113: Chapter 110 Analysis
"Director Zhang, this is certainly not a script. The original file is a red-headed official document, and it's already been sent to the bureau for storage."
Captain Hao felt between laughter and tears, but then again, hadn't he thought the same thing at first?
Who would have thought that such a Dragon would be coiled within their Branch Bureau?
"You say this case matches his file. What do you mean? Did this person take down eight armed spies using some kind of traditional kung fu?"
As he said this, Director Zhang's tone rose slightly; clearly, he was far from calm.
"Yes!" Captain Hao simply nodded solemnly.
"Director Zhang, look. These are photos of the deceased's wounds. According to the forensic pathologist's craniotomy, a pebble was found deeply embedded ten centimeters into the skull."
"Based on the analysis, the fatal wounds were all caused by a sharp pebble like this, piercing into the skull from either between the eyebrows or the back of the head."
Captain Hao handed over a stack of photos while gesturing with his eyes toward the gravel scattered everywhere on the ground.
*Hiss!*
Hearing this, Director Zhang hurriedly flipped through the photos, and the more he looked, the more he couldn't help but suck in several breaths of cold air.
The photos didn't just show the bodies where they initially lay; there were also images from the autopsy room. It was gruesome; the brain tissue inside was nearly pulverized.
A separate photo had also been taken of the murder weapon, which had been extracted covered in red and white matter.
*Blergh!*
*Blergh!*
Director Zhang shoved the photos back at Captain Hao and sprinted to a nearby rural ditch, where he began to vomit uncontrollably.
Even though Director Zhang was a man of the world, he was thoroughly revolted this time.
The sharp pebble had blended the brain tissue so uniformly that the resulting color was nauseating. The thought that the contents of his own head would probably look the same if stirred made it even harder to hold back.
Crucially, these photos were incredibly clear; even the neural tissue was captured in vivid detail.
After vomiting for over ten minutes, until he was nearly retching stomach acid, Director Zhang finally returned to Captain Hao, his face deathly pale.
"Director Zhang, are you alright? Why don't you go rest in the car for a bit?" Captain Hao's tone was clearly one of concern, but to Director Zhang's ears, it sounded like he was gloating.
Because he had also vomited when he saw the photos that morning; he hadn't even eaten breakfast, and he probably wouldn't be able to stomach lunch either.
Director Zhang glared at Captain Hao and said weakly and irritably, "Continue!"
Seeing this, Captain Hao didn't dare to joke around. He quickly straightened his expression and continued, "According to the forensic analysis, the weapon was likely fired into the victims' skulls while spinning at high speed. This indicates the killer's technique is extremely sophisticated. In all my years on the force, I've never seen such a method of killing."
"Efficient, swift, a guaranteed kill, and the weapon is extremely easy to find."
Director Zhang nodded inwardly. Indeed, with such skills, one would be more than qualified to be an assassin. At close range, it was silent and no less efficient than a firearm.
"However, we also found something interesting at the scene."
"Something interesting?"
Director Zhang was taken aback.
Captain Hao took a few more photos out of an evidence bag and pointed at them. "Director Zhang, look. These are the bullet holes and casings we found at the scene."
"By all accounts, five shots were fired in total, and indeed, five bullets were missing from the magazine of one of the deceased's firearms. But Li Changsheng only has one gunshot wound."
"Hmm... what are you trying to say?" Director Zhang didn't quite understand what his capable subordinate was getting at.
"Director Zhang, what I'm actually saying is that Li Changsheng possesses extraordinary physical skills. He evaded at least two or more bullets."
"After all, if these people really were spies..."
Captain Hao stopped there. The meaning was clear: if these people were truly spies, even if they weren't perfect marksmen, hitting a target in two or three shots would be normal. Furthermore, according to their analysis, the distance between the two parties at the time couldn't have been far.
"And that was while the other party was holding a hostage."
"Tsk, tsk... isn't that a bit too much of a leap?"
Although Director Zhang felt it made sense, he still felt uneasy. Just who was this person?
That special file from before had already made him cry out in shock, and now things were becoming even more incomprehensible.
"Heh, Director Zhang, the biggest mystery is actually this!"
With that, Captain Hao took out the last few photos.
"What is this?"
Looking at the four photos, Director Zhang was a bit dazed. The photos were clear, showing three trees, but all three trees were snapped.
And the last photo was of a large crater in the ground.
"Director Zhang, look at these three trees and this crater. What do you think caused them?"
Faced with Captain Hao's sudden question, Director Zhang hesitated only slightly before blurting out.
"It looks like something from a large-caliber shotgun or something similar."
"Yes, Director Zhang, your analysis is correct. Logically, such gashes and marks would either be from a shotgun or caused by a large beast repeatedly striking them."
"However, according to the forensic evidence, we didn't find any bullet traces on them—not even a speck of gunpowder. Nor did we find any DNA from a large beast."
"We only found a large amount of Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate." Captain Hao looked at Director Zhang mysteriously and smiled. "Director Zhang, do you know what that means?"
"Dammit, speak plain English to me!"
Director Zhang couldn't take it anymore and kicked him.
"Director Zhang, you really should read more. That's a common Materials used in the soles of running shoes on the market," Captain Hao said hurriedly.
"Running shoe Materials? You mean to say..."
Director Zhang suppressed the urge to kick the guy again, his breathing becoming a bit heavy.
*Sigh!*
Captain Hao sighed, shrugged, and said helplessly:
"Although I don't want to admit it, the only current guess is that this might have been stomped out by someone's foot."
Once those words were out, both men fell into silence.
After a long while, the sound of Director Zhang swallowing could be heard.
He swallowed several times before finally calming his shocked emotions.
"Do you think the brothers watching that kid will be okay?"
"I... I don't know. Currently, there's a Provincial Commissioner responsible for keeping Li Changsheng steady, but we don't know much about his personality yet."
"However, based on his previous file, human life... might not mean much to him."
Captain Hao shared his perspective, which was also the analysis reflected by various clues and data.
"Director Zhang, do you think we should send more manpower over there?"
"Director Zhang?"
After being called several times, Director Zhang finally snapped out of it.
"Ah, oh. Do you have any cigarettes on you?" Director Zhang didn't answer, just kept asking for a smoke.
"Director Zhang, didn't you quit?"
Captain Hao was suspicious, but he still fished out a cigarette and tossed one over.
"Can't I have one now to calm my nerves?"
Taking the cigarette, Director Zhang glared with his tiger-like eyes again.
