100: Chapter 100 Testing and Betting
For a moment, the entire crowd looked around, curious about who the person in charge was referring to.
Ronan, while curious about what color light he would produce, was here just to go through the motions, so naturally, he did not need to go on stage for the test.
To his surprise, there were quite a few people like him.
He saw three other people walk onto the stage from the crowd and followed suit.
"Four sirs, please wait over here."
The person in charge pointed out a spot for Ronan and the other three with a fawning expression.
That was the area where the apprentices who had already passed the selection test were located.
Adele looked at Ronan, who had been like an invisible person in the carriage earlier, and now, without even needing to take a test, was able to stand with those who had qualified. The implication was self-evident.
Her pride and resentment seemed to find an outlet; she pointed at Ronan and shouted, "Unfair!"
"Why is he allowed to?!"
This roar seemed to ignite the powder keg of the many rejected candidates, instantly resonating with everyone.
"Yeah, why are they allowed to?!"
"They should at least take the test—"
"Which of us here isn't of noble status? Why is there such discriminatory treatment—"
"Who here isn't a reservist—"
"And there's one who isn't even a reservist!"
The crowd was indignant.
Judging by Ronan's attire, everyone determined that his status was the lowest, so they all directed their hostility toward him.
"Quiet!"
The person in charge roared, making the eardrums of everyone below buzz.
But these rejected candidates were all of noble status and pampered; they wouldn't be easily intimidated.
This was indeed the case; these rejected candidates just hadn't been selected this time, which didn't mean they wouldn't be selected next time.
That was the point of being a reservist; they still had a chance to participate in the selection test again next year.
Because of this, the person in charge could at most pick out a few troublemakers to make an example of, but this was the first time he had seen such large-scale condemnation.
"These four sirs have already obtained admission qualifications and do not need to participate in the selection test," the person in charge patiently explained.
"Just because you say so?"
"How did they obtain it? Why do we have to be tested while they don't?!"
"Yeah, yeah—"
Seeing that the crowd wouldn't stop, the person in charge's face darkened, and he felt the urge to kill.
These pieces of trash, if it weren't for the extraordinary power protecting your families, I would have slaughtered you one by one.
"Why don't you just go test?"
Someone next to him said to Ronan; he had light green hair and a very gloomy smile.
Ronan decided to call him the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler.
"Why don't you go?" Ronan asked.
"Everyone is asking you to go test—"
The Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler was about to resort to moral blackmail, but to his surprise, Ronan nodded and said, "Sure."
Although he was very annoyed by the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler's motives, he also wanted to test and see what the result would be.
However, just going to test obediently felt like he was being further disgusted by the other party, so Ronan said to him, "Why don't we go test together and make a wager?"
"Wager on what?" The Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler seemed interested.
"Let's wager on whose color grade is higher. If the grades are the same, the one with the higher light intensity wins."
He had learned from an insider that the crystal ball's light grades, from lowest to highest, were: White, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange.
Only by reaching blue light could one qualify.
"Interesting," the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler laughed sinisterly. "What's the wager?"
"Depends on what you have and what I have."
"Anyway, I won't lose."
He had previously carefully unfolded his Spiritual Domain at the scene and found that none of the people present had Spiritual Power intensity that could compare to his own.
Even the highest one barely reached one-third of his level before he was strengthened.
And the crystal ball manifested the corresponding color based on the intensity of one's Spiritual Power.
Although he didn't know exactly what color he would produce, it would definitely be higher than the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler's.
Ronan took a concentrated elemental orb from his bag; violent energy surged within it. This was something he had exchanged with his points from manuscript fees before leaving the Arcane Arts Society.
"A concentrated elemental orb. What can you bring out?"
He looked at the other party with disdain, his mockery fully displayed. He might as well have said, "Hurry up and take out your most valuable item." The Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler obviously didn't think he would lose, so he took out a small shield and said, "My Dragonheart Shield is much more valuable than that thing of yours."
"How about now?" Ronan took out another concentrated elemental orb.
"So-so. Fine, let's do it."
The Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler walked toward the crystal ball first.
Seeing this, the people below immediately stopped their clamor and subconsciously held their breath.
They wanted to see with their own eyes just how big the gap was between themselves and those who could be admitted directly.
The Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler reached out and placed his palm on the crystal ball.
In an instant, the crystal ball shone with a rich purple light, which only stopped after quite some time.
A series of exclamations broke out from the crowd below.
Previously, when someone else was tested, a purple light had also appeared, but the light was weak and flickered very faintly.
However, that was the best score in the test so far.
But as soon as this already-admitted apprentice made a move, he directly surpassed this best score; the purple light shone brightly, leading everyone else.
Sure enough, those who had admission qualifications possessed strength far beyond others—
And for Ronan.
Once he saw that the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler had only that much strength yet produced a purple light, he could already guess what color light he would produce.
He walked forward calmly and said to the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler, who was still standing in front of the crystal ball and seemingly wanting to continue showing off, "Move aside, go rest after you're done testing."
"Still not giving up?" The other party said with an arrogant expression, mocking, "If you hand over those two orbs obediently now, I'll pretend nothing happened."
Ronan looked at him with a smile, feeling the pleasure of watching a clown perform.
Seeing that Ronan didn't react, the Green-Haired Gloomy Smiler sneered and stepped aside.
He didn't go too far, just stood on the side.
It was convenient for him to enjoy the other party's expression up close after they lost the wager.
When the crowd below saw someone else go up to test, and it was the person they had the most objections to, they all revealed expressions of watching a show.
The previous green-haired guy's strength was already that strong, and he actually dared to go up?
Ronan didn't care what others thought; he calmly reached out his right hand and placed it on the crystal ball.
Suddenly, a strange force invaded through his right hand, heading straight toward his mind.
Then, the crystal ball suddenly erupted with brilliant orange light; the intense light shot into the sky, spread with a boom, and instantly enveloped the entire scene.
Everyone felt a stinging pain in their eyes, and they all tightly closed their eyes, unable to see the scene in front of them anymore.
At this moment, what Ronan held in his palm seemed no longer to be a crystal ball, but a scorching, dazzling orange sunset.
At the same time.
As the strange force used Ronan's body as a springboard to invade his mind, a supreme pressure emanated from his godhead, instantly crushing it into nothingness.
Bang.
In an instant, the crystal ball disintegrated, and countless crystalline fragments splattered all over the ground.
The intense light dissipated, and there was dead silence below.
