12: Remember that, my dear magician!
A concentrated elemental orb is a product of a failed magic experiment, with multiple conflicting elements compressed inside.
Because of its powerful destructive force and unique triggering method, it has instead become a favorite consumable for certain Adventurers.
If it weren't for the high price and scarcity, an ordinary Adventurer could buy a thousand or so to set as traps and even hunt lord-level monsters alone.
Take the concentrated elemental orb in Wolf Fang's hand, for example.
Once detonated, it could instantly destroy the Necrotic Barrier and affect all the Goblins surrounding them outside.
As for those inside the barrier, it's hard to say if even a speck of dust would remain of them by then.
Shield Mountain felt the familiar sense of crisis, and cold sweat poured down from his forehead.
A reckless attack might not break the invisible barrier in front of the opponent, and if pushed too far, the opponent might choose to perish together with them.
Doing nothing and letting the opponent toy with them until death was worse than taking the opponent down with them; at least they could take one life with them.
“Hey, Wolf Fang,” Hawkeye spoke up from the side, “strictly speaking, you and I only have a bit of a misunderstanding. It doesn't really count as a conflict, does it?”
“You have the upper hand now and can kill your enemy with your own hands. There's no need to waste effort on those of us who have nothing to do with this, right?”
Hawkeye always believed that as long as one was strong, they should naturally let bygones be bygones with a smile.
To this, Ronan had nothing to say, only able to guess if the perception of the Grey Elf race had already deviated from the mainstream.
In any case, he wouldn't forget the predicament of being forced to risk making a wish just because the other party said 'it's a bit of a misunderstanding, don't take it to heart.'
“Nothing to do with this?” Wolf Fang treated the other's words as pure nonsense.
“Who was it that shot so many arrows at me just now?”
“It's all a mis—”
Hawkeye smiled awkwardly, and before he could finish, he lunged to the side, hurriedly dodging the Ghost Fire that came shooting at him.
This Ghost Fire did not have tracking properties. After brushing past Hawkeye, it scorched a hole with clean edges into the rock wall behind him.
Ronan's Spiritual Power net remained active at all times.
He keenly observed that every time Wolf Fang fired a Ghost Fire, his gaunt face would turn a shade paler.
Wolf Fang's class was Assassin, and he didn't have skills like Ghost Fire or the shield; these powers likely all came from the bead on his chest.
From this perspective, using power that wasn't one's own came with a price.
Hawkeye also noticed this. “The fireball didn't follow me. I thought I was dead for sure.”
“It seems your consumption is also very high...”
He quickly drew his bow and notched an arrow, the Corrosive Arrow ready to be released. “Then let's see who gives out first!”
“Swoosh.”
An arrow flew out and was deflected by the invisible barrier that appeared.
“Swoosh.” “Swoosh.”
Two more arrows in succession were deflected again.
The same scene played out once more.
Just as Hawkeye was about to prepare a triple shot, Wolf Fang suddenly held up the concentrated elemental orb and shouted toward the other side,
“Don't move! Do you want everyone to perish together?!”
Wolf Fang didn't care at all about the Corrosive Arrows Hawkeye fired; his attention was focused on Ronan the entire time.
Seeing Ronan quietly extend a finger with energy gathering at the tip, seemingly preparing to use Hawkeye's attack as cover to launch a sneak attack,
Wolf Fang immediately shouted to stop him.
Having been discovered, Ronan had no choice but to cancel the magic he was about to fire and shook his head helplessly.
Seeing this, the backs of Shield Mountain and the other two were completely drenched in cold sweat.
They didn't expect White Night to be so bold as to plan a secret move... if any accident happened, everyone would be turned to ashes together.
The situation fell into a stalemate once again.
Just then,
A grand white light, carrying an overbearing pressure, suddenly descended.
The white light penetrated the outer Necrotic Barrier, like pouring radiance, falling from above Wolf Fang's head and obliterating both.
Before Wolf Fang could even have the thought of detonating the concentrated elemental orb, he was turned to dust within the white light.
In just a moment, this Adventurer, who had used all sorts of schemes for revenge, was completely erased from the world.
The Necrotic Barrier popped like a bubble and shattered.
The shockwave knocked down the surrounding Goblins, and the subsequent pressure forced a path through them. From far to near, a stout figure walked out.
“As expected of Adventurers, still so unscrupulous, with no bottom line at all...”
A lazy voice sounded as the newcomer approached slowly.
He had slightly curly blonde hair and blue eyes. His handsome face carried a faint smile, and the silver armor he wore didn't look bulky at all; instead, it exerted immense mental pressure on everyone.
Because of his appearance, the Goblins, led by the Centurion, hurriedly retreated a long distance and lay in wait for an opportunity.
The commotion was so great that the young lady hiding behind the cave entrance couldn't help but peek out.
With one look, the young lady's eyes lit up, and she was instantly surprised and delighted.
“Lord Russell!”
“That's great! Lord Russell, I'm here!”
Ignoring everything else, the young lady jumped out of the cave and ran toward the newcomer, waving her hand.
The man looked at the young lady running toward him with a doting expression, and as she threw herself into his arms, the smile on his face gradually widened.
He reached out to rub the young lady's head, softly comforting the sobbing girl in his arms.
“Vien and Vis... are already... it's my fault...”
“It's not your fault, it's okay...”
He gently patted the young lady's back, his tone tender, making it hard to associate him with the image of someone who had just killed an Adventurer.
Shield Mountain and the others looked at each other, but seeing that Wolf Fang had been eliminated, they finally relaxed.
Ronan was not as optimistic as they were.
Ever since his Spiritual Power net discovered the newcomer, he felt that the other party was constantly watching them.
If there were any unusual movements, their end might be no different from Wolf Fang's.
The young lady whispered in the man's ear for a long time. Afterward, she pointed toward the cave entrance and walked over with him.
The maid had just jumped out of the cave when she saw the two people walking toward her.
She smiled, her tense shoulders finally relaxing.
“Russell Griffin, Vice Commander of the Dawn Mercenary Group, greets the County Princess.”
Russell's expression was solemn as he knelt on one knee in salute. “Your Ladyship, you should have called for reinforcements sooner.”
“Thank you for your timely rescue, Vice Commander Griffin.” The 'maid' changed her usual low-profile demeanor and calmly accepted Russell's salute.
This scene caused the members of the Adventurer team to gape in shock.
They never imagined that the person with the highest status among their Employers was the most inconspicuous maid who had been by the young lady's side.
The preferences of the nobility were indeed beyond the imagination of the common people.
“Your Ladyship, I think we should rejoin the main force first to avoid any unexpected risks.”
Russell stood up and lowered his head to ask for instructions. “What do you think?”
“As for these Adventurers...” Seeing that she didn't object, he then scanned the team members with an unfriendly gaze.
“Thanks to the help of these Adventurers. If you don't mind, could you help resolve the trouble around us?” The County Princess looked at Ronan in the distance, her eyes narrowing into two crescents.
“Of course, Your Ladyship. I will need to escort you safely to the main force before returning to help.”
Russell added, “I believe these brave Adventurers are sufficient to hold out until then.”
The County Princess nodded and took Amy's hand. “Let's go, Amy.”
When passing by Ronan, she suddenly stopped, a sweet smile on her face. “My name is Celia. Remember it, Mr. Mage.”
“Oh, I'm Ronan,” he replied.
