159: Chapter 156 Five-Tone Health Preservation Method

It could be considered to have both pros and cons.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has a concept of 'Five Sounds' for health preservation, which are 'Exhaling, Laughing, Singing, Crying, and Groaning'.

Among them, 'Exhaling' corresponds to the liver, while 'Singing' corresponds to the spleen.

Perhaps these residents felt that both 'exhaling' and 'singing' would have a health-preserving effect on their liver and spleen.

In fact, the 'Five Sounds' in TCM mean using five different ways of vocal expression to inversely infer pathological changes in the five internal organs; it doesn't mean that shouting and screaming can actually nourish the liver, or that singing loudly can strengthen the spleen.

On the contrary, shouting and screaming for a long time will deplete one's Qi and damage the spirit.

Of course, for those in a bad mood, an occasional loud shout can help vent internal depression, though a hearty laugh is best.

This is especially true for office workers doing 996 or 007 schedules, or those who frequently work rotating shifts.

For such people, an occasional loud shout or laugh can relieve internal pressure, which is actually beneficial for blood pressure and can strengthen the heart and lungs.

After all, if the pressure is too high, severe cases are prone to myocardial infarction.

If you look closely, you'll find that those who frequently sing karaoke mostly have abundant internal energy. These people are less likely to get sick and tend to have more cheerful personalities.

Our country has had the theory of treating diseases with the five tones since ancient times. For instance, the basic principles of Five-Tone Therapy are recorded in the 'yellow emperors inner canon'.

It involves regulating the body's emotions through different types of music. Based on the characteristics of the five tones, TCM has the 'Method of Applying Music According to the Organs' for deficiency syndromes of the various viscera caused by excessive emotions.

Liver Yin deficiency caused by anger can be supplemented with Jue-style music. Heart Qi deficiency caused by joy can be supplemented with Zhi-style music. Spleen Qi deficiency caused by overthinking can be supplemented with Gong-style music.

Lung Qi deficiency caused by sorrow can be supplemented with Shang-style music. Kidney Qi deficiency caused by fear can be supplemented with Yu-style music.

After browsing through these memories, Li Changsheng was deeply shocked.

"I was truly a fool before! I thought Western things were mostly quite good, but now it seems our ancestors discovered various wellness methods a long time ago."

Li Changsheng sighed with emotion. In the field of health preservation and the study of the human body, the ancestors truly had it all figured out.

"So I should frequently listen to some music according to my own condition; this will have a soothing effect on my organs. However, it's not like the Lions Roar Skill can't be practiced anymore."

Continuing to browse the memories in his mind, Li Changsheng roughly understood that practicing for about ten minutes a day was sufficient.

"My Internal Skill foundation is solid, and my Internal Martial Arts have already shown some results. There's really no need to over-study it; too much is as bad as too little."

After all, practicing this thing too much can easily damage the throat, and shouting too much can harm the spirit or even endanger the internal organs.

"Fortunately, the System provided it. Otherwise, if I really practiced at the frequency of 'gloomy sunday,' I would be reverse-practicing the Lions Roar Skill. I'd be depressed within a month and go crazy within half a year."

Li Changsheng couldn't help but chuckle. Martial arts really aren't something you can just tinker with blindly.

It's true that the things left by the ancestors are treasures, but they also emphasize details; a tiny discrepancy can lead to a massive error.

Just like Ouyang Feng, who turned himself into a madman by reverse-practicing the Nine Yin Manual.

"Moreover, the Lions Roar Skill is an upright, loud, and Yang-leaning soundwave technique. As long as the practice duration is properly controlled, not only will it not harm oneself, but it will be of great benefit."

Unlike the feminine audio of 'gloomy sunday,' the Lions Roar Skill leans more toward the positive, involuntarily bringing out one's masculine side.

Calming his mind slightly, Li Changsheng turned off the light to sleep. After all, practicing the Lions Roar Skill late at night definitely wouldn't work.

He slept until six o'clock. Li Changsheng got up on time, not needing an alarm as his biological clock woke him automatically.

After washing up, Li Changsheng climbed onto the rooftop and started with ten minutes of the Lions Roar Skill.

On his first attempt, Li Changsheng practiced very slowly. It sounded like a sonorous bel canto, lacking a bit of dominance but adding a touch of elegance.

"Uh... something's not right. Do I actually have musical talent? Again!"

Another sonorous shout. Each time, his Qi sank to the Dantian, communicating the internal Qi mechanism by bridging the upper and lower 'Magpie Bridges'.

The sound was much louder than an ordinary person's, as if he were shouting through a megaphone.

Only...

It was still very beautiful. Anyone who didn't know better would think a musician was diligently practicing bel canto here.

"That shouldn't be. I'm just a rough fellow who's never dabbled in such elegant things. How did it turn out like this?"

Li Changsheng was bewildered. Bel canto is something that's impossible to shout out on the first try without professional training.

Yet, with just one shout, the sound he produced was melodious and wonderful, like a heavenly voice.

"I'm supposed to use this thing to deter enemies?"

Li Changsheng was dumbfounded. Once he opened his mouth, the enemies might just pull up small stools, respectfully hand over ticket fees, and listen to 'Frederick Li's' bel canto concert.

"Something's wrong. There must be a problem somewhere!"

Refusing to believe it, Li Changsheng tried a few more times. Soon, the ten-minute practice session was over. Li Changsheng sat on the floor, feeling somewhat powerless.

After nearly thirty loud shouts, he didn't know if the dominance of the Lions Roar Skill had been developed, but he found that his bel canto was getting better and more professional.

Although he didn't understand music, the sound of that voice really was becoming more and more pleasant.

"Did the System make a mistake? Is this technique actually a bel canto training method?"

Li Changsheng was puzzled. Through the breathing method and the technique of bridging the Magpie Bridges, his voice was exceptionally loud, and not only loud but also completely undistorted.

If an ordinary person shouted like this, their voice would surely crack at the high notes. But Li Changsheng's high notes soared all the way without a hint of distortion, preserving the original flavor of bel canto.

It is said that Ms. Lu, a domestic musician, is hailed as the singer with the 'highest voice, widest range, and highest singing' in the world.

Her low-frequency notes are at 77.5 Hz, while her high notes reach 4400 Hz, which is #c5 (measured by experts from the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences).

"I'm probably at around 2000 Hz now. But I'm a martial artist, and she's a professional. Reaching her level or even surpassing it won't be too difficult."

Li Changsheng had the solidified memories from the System. By practicing continuously and gradually finding the highest vocal rhythm, he could steadily improve his voice.

She wasn't a martial artist; she might have been born with abundant breath, combined with Acquired aerobic exercise and bel canto training to achieve that step.

"But right now, my biggest problem doesn't seem to be increasing the volume, but..."

Thinking of this, Li Changsheng's face was lined with frustration. He felt that if he continued practicing like this, he didn't know if the Lions Roar Skill would succeed, but he could certainly become a singer.

Shaking his head, he went downstairs, preparing to run a round trip to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Just as he got downstairs, a maintenance worker greeted him with a smile.

"Brother Li, you're up so early!"

A maintenance worker asked in surprise. He was the only one in the factory right now because it was his turn to open the shop early.

Generally, the other people in the factory would start work one after another at nine o'clock.

People around here generally woke up quite late.

"Early to bed and early to rise for exercise. You guys should also go to bed early. Did you stay up playing cards and drinking again?"

Seeing the dark circles under the other man's eyes, Li Changsheng joked.

"Not really. It's just that Seventh Brother and the others returned very late yesterday. I got up to open the door for them and washed a car."

Hearing this, Li Changsheng's heart stirred. It seemed that this group had indeed caused quite a stir yesterday.

"How is it? Is everyone okay?" Li Changsheng inquired.

"Seventh Brother got a bit injured; he's lying inside. Third Master is 'scalding' him right now."

The man shook his head.

"Scalding? Just like that?" Li Changsheng raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, that's how we always do it. We used to have a doctor, but he liked to carry the wounded himself, saying that moving around was good for the body. In the end, he's gone."

"Now in this situation, we let Third Master handle it." The young maintenance worker scratched his head with a smile.

It was as if this was a common occurrence to him.

Li Changsheng was curious and couldn't help asking, "Third Master knows medicine too?"

Third Master was that old man in the wheelchair he had seen yesterday.

"Yes! Third Master said he knows it. He treated his own leg."

"What happened to his leg? Was it supposed to be amputated, so now it's perfectly preserved?" Li Changsheng asked suspiciously.

"Not really. When Third Master was treating his own leg, there was no doctor yet."

"Later, that doctor came, took a look, and said he could have stood up originally, but now he can only sit."

The young maintenance worker smiled and scratched his head again. His simple-minded appearance made Li Changsheng's lips twitch.
