122: Chapter 122 Liu Shishi's Rambling Mode

Lin Chen didn't press the answer button immediately; instead, he turned to look at Guli Nazha.

Guli Nazha pursed her red lips and lifted her chin with a haughty air: "Don't try to give me looks; it won't work. I'm going to eavesdrop right here."

After she finished speaking, she pressed her face directly against Lin Chen's shoulder, looking like a stubborn pig unbothered by boiling water, showing absolutely no intention of moving.

Helpless, Lin Chen could only free one hand to wrap around her slender waist, which could be encircled by a single hand, and used the other to swipe the answer button.

"Hubby, I miss you~"

As soon as the call connected, Liu Shishi's crisp voice, laced with thick coquettishness, came through the receiver.

Guli Nazha subconsciously curled her lip, jealousy rising, and rubbed her little head against Lin Chen's neck, deliberately making a mess.

It wasn't until Lin Chen gave her a slap on her firm, rounded bottom that she finally settled down.

"I miss you too. When are you coming back to the capital?" Lin Chen asked with a smile.

"The flight is at 7:25 tomorrow morning, landing around 9:30. If you're busy, don't bother coming to pick me up."

Liu Shishi sounded understanding on the surface, but in reality, she was crazily hinting for Lin Chen to come pick her up between the lines.

Lin Chen was amused by her insincere little act and deliberately dragged out his tone to tease her: "I'm actually tied up tomorrow morning. How about I have the driver pick you up instead?"

The other end of the phone instantly fell into a dead silence.

Across thousands of kilometers of radio waves, Lin Chen could clearly feel her disappointment; he guessed her little mouth was probably pouted enough to hang an oil bottle on it by now.

"Alright, I'm just teasing you. I'll be waiting for you at the arrival gate on time tomorrow morning."

"You're hateful! You big bad guy!" Liu Shishi's voice instantly turned from overcast to sunny, sweet enough to pull threads.

"Hubby, you have no idea how agonizing these last two days in Hong Kong have been. It's as hot as a steamer, and I have to run to several promotional events every day, smiling foolishly at the camera until my face is almost stiff. Plus, those hosts are so snarky, and I can't even catch some of their references..."

Following this, Liu Shishi entered a rambling mode.

From how many events she ran to each day and who she met, to how terrible the hotel breakfast was and how crowded the streets of Hong Kong were.

She even reported the trivial, private matters, like having her assistant go downstairs in the middle of the night to buy sanitary pads, to Lin Chen in great detail.

It was as if she wanted to replay every detail of the past few days in Lin Chen's mind, frame by frame.

Lin Chen didn't show a hint of impatience; instead, he listened quietly with a smile on his face.

In fact, this kind of seemingly nutritional-less chatter was precisely the most authentic, down-to-earth essence of married life.

"Actually, the exhaustion from the promotions is one thing. But I've discovered that the entertainment industry scene over there in Hong Kong has some issues. Of course, I'm not painting everyone with the same brush, but there really is a small group of people with extremely twisted mentalities."

After rambling for a long time, Liu Shishi suddenly changed the subject, her tone becoming somewhat indignant.

Lin Chen laughed: "Are you there to run promotions or to inspect the local social conditions? Why has it escalated to a matter of character?"

Liu Shishi said indignantly: "It's just very obvious! Back when I was in the mainland, I dealt with quite a few Hong Kong artists and worked on several dramas with them; back then, I thought everyone was quite easygoing."

"But this time, when I went to their turf, that feeling completely changed. There's a small group of local artists who are so arrogant that their nostrils are pointed at the sky, and everything they say reeks of a sense of superiority, being extremely xenophobic."

"The funniest part is, these people have neither acting skills nor box-office appeal; they're all just washed-up, has-been D-listers. I really don't know where they get the confidence to act like big shots!"

"But there are good ones too. I ran into Heavenly King Liu at a banquet yesterday. With his status, not only did he have zero airs, but he even specifically came over to greet me, very gentlemanly. By the way, Hubby, do you know anything about watches? Do you prefer Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin?"

Liu Shishi's topic jumped too drastically; one second she was denouncing the bad atmosphere of the entertainment industry, and the next she switched to luxury watches.

If it were an average person, they would probably just think she was chatting aimlessly.

But Lin Chen keenly captured the subtext in her words.

Lin Chen frowned slightly, his tone dropping: "Did you get bullied over there? Did someone give you a hard time?"

"Bullied? No."

"If you weren't bullied, how do you know they look down on mainland artists?"

"Oh, I overheard it in the restroom!"

Lin Chen rubbed his temples, speechless, and sighed: "When will you ever fix this habit of eavesdropping? I really should spank you. You think you're in the right for eavesdropping on others?"

"I didn't do it on purpose!"

Hearing the reproach in Lin Chen's tone, Liu Shishi's voice immediately softened, carrying a bit of timid grievance: "We were doing activities at the mall, and the backstage lounge was just temporarily partitioned with thin wooden boards; it wasn't soundproof at all."

"Those Hong Kong actresses were whispering in Cantonese next door. Although I couldn't understand the whole thing, I could still understand those words belittling mainlanders... Hubby, I was wrong, I won't eavesdrop anymore in the future."

"Stay out of other people's business in the future. You're a girl out there, in an unfamiliar place; what if you provoke some local thugs and get the short end of the stick? If there's anything, wait until you get back to talk about it." Lin Chen warned in a deep voice.

"Got it!" Liu Shishi agreed obediently, then her voice became cheerful again: "So, Hubby, you still haven't answered me; do you prefer Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin?"

Lin Chen reached out to hold down Gulnazar, who was still gently biting his earlobe, and said irritably: "I have no interest in those watches."

"Why?"

"I don't want to be pushed by time every day, watching the hands count the days, so I don't like wearing a watch." Lin Chen made up a random excuse.

"Ah..." Liu Shishi dragged out her tone, filled with disappointment: "But, everyone says that if a woman doesn't use her loved one's money to buy him an expensive watch, it means their love isn't perfect enough."

Lin Chen was stunned for a moment, then chuckled: "Which literary giant said this nonsensical piece of toxic chicken soup?"

Liu Shishi replied weakly: "The sales clerk at the Patek Philippe counter said it."

"..." Lin Chen's face was covered in black lines.

"Pfft—hahaha!"

Gulnazar, who was lying on Lin Chen's shoulder, couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing.

Afraid of being heard by Liu Shishi, she quickly covered her mouth with both hands, her whole body twitching crazily with laughter.

"Hubby? Is there some sound on your end?"

"Forget about 'Hubby'. Go eat your dinner, don't stay up late tonight, I'll pick you up tomorrow morning. Hanging up."

Lin Chen decisively cut off the call.
