyer Zhou Yun?"
