108: Chapter 105 A Dark and Windy Night
The time was gradually approaching ten o'clock. Tonight's moonlight was exceptionally bright and beautiful, hanging high in the sky like a luminous pearl.
Near the woods, all eight people were in position. Six were busy deep within the forest, while two stood guard outside. This was the countryside, and there was no telling if some blind drunk might wander in.
Among the six working inside, everyone except the boss was laboring hard, using shovels and hoes to dig pits.
"Boss, the first pit is ready."
Two of them stopped; their task was complete.
Seeing this, the boss nodded. He took a puff of his cigarette and signaled to a companion beside him with a nod, saying, "It's about time. Push this family in. They know too much; eliminate them."
As he spoke, he dropped his cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it with his foot, as if extinguishing the flame of life.
Upon hearing this, the family members—whose mouths were taped shut and bodies bound—struggled incessantly. They made muffled whimpering sounds, tears streaming down their faces as if begging for mercy.
However, the spies watching them paid no heed. Each grabbed a person with one hand and threw them with force; the family was tossed into the pit like trash.
"This pit is still a bit shallow, but it'll have to do. Cover them with soil."
The boss waved his hand. Once covered with soil, this family wouldn't survive long—ten minutes at most. If the soil was packed tightly, they might die in just a few minutes.
Several companions nodded helplessly and had to continue working.
They really weren't keen on this job. In their opinion, why bother with burial after killing someone?
However, considering they might need to continue operating here if the notebook wasn't found later, cleaning up properly would buy them more time.
On the other side, two more people were digging a pit; this was naturally prepared for Li Changsheng.
Meanwhile, the two accomplices on lookout each had a cigarette in their mouths, puffing lightly while whispering dirty jokes to each other.
The glowing red tips of their cigarettes were particularly eye-catching in the night.
They were elites. If they were back in their home country during training, such behavior would surely have earned them a harsh reprimand from their instructor.
But after lurking in this country for many years without ever encountering a mishap, they had grown considerably bolder.
Of course, their combat capabilities had not diminished in the slightest. They were not only proficient in various fighting techniques but also experts in firearms, infiltration, urban combat, tracking, escape, and even the operation of various vehicles.
For this operation, they had obtained equipment through their respective dead-drop channels. It wasn't anything fancy—just modified New Nambu M57 pistols equipped with silencers.
In addition, they had folding knives. All this equipment would need to be hidden or discarded after the mission, as this was an infiltration operation.
A total of eight people had come this time. Two of them looked lazy and relaxed, but their eyes were subtly scanning the surroundings.
"Sigh. How much longer do you think we have to stay in this hellhole?" one of them, named Nakano, muttered through his cigarette.
"Who knows? Boss Nakamura is in full charge of this mission. If the Boss doesn't give the word, we'll have to come back after the police leave. If the notebook isn't on that kid, we'll probably have to wander around these mountains for ten days or half a month," the other man, named Yamada, replied nonchalantly, blowing a smoke ring.
The wisps of smoke were as intoxicating as a thick mist.
"Ugh, this lousy mission. Honestly, as long as there are girls to play with and alcohol to drink, I can do anything and stay as long as needed. I still miss that mission in Shu Province; they have giant pandas there. I've been here so many years and still haven't seen one. It's a pity Boss Nakamura is so serious. He rules that we can only move within the mission area. It's too boring. It's not nearly as comfortable as following Boss Yanagimura," Nakano complained in a low voice.
"Think about Yanagimura. How fun was it following him to Su Province? He even called girls for us. Nakamura is way too stingy."
"Called girls? Boss Yanagimura was that good? But I remember your mission then was to facilitate a Summer Festival event, secretly inciting those stupid Xia people. You had the heart to look for girls during such a dangerous mission?"
"Hehe, you wouldn't know. Once the brainwashing succeeds, it's actually quite easy. We didn't even need Boss Yanagimura to speak; those stupid Xia people helped us on their own.
They even felt that other Xia people were making a fuss over nothing. Because of that, we successfully escaped from that mission afterward."
Nakano grinned, a reminiscent smile appearing on his face.
"Those girls at the Summer Festival, the taste was indeed quite good..."
Pfft.
Suddenly, the sound of flesh being pierced came from beside him, followed by Yamada slumping to the ground.
Nakano froze instantly, his teeth clamping down on his cigarette. He instinctively reached for his gun, searching for a target to aim at.
But aside from his fallen companion, who died with his eyes wide open, there was no one else around. It was dead silent.
The moonlight was beautiful, reminding him of Sakurako back in his hometown. But at this moment, he felt his skin crawl, and the pleasant images in his mind vanished instantly.
Thud!
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck, and the world began to spin before his eyes.
As he collapsed, a sturdy figure wearing a black suit slowly emerged from behind where Nakano had been standing.
It was Li Changsheng. Under the moonlight, he looked even more somber, though it was a somberness carrying an extreme indifference.
He had changed into a black suit for ease of movement. He had originally wanted a set of loose, pure black clothes, but there were none at home.
There was only the pure black suit his grandmother had bought for him when he graduated.
When he wore this suit before, his thin frame and poor posture made him look hunched and weak. But now, wearing it, Li Changsheng looked like a cold-blooded killer straight out of a movie.
The shoulders of the suit were filled out by his now-broad shoulders. Standing tall and straight, he was like a frost-covered sword about to be unsheathed!
He slightly adjusted his collar, cracked his neck, and then weighed a Flying Locust Stone in his hand. Swish!
Accompanied by two soft thuds, the moment his fingers opened, two Flying Locust Stones accurately struck the backs of the two men's heads, sinking in and causing small bursts of blood.
At this moment, whether they were dead or merely unconscious, they had both become cold corpses.
Li Changsheng walked with steady steps, his hands in his pockets as if attending a grand banquet, as he disappeared into the dark woods.
One spy, with a cigarette in his mouth, was wiping his pistol, preparing to go out and check the situation.
He looked at his wristwatch; it was exactly ten o'clock. By all accounts, that kid should have arrived.
"Baka, is this Xia kid really that heartless? Don't they put filial piety above all else?"
He was cursing under his breath when he suddenly felt something was wrong. His pace halted abruptly, and he quickly looked up.
Not far away was pitch black, save for the spots of moonlight hitting the ground through the gaps in the canopy. The surroundings were incredibly silent, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Right then, a figure emerged halfway from the shadows. Standing 1.8 meters tall with his head slightly bowed, his face remained hidden in the darkness.
Not good!
Seeing this, the spy realized something was wrong. He instinctively tried to shout while drawing the gun from his waist.
Since the person had arrived, it was impossible that no one outside had notified them. Something must have happened.
Pfft!
