347: Chapter 344 Failure and Successful Escape

Looking closely, it was possible to distinguish roughly three groups of people.

One group, also the largest, consisted naturally of the Genentech armed personnel. They were the most numerous, yet they appeared exceptionally panicked at this moment.

Because at this moment, they were being subjected to a hail of gunfire from both the front and the back.

The group near Research Building B wore various types of clothing, but each was armed with firearms. Without a doubt, they were all test subjects.

There weren't many in this group, probably around a hundred people.

It was unclear where they had obtained the firearms, ammunition, bulletproof vests, and helmets. Although their inner clothing varied, they were fully armed on the outside, appearing almost identical to the armed personnel.

On the other side were what appeared to be armed forces that had flooded in from the outside. These people were more or less covered in mud and leaves, their bodies painted in camouflage. They were also armed to the teeth, and this group possessed exceptionally fierce firepower and fought without fear of death.

These two groups were now sandwiching the most numerous Genentech armed personnel, pushing forward frantically.

"What on earth is going on? Old Michael, I want to know, you aren't lying to me, are you? This is fake, right? Is this movie technology, isn't it?"

Ava gritted her teeth. At this moment, there was not a trace of her usual elegant demeanor left on her face; there was only a malice akin to a venomous woman.

"Boss! I also wish this were an April Fool's joke, but I am sorry to say this is the reality. In fact, everything I told you before was just the beginning. We are attempting to research a God, Boss. If you were here, you would be just as shocked as I am."

"I don't want to hear this. I will settle the score with you all about these gains and losses later!" Ava was clenching her teeth so hard they might shatter. She swore that once this was over, if she found out who had caused everything to become this disastrous, she would definitely make them experience the feeling of having their scalp removed by Indians in the last century.

"I want to know, what is the situation right now? How long will it take you to quell this terrible incident?"

"Boss! It might take an hour, or perhaps longer. It depends on the speed of our personnel," Old Michael said with a look of helplessness.

"The speed of our personnel? I don't understand what you mean. By the way, how exactly did the test subjects get out? Isn't our defense system supposed to be able to seal off all entrances and exits to the underground laboratory?"

Ava was full of confusion. She had never imagined how a group of test subjects, who were like sheep, could stir up such a massive disturbance.

This wasn't the Middle Ages; this was modern society. As long as you had guns, a hundred people could guard a thousand or even more. Not to mention, she possessed an armed force of nearly several thousand people.

"Boss! There were originally fifty squads inside the underground laboratory, but now they have all been trapped by the enemy. Part of the ground armed forces is at the training camp. Currently, this is all the personnel we have—nearly thirty squads!"

"What? Why is this happening? Why? How on earth was this accomplished?"

Ava was completely bewildered; the more she listened, the more confused she became.

"Boss! Someone has invaded from the outside. This is a targeted attack. An armed force of nearly several hundred people is invading us. They cut off part of our outer defenses while we were completely unprepared, and other personnel have already been pinned down. Boss! We can't hold on much longer!"

Old Michael was truly unable to explain much more; he was also completely muddled right now.

How had the entire underground laboratory suddenly been breached? How had an invading armed force suddenly appeared?

The actual situation was even worse than what he had just said; there seemed to be another force hidden inside. Some clerks in the A-block office building had also suddenly started a riot, which had tied up a large number of personnel to suppress, otherwise, the outside wouldn't be so constrained.

"I don't care what method you use, Will! Yes, what is Will doing? You two must make this terrible situation disappear as soon as possible, you must!"

Ava's tone was unquestionable. She was about to go crazy. Who would have known that making this phone call would turn out to be such a bombshell? She was now even more worried about the attitude of this group of powerful investors.

On the other end, Old Michael was just about to say that Mr. Will hadn't come to work at all today and was probably on some female celebrity's stomach again, but Ava had already cut the communication.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the research institute, the group of people who had just rushed out of the institute's gate had already become numb.

The initial adrenaline had gradually cooled down. On this military bus, which was covered in dents and potholes on the outside, there were only twelve people in sight.

It had been only five minutes since they broke through the encirclement, and gunfire could still be heard constantly from behind.

Li Changsheng, pale and soaked as if he had been fished out of water, looked around. His expression darkened, and he sighed in his heart.

Nearly ninety percent of the people had remained there forever. Among them, the majority were Martial Masters from the Xia Kingdom, including some sole inheritors of obscure martial arts styles.

Peter Guo and some foreign fighters who had temporarily joined the battle had almost all remained there, with the exception of that guy Azure Dragon, who had actually managed to survive and board this bus to survival as if his luck stat was maxed out.

It was incredible. Li Changsheng carefully recalled the battle and realized he hadn't seen this mountain of flesh at all during the fighting, but as soon as the bus started, this person had popped out from somewhere. At this moment, the other party also wore the look of someone who had survived a disaster.

Ignoring Azure Dragon, Li Changsheng looked at the others, his heart relaxing slightly. Fortunately, the few people he was familiar with were all still alive.

Wan Qianhe, Zhang Zhao, Chen Youcai, and Zhou Sheng, but Master Huo Yude, who held the Legacy of Yu Chenghui's swordsmanship, had remained there.

Li Changsheng had seen Master Huo, when he died in the end, abandon the gun in his hand and use the sword he was familiar with once more. With a single stroke of fast swordsmanship, he had accurately pierced a person's throat.

The few who survived were not in good condition either. Wan Qianhe's prosthetic limb was nearly reduced to a "Syrian version," and Zhang Zhao had a gunshot wound on one arm. Chen Youcai had been shot in the abdomen, leaving only Zhou Sheng.

This was also the person Li Changsheng found most strange. This man seemed to know where the danger was in advance, perfectly embodying what it meant to be a "sneaky operator." He would hide here and fire a few shots, then hide there and fire a few shots; the number of people who died by his hand was no less than five. He seemed to always hide in the blind spots of ordinary people, and these cold shots were exceptionally lethal.

"Old Zhou, are you okay to drive? Those brothers of yours..." Dragging his heavy body, Li Changsheng came to the iron railing and sighed to Zhou Guoli, who was driving inside.

Li Changsheng hadn't anticipated the situation at the time; he had expected to encounter a large number of well-rested armed forces right from the start. Instead, as soon as they came out, they heard that the outside was already in chaos. Rushing out of the building, they saw that familiar face of Old Zhou, and it could be said they were well-prepared.

Facing the ill-prepared Genentech armed forces, Old Zhou's squad used various heavy firepower, such as RPGs, as if they were free of charge. Combined with some peripheral howitzers, under their covering fire, Li Changsheng and his group still paid a heavy price in manpower to barely manage the breakout under the firepower of Old Zhou's team.

PS: I've updated 11 chapters in total today. Also, I'm promoting a new story I've started, [The Big Shot Is a Bit Panicked, the Little Brother Secretly Becomes a Martial Saint]. Everyone is welcome to add it to your bookshelf and let it accumulate for now.
