200: Chapter 200 Script Revision
The five o'clock alarm went off right on time.
Lin Chuyan squinted as he turned off his phone alarm. After psyching himself up for two seconds, he sat bolt upright in bed with a "whoosh."
This was a little trick for waking up early that he had figured out on his own since becoming an actor.
Fantasizing about sleeping for another five minutes only leads to you waking up in a panic at least 50 minutes later.
The best method is to not think about anything in the moment and get out of bed immediately—just get out of bed first, then worry about the rest.
Don't give your brain any chance to think or slack off; you have to get up whether you want to or not.
Lin Chuyan felt around on the floor by the bedside until he found his slippers and put them on. He stood up and pulled back the curtains; the sky was indeed still dark.
However, it seemed Xia Zhi had gotten up even earlier than him.
He checked his phone and saw that she had already sent him a message and even prepared coffee for him.
Breakfast was a sandwich that a few of them had bought from a convenience store on the way back to the hotel last night. Heated up and paired with coffee, it tasted decent enough.
After downing a cup of coffee, he started to feel energized.
Although he had only slept for six hours, luckily his body was still young and could handle it.
Xia Zhi wanted to accompany him to the set, but Lin Chuyan shooed her back to catch up on some sleep.
He was actually quite considerate of the people around him.
When he arrived at the set, he checked the time: 5:44 AM. Only then did the sky begin to turn pale and slowly brighten.
Seeing that he wasn't late, Director Du Qiyu nodded without saying anything.
This was basic professionalism for an actor; surely he didn't expect to be praised for it? At least in his book, that wasn't how things worked.
Lin Chuyan conscientiously went off to get his makeup done and change clothes.
This morning's scene wouldn't be easy. It was Uncle Da's first scene, followed immediately by his meeting with Uncle Da, and then a chase scene where a group of people would hunt him down with machetes. Once caught, he would have to get beaten up—not just by gangsters, but by the police as well... ending with him being arrested by the police.
Because it was an on-location shoot involving chases, fights, and cars careening wildly, the production team had already applied for and received permission from the relevant authorities in Hong Kong to close off the road for filming.
However, closing the road was one thing; bystanders watching was another.
At 6:30, the sky was fully bright.
By 7 o'clock, a few people had already started standing on the other side of the street, leaning against the railings, ready to watch the action intently...
There was no helping that, so they just had to keep filming as planned. Besides, if you're fighting in the middle of the street, it's normal for people to watch, right?
The crew was adept at handling such situations. It was simple: just get a few more people to walk back and forth in front of the camera or block the view. There wasn't much else they could do.
"Nickname, come here, let's run through the Lines one last time."
Seeing that Lin Chuyan was ready, Uncle Da came over to find him immediately.
Uncle Da's look today was quite unique.
He wore a pair of plain, unbranded deep blue sweatpants, and a short-sleeved white T-shirt. The front of the T-shirt was printed with the American flag, looking like the kind you'd buy at a roadside stall for 25 yuan for two.
The fabric of the T-shirt looked loose and baggy, as if it had been washed hundreds of times. There was even a hole in the midsection; clearly, this was his work uniform.
At this moment, a dirty towel was draped over his right shoulder; it was unclear whether it was wet from water or sweat, as half of his shoulder was soaked.
Fortunately, he still had a cigarette tucked behind his ear, which represented his attitude toward life.
"Uncle, what's with this outfit?"
"That's right, this is it. It's actually really comfortable to wear in the summer, unlike you, still trying to look cool, hahaha."
Lin Chuyan was still wearing jeans, with a black long-sleeved shirt layered under a sleeveless denim vest, and a stainless steel ball chain around his neck.
Hmm, that could probably be called gangster aesthetics.
"Seriously, it's so hot. It doesn't make sense to dress like this in the summer."
"I can't help you there. Go talk to the director or Director Du Qiyu; this is their aesthetic." However, Uncle Da's eyes rolled, and he suddenly had an idea. "Actually, I did just think of a solution."
"What solution?"
"How about this? There's a scene later where you're supposed to come find me, right?" Uncle Da pointed into the distance. "See that prop over there? It's filled with half a bucket of water. See it?"
Lin Chuyan looked in the direction he was pointing. There was indeed a red bucket, and it was indeed filled with water. "And then?"
"And then? When you see me, throw the stinky rag in my face, splash the water on me, and then pour the rest over both of us! I guarantee you'll cool down."
Lin Chuyan was tempted but also hesitant. "Is that okay? Should I discuss it with the director?"
"Discuss what? You really don't need to; just trust me. We don't have much makeup on, and our clothes aren't expensive props. It's just water. Besides, you're going to be fighting people in a bit anyway, so don't worry about it."
Uncle Da patted his chest, guaranteeing it.
"You know, Uncle, changing it like that actually makes a lot of sense!"
Lin Chuyan thought about it. The script only said Wah Dee came to find Uncle Da; it didn't really specify any concrete actions...
He had originally planned to just walk over and say his Lines, but now that he thought about it, it did feel a bit "dry."
After all, this was Wah Dee and Uncle Da's first meeting. If he just walked up and spoke his Lines, it wouldn't immediately convey their relationship, would it? The audience might have a hard time accepting it.
You have to realize that in this story, they were like father and son. Wah Dee had grown up without a father and looked at Uncle Da like a father figure.
If they used the water in the bucket to mess around, as Uncle Da suggested, then people would be able to see at a glance that they had a good relationship, right?
You have to know that in the film, Uncle Da made a living by washing cars and preventing them from getting parking tickets. The water in the bucket was his tool for washing cars. Making a joke out of the other person's livelihood would certainly demonstrate how close they were.
Hmm, although it was a bit reckless for a young person, it fit Wah Dee's character design.
Of course, the main thing was that there wasn't too much water inside. It was easy to lift and effortless to pour out.
However, what surprised Lin Chuyan the most at this moment was Uncle Da's spur-of-the-moment inspiration to change the script so casually.
The other person certainly wouldn't have thought so much about it; it was just a simple script change, but it was surprisingly inspired.
That was truly impressive...
"Uncle, that's awesome!"
"What are you talking about? That's 'awesome'?"
"Alright, alright, I'll wait to see you give me something even more awesome."
Once the two of them settled on this part, Uncle Da went off to get ready.
The first shot of the first scene today was Uncle Da's.
This scene was very simple: a female police officer came over to issue a parking ticket for a car. Uncle Da saw it from afar, ran over, said all the nice things he could, and eventually helped the person avoid the ticket.
It was just such a simple matter; wasn't it just a few Lines? Surely the main thing was just to act a bit servile? How else could it be acted?
But because the person playing it was no ordinary actor, the final result was an Acting performance at the level of a Best Actor winner.
Lin Chuyan was very much looking forward to it.
When filming drama, he had learned a lot from Zhao Xiaojun, who played the emperor.
While filming the hovering blade, he often observed the scenes of his senior fellow apprentice and Zhao Jinpeng.
Filming the long season was fine; among the few people in the same group, he and his casual girlfriend Wang Xiaoyi had the best Acting skills.
And in the a moment of romance crew, the one whose Acting was most worth observing was undoubtedly Uncle Da.
At this moment, the camera was aimed at Uncle Da as he walked over from a distance.
"Quiet, camera ready! Action!"
