202: Chapter 202 Discrimination

It had been a long time since Lin Chuyan had played a lead role. Being this busy all of a sudden, he really wasn't used to it.

Before, he would either film for half a day, sometimes sleeping in, or finish early and go back to the hotel to rest. Even if he arrived early, he would have to wait a long time on set for his scenes.

It wasn't like now, where it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say everyone on set revolved around him.

"Nickname, let's take a 15-minute break before the next shot. Someone, get Nickname a chair."

"Brother Lin, come, sit. Let me touch up your makeup."

"Nickname, hold on, your clothes are a bit wrinkled. Let me adjust them."

"Nickname, stand a little to the left; the lighting is better there. Yes, that's it. Your expression needs to be more pronounced in the back for the camera to catch it."

Lin Chuyan was experiencing that mix of pain and pleasure.

Since he had chosen this profession, no one would dislike the feeling of being the center of attention, and he was no exception.

Fortunately, his performance justified all of this, and he had indeed won everyone's sincere affection.

First, it was his acting skills. Filming here, professional competence was always the top priority. Those who had initially looked down on him because of his handsome looks had long since changed their minds after these past few days.

Second, it was his dedication. During these days of filming, he hadn't been late even once. If he said he would be on set by 6 AM, he was there by 6 AM... Sometimes he arrived even earlier than the staff, and everyone saw that.

Third, it was his attitude toward the staff. Honestly, what people said online was one thing, but on set, in person, no one cared if you were being genuine or faking it. As the saying goes, judge by actions, not intentions; everyone only saw what you did. The fact was, Lin Chuyan was humble and polite to everyone, very down-to-earth, and almost too easygoing.

Good acting, dedicated, no diva behavior... Who wouldn't like someone like that? After spending this time together, Lin Chuyan had earned everyone's respect.

However, it wasn't without unpleasant little episodes.

That morning, after Lin Chuyan finished filming two scenes, he went to look for Xia Zhi, only to realize she wasn't around. He checked his phone and saw two missed calls from Xia Zhi from two hours ago.

Lin Chuyan quickly dialed back.

"What's wrong, Xia Zhi?"

"I tried to go in this morning, but I ran into someone who blocked me without a word and wouldn't let me in no matter what."

"Hmm?" Lin Chuyan was a bit confused. "Don't you come every day?"

He usually arrived on set before 6 AM. After Xia Zhi finished preparing his breakfast, she would go back to catch up on sleep and then arrive before 8 AM.

"This person... I don't know if he's ever seen me."

"Then why didn't you just give them my name?"

"The problem is, I spoke Mandarin to him, and he spoke Cantonese to me, insisting the whole time that he couldn't understand me."

Xia Zhi wasn't easy to fool. "But I don't believe it. I think he was deliberately making things difficult for me. Besides, even if I assume he didn't know me and didn't understand what I was saying, I even showed him your photo, and he didn't even acknowledge me."

"Did he give his job title?"

"He wouldn't dare, and besides, I couldn't understand him."

"What about his ID badge?"

"He kept it flipped over so I couldn't see. It was definitely intentional."

Lin Chuyan sneered, "We haven't offended anyone, so why would he deliberately make things difficult? It's likely he discriminates against people from the Mainland. So he's looking for a chance to cause trouble. He wouldn't dare mess with me, so he's sneakily causing trouble for you and, by extension, for me... Anyway, once it's over and he leaves, no one will know who anyone is."

"Brother, what do you think he's after?"

"If that's the kind of person he is, there's no reasoning with him. He's just disgusting, just discriminatory. Even if the King of Heaven came down, he'd still think he was superior. In reality, they're just cockroaches, which is quite laughable."

"Cockroaches?"

"Oh, it's a dialect word from where I'm from, meaning cockroach."

Lin Chuyan took advantage of the break to get up and move around. "Where are you? I'll come pick you up."

"I found a tea restaurant nearby and am sitting there playing on my phone."

"...Come back. And bring me a lemon tea with salted lime, thanks."

Meeting Xia Zhi outside the set and taking the drink, Lin Chuyan tilted his chin. "If you see him again, would you recognize him?"

"I'd recognize him even if he turned to ash. Oh right, I recorded it too."

"Damn, you knew to record it?"

"I kept my guard up." Xia Zhi laughed sheepishly. "It's a habit I picked up working in the fashion industry. Those people are so shady; I record every phone call and so on. Have to be prepared... Anyway, I was chased away once, and the second time I came back, I recorded it, and then he chased me away again."

Xia Zhi opened her phone and played it for him.

"I already told you I don't understand what you're saying... Shut up! Get lost, Mainland girl!"

Xia Zhi: "I feel like he was cursing at me, but I have no proof."

Lin Chuyan: "You have proof now. Yes, he was cursing at you. And yes, this is definitely discrimination."

"I want to hit someone." Xia Zhi was furious. "His attitude made me want to argue with him right then and there, but I was thinking about not affecting you, Brother, and not wanting headlines tomorrow about us acting like divas on set or having bad tempers."

Xia Zhi's fiery temper, being able to hold it in was quite impressive.

Lin Chuyan nodded. "It's okay, you did the right thing. I've got your back. Let's go. I'll stand up for you and help you vent your anger."

Even though he could easily argue with anyone, seeing Lin Chuyan want to stir up trouble, Xia Zhi actually wanted to let it go. "How about we forget it? It's not that big of a deal anyway."

Lin Chuyan walked toward the set without looking back. "Don't say that. Our little team only has three people. Good heavens, if someone bullies you, how is that any different from pooping on my head? Also, what do you mean it's not a big deal? Is discrimination not a big deal? Let's go. Arguing is something I'm best at. Keep up! Hurry up and keep up!"

Xia Zhi followed. "Brother, what are you planning to do?"

"If he apologizes properly, that's fine. Otherwise... I'm not giving anyone face."

Back on set, Lin Chuyan walked around while analyzing with Xia Zhi. "Look carefully, search well. I'll take you for a walk. The person who could stop you for no reason—let's check the security staff first, then I'll take you to see the floor manager, then we'll find the on-site producer."

"You got it."

So the two of them started looking for the person.

Lin Chuyan sent a WeChat to Director Mu Sheng and Du sir, briefly explaining the situation. As for what those two thought, he didn't care. Anyway, he was determined to find the person today and determined to argue; no one's persuasion would work.

15 minutes later.

Xia Zhi pointed her finger. "Brother, that's him."

"Which one?"

"That guy, the crew cut, with a mole on his chin."

"Let's go!"
