112: Chapter 109 Are you sure this isn't a movie script?
Taihe Hospital—
When Li Changsheng woke up again, he saw a pure white ceiling and smelled the pungent scent of disinfectant.
Looking down, he saw the little old lady asleep beside him, while on two chairs across from the bed sat two police officers with their heads slightly bowed, seemingly half-asleep.
Li Changsheng didn't remember how he got there; he only remembered seeing flashing police lights on the road in the distance as he walked out of the woods, followed by a sudden bout of dizziness before he passed out.
"He's awake!"
Suddenly, one of them yawned, and seeing Li Changsheng wake up, quickly nudged his companion with his elbow.
"Hello, Mr. Li. I'm Officer Zhao Jun. Do you still remember me?"
The man stood up and came to Li Changsheng's bedside, pulling out his identification from his pocket, while his voice also woke the little old lady.
"Grandma, I'm fine."
Seeing that his grandmother was about to say something, Li Changsheng quickly said, "By the way, Grandma, I'm a bit hungry. Could you help me get something to eat?"
Hearing this, Grandma glanced at Officer Zhao Jun with some concern, hesitated slightly, then nodded and pushed the door open to walk out.
Once the old lady had left, Li Changsheng looked seriously at the familiar face before him.
"Officer Zhao, what is the meaning of this? You should understand what I mean," Li Changsheng said calmly.
Hearing this, Officer Zhao Jun's expression was a bit conflicted. After a long pause, he sighed, "Mr. Li, please rest assured. We are just conducting a routine investigation, but for now, we still need to stay with you. I hope you can understand."
As he spoke, Officer Zhao Jun unconsciously took half a step back. Even though the man in front of him had just undergone surgery, he didn't dare get too close, as if the person lying there was a fierce tiger ready to devour someone.
"So, how will you handle me in the end? After all, I killed eight people in one go," Li Changsheng didn't mind and continued to press.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Li. I cannot give you a reply regarding this matter until I receive orders. However, please rest assured that until the matter is fully investigated, we will not do anything to you. Also, you must trust us; of course, we also need your cooperation in the investigation."
"Cooperate with the investigation? Hmm, alright. Ask whatever you want."
—
Meanwhile, on the road not far outside the woods to the west of the village, a crowd of onlookers had already gathered.
"Sigh, what happened? Why is there such a big commotion?"
"Yeah, more than a dozen police cars have arrived, and there are even people with guns standing guard!"
"It might be related to the questioning last night. It seems to be about that family from the east of the village, and something about poaching."
A group of villagers discussed animatedly, while inside the woods, dozens of police officers wearing gloves were carefully collecting evidence, some taking photos with cameras.
"Captain Hao, the family dug out of the pit last night has woken up at the hospital. According to their statement, this group of people came to stay a month ago but kidnapped them that same night.
Besides providing daily meals, they also had someone watching them at all times. Based on the family's descriptions, this group was very cautious and intentionally avoided them during important conversations.
So they only overheard one piece of information: that they seemed to be entering the mountains to survey something. Whether it was a code name is still unknown."
An officer came to Captain Hao's side and recounted the information obtained from the hospital.
Hearing this, Captain Hao nodded. From the investigation last night until now, near noon, the general situation of the case could almost be reconstructed from various clues, but many details were still unexplained.
Just then, a young officer ran over and said, "Captain Hao, Director Zhang is looking for you."
Captain Hao nodded and walked towards the perimeter of the crowd. With such a big case, firearms found at the scene, and eight deaths, their branch director naturally couldn't sit still.
"Director Zhang, you were looking for me."
Director Zhang was a relatively thin middle-aged man, about fifty years old, with a resolute face and the air of a former soldier still influencing him.
"Have you found anything after investigating for so long?" Director Zhang said calmly, his voice heavy. With such a big incident, if they didn't find something, his position would be unstable.
Captain Hao nodded, took a deep breath, and then stated, "The incident occurred approximately between 10:00 and 10:30 last night. There were a total of fourteen people at the scene.
Among them were eight armed personnel, a family of four, and a family of two. Both families are currently in the hospital and are under our close surveillance.
Based on the analysis of the scene, this is suspected to..."
"Suspected to be what?" Director Zhang frowned and barked.
Hearing this, Captain Hao could only grit his teeth and say, "Suspected to involve foreign spy forces."
"What's the basis?"
Hearing this analysis, although Director Zhang was startled, he remained steady.
"The firearms found on these eight deceased are all Shin Nambu M57 pistols with silencers, along with military daggers. There have been precedents for this before. Moreover, the style of these pistols..."
What Captain Hao said indeed made sense. During World War II, the island nation often used Nambu pistols, and now Nambu pistols had become standard equipment there.
"You're saying these eight people were spies? Then tell me, who killed them?"
Director Zhang asked back, his tone questioning. After all, if they were spies, he knew that spies capable of carrying firearms were often trained.
For such people, even if their entire branch discovered the target, they wouldn't dare to carry out an arrest alone; they would have to coordinate with brother units.
"Uh... it's not clear yet, but based on the scene and the analysis of the victim we rescued last night, it might... it might have been done by one person."
At this point, Captain Hao lacked a bit of confidence, but all current evidence pointed to that person having done it.
"Who? Are you talking about that young man named Li Changsheng?"
Director Zhang asked back; he had seen the information on all the people involved in this case.
"Yes!" Captain Hao nodded. "It's that young man named Li Changsheng. Someone from the province arrived this morning; they sent a Special Commissioner specifically to interface regarding this suspect, Li Changsheng.
Currently, our people can only wait outside. His situation seems quite special. That commissioner also brought a special file about Li Changsheng."
At this point, Captain Hao's expression had become somewhat strange.
"Where's the file? Let me see it."
Director Zhang was also surprised. What kind of person was this, to even have a special file?
Captain Hao waved to a colleague, and soon a copy of the file was handed over.
"Director, take a look. There are indeed many similarities between Li Changsheng's special file and the investigation of this case."
Hearing this, Director Zhang was even more surprised and quickly began to flip through it.
He read for a full ten minutes, the expression on his face being quite remarkable—frowning one moment, raising his eyebrows the next, and finally opening his mouth wide.
"Are you sure this file isn't a movie script?"
