64: The true use of the Book of Magical Knowledge
The next day.
Ronan sat at his desk and put down the heavy book in his hand with some helplessness.
On the table in front of him lay two stacks of books, all of which were free knowledge he had spent a lot of effort finding yesterday.
Ronan actually didn't know much about the professions of mages after obtaining their ranks.
He had only learned in the past few days that there were different classifications for mages after they attained a rank.
"Elemental," "Necromancy," and "School of Life"—these major categories each had their own detailed branch paths.
He had pieced this together from fragments of conversation from various people.
Under these major categories, there were corresponding academies.
Based on the information currently known, the Elemental Academy had Senluo Fire Tongue, and the original owner of his body was a reserve apprentice of this Academy.
The Life Department Academy had the Holy Blood Ring, and Higgs was a reserve apprentice of this Academy.
As for the Necromancy Academy he was most concerned about, he couldn't find a single shred of information.
He only learned that Necromancers had multiple professional directions; the two currently known were Necromancer and Flesh Warlock.
That book, "Laying a Solid Foundation for Becoming a 'Flesh Warlock'", which Mayer had picked out and he had put back, actually contained no information related to Flesh Warlocks at all.
The book listed many methods to enhance the activity and strength of one's own flesh and blood.
It then uniformly added a sentence, "This is all to lay the foundation for becoming a Flesh Warlock," to force a connection, but there was no other useful information.
The significance of this book was that it let Ronan know that Necromancers had the profession of Flesh Warlock.
He rubbed his aching brow and put down this trashy book that was forcibly linked to Flesh Warlocks.
Mayer at the Second Floor Area registration desk seemed to know a lot about Necromancers; perhaps he could find a time to ask him... if he wasn't immersed in the sea of knowledge.
Ronan thought to himself.
Knock, knock.
A knock came from outside the room.
Getting up to open the door, he saw the protagonist of yesterday's supernatural incident, his neighbor from 761, New Lord, standing at the door looking slightly embarrassed.
"Are you feeling better?" Ronan asked.
"Much better... I'm here to apologize." New Lord's face flushed as he handed over a stack of paper materials. "I'm very sorry!"
"Darsi already explained everything to me. I thought you were an outsider. I'm truly sorry." New Lord bowed deeply.
"It's fine. Oh, right." Ronan took out the wand he had put away and handed it to the other party. "I picked up what you dropped and brought it back for you."
"That's great! I was still wondering where to find it... This Phoenix Feather Wand cost me 200 Gold Dragons. Thank you so much."
Hearing this, Ronan's hand almost slipped while handing over the wand.
New Lord happily placed the paper materials in Ronan's arms and took back his weapon.
"What is this?"
Ronan quickly shifted his attention to prevent his gaze from sticking to the 200 Gold Dragon stick.
"This is my latest academic paper, another work in the field of Spiritual Power," New Lord said with a face full of pride.
Although he didn't know why the other party would use an academic paper as a gift, since it was well-intentioned, Ronan accepted it.
He planned to familiarize himself with the Academy's rules later to avoid any more misunderstandings.
"My code name is New Lord, a Level 3 student who just got promoted yesterday. I'm your neighbor."
New Lord politely extended his hand.
"Black Day. I just joined the Academy yesterday. If I have any questions that trouble you in the future, please bear with me."
Ronan reached out and shook the other's hand in a friendly manner, making one feel as if they were bathed in a spring breeze.
When it comes to etiquette, I, Ronan, am second to none.
"Aren't you... going to take a look right away?" New Lord pointed expectantly at the academic paper in his arms.
"Uh, okay. Please come in." Ronan stepped aside.
He didn't quite understand his neighbor's intentions. Did he want it back after Ronan finished reading?
Once inside, he simply sat back down at his desk and hurriedly began reading New Lord's academic paper.
"'Research on the Impact of Spiritual Power Locking Methods in Actual Combat,' Author: King Over the World. The Spiritual Power locking method discussed in this paper is..."
"Why is this author..." Ronan pointed at the author's name on the paper.
"That's my pen name. Some people don't like using their code names to publish academic papers, so they take a pen name. Over time, everyone started doing it," New Lord explained.
Ronan nodded and continued reading.
It had to be said that New Lord truly deserved his promotion to a Level 3 student.
His academic paper was a level above the books Ronan had seen in the Second Floor Area earlier.
At least Ronan didn't see any fictional or exaggerated parts; the content was indeed about different locking methods for Spiritual Power, and it was very organized and logical.
So, he wanted to search for knowledge related to Spiritual Power in the book of magical knowledge in his mind to verify a 'Special Mark Locking Method' in the paper.
To his surprise, at this moment, the book of magical knowledge had already automatically unfolded and was recording the content of the paper.
Not only that, Ronan found that the content recorded on the pages was different from the method in the paper.
Upon careful comparison, the initial content on the pages was similar to that in the paper.
But gradually, the two began to diverge significantly.
Among the methods described in the paper, a Special Mark Locking Method was mentioned.
It could quickly plant a Spiritual Power mark on an enemy, and its concealment and sensing range were quite good.
However, the method now described by the book of magical knowledge was a Spiritual Power seed that would continuously grow.
This seed could covertly absorb the enemy's Spiritual Power ripples and grow without limit.
Through self-growth, the concealment and sensing range of the Spiritual Power seed would also increase accordingly.
This looked like an optimization of the method in the paper.
So this was the true usage of the book of magical knowledge.
Wait, since it could do this, then could it... His gaze turned to the books he had scrounged on the desk.
Could it also continuously optimize advanced, essential knowledge based on a large amount of low-level knowledge?
Thinking of this, Ronan was filled with joy and couldn't wait to start trying it right away.
But before that... "Impressive, as expected of a Level 3."
He now looked at this somewhat unreliable neighbor with new eyes and gave him a thumbs-up in praise.
"Hahaha, you certainly have good taste."
New Lord handsomely flicked his robe and said heartily,
"Stick with me from now on, and I'll make sure you live the good School of Life."
"Well, thank you," Ronan laughed.
He decided to give this optimized Spiritual Power Seed Method back to New Lord.
If it weren't for his paper, he wouldn't have known how long it would take to discover the true usage of the book of magical knowledge.
"Reading your paper has given me a burst of inspiration. Help me see if my idea is correct..."
Ronan intended to teach him indirectly in as tactful a way as possible.
"No problem, go ahead and try! I've got your back!" New Lord thumped his chest and promised.
He was finding this new neighbor more and more agreeable.
To be able to have inspiration based on the paper so quickly, the other party's savvy, if not gifted, could at least be considered promising.
"Referring to this mark, I thought of a seed..." Ronan spoke eloquently, moving from the simple to the profound as he—
—presented the 'Spiritual Power Seed Method' optimized by the book of magical knowledge to New Lord.
At the beginning, New Lord would still praise Ronan from time to time.
By the time he heard the later parts, he had sat up straight, his expression serious, listening intently to the new method Ronan was teaching.
He calculated continuously in his mind and finally simply started experimenting with Spiritual Power.
In the end, he actually managed to obtain a Spiritual Power seed that could grow limitlessly on its own.
"You..."
New Lord was a bit dazed, his gaze wandering back and forth over Ronan, and only after a long while did he slowly speak,
"You're simply a monster."
