63: Paranormal events in the second-floor area
New Lord had just been promoted in academic rank today and had finally managed to find a copy of "Pink Lady," so he wanted to celebrate.
While he was carefully appreciating it, an outsider who didn't look like a student suddenly popped out of nowhere,
giving him quite a fright.
He had originally planned to give the person a verbal scolding and then hand them over to the registration desk; he might even get a reward.
Who would have thought the other party's attitude would be so rampant that they actually ignored him completely.
If he dared to ignore him now, he would dare to ignore the administration, the Academy, and even the entire Duchy in the future!
As a newly promoted Rank 3 student, New Lord felt he had to teach the other party a lesson.
His Spiritual Secret Art had a unique advantage in searching for and locking onto enemies.
Not only did it have superior search speed, but once an enemy was locked, it was even harder for them to escape.
This was the skill New Lord took pride in; it was through this secret art that his academic rank had successfully risen to Rank 3.
However, when he had already locked onto the target and arrived at the scene, ready to use his Wand to teach the other party a lesson,
this arrogant outsider actually disappeared from his Spiritual Perception.
But he was clearly standing right in front of him.
He was pointing a finger at him, with dangerous energy constantly gathering at the fingertip.
Spiritual Power wouldn't lie, but vision was a different story.
No wonder his appearance was so abrupt and he didn't communicate with anyone... New Lord suddenly realized, and then a chill surged into his heart,
"Ghost!!"
He shouted in terror and turned around in a panic, but accidentally tripped himself and slammed his head into a nearby bookshelf,
even flinging the Wand from his hand.
But he didn't care at all, struggling with hands and feet as he scrambled and crawled out of the Second Floor Area.
No matter how large the Second Floor Area was, his sudden shout in the quiet environment caused a small commotion.
But Ronan didn't pay attention to any of that.
He was wondering why this student, who had suddenly wanted to attack him, had inexplicably run away like he was crazy.
No matter how good the shielding effect of Concealment was, it only made him undetectable; it didn't add a fear effect.
However, the small wooden stick that fell on the ground caught his attention.
He stepped forward and picked up the thin, short wooden stick that the other party had used as a weapon, examining it carefully.
The small wooden stick was somewhat similar to Ash Leaf's Short Cane; a faint, strange energy swirled around it, which might be related to so-called Magic Power.
Other than that, Ronan couldn't see anything else special about it.
He simply put it into his bag, intending to return it to the other party if they crossed paths again.
After some sifting through gold in the mud, he had over twenty books on hand that were related to Necromancy Magic or souls.
These were books he had flipped through briefly and found relatively reliable, without seeing too much bizarre content at first glance.
"Hello, I'd like to borrow these books."
Ronan went to the Second Floor Area registration desk and showed his identification, an Arcane Arts Society Badge.
The Badge was palm-sized, with his code name 'Black Day' and academic rank 'Rank 0' recorded on the front,
and on the back was the representative symbol of the Arcane Arts Society, the Eye of Arcana, outlined with smooth lines.
This had been given to him by Darsi after completing the membership process.
At this time, a white-haired old man nearly fifty years old sat at the registration desk, holding a book and reading it with great interest.
"Hello?" Seeing no reaction, Ronan raised his voice and called out again.
The old man remained unmoved.
Ronan suspected the old man was targeting him; the Arcane Arts Society wouldn't hire a deaf person to read books at the registration desk.
"Old man, if you don't respond, I'll just assume the registration is finished."
As Ronan spoke, he prepared to turn around and leave.
"Young man, why so impatient?" the white-haired old man said leisurely.
"Can't you show some consideration for a scholar immersed in knowledge?"
Ronan leaned over to glance at the reading material in the other's hand; he didn't see the title, but the cover featured a scantily clad, large-breasted cute girl, which was particularly eye-catching.
Old man, is this "knowledge" of yours legitimate?
"I want to borrow these books," he repeated, placing a stack of books directly in front of the old man.
He didn't know what was going on with the books here; the content wasn't great, but the packaging materials used were top-tier.
After holding the stack of books for only a short while, his arms were already starting to feel a faint ache and weakness.
"Oh, another mage heading down the path of necromancy."
The old man recorded the titles of the books one by one and said,
"If you want to develop along the Necromancy Branch, you should stop involving yourself in the flesh branch."
As he spoke, he pulled out a book titled "Laying a Solid Foundation for Becoming a 'Flesh Warlock'" from the stack and set it aside.
"Thank you, old man." Ronan politely put the book back. "I'm just taking a look."
Seeing this, the old man just shook his head helplessly and then said,
"Just call me Mayer; don't call me 'old man.' Do I look that old?"
Ronan was stunned upon hearing this.
He carefully examined the other's full head of white hair and wrinkled skin, which was covered in age spots.
Otherwise?
Just then, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance of the Second Floor Area.
"Darsi, you've come at the right time. Come and help me carry these books." Ronan looked pleased; the burden of knowledge could be lightened a bit.
"No problem." Darsi took ten of the books and bid farewell to the old man. "We're leaving now, Lord Mayer."
"Darsi, why are you back again?"
Walking on the way back, Ronan couldn't help but ask.
"My Lord, I heard that a supernatural incident just occurred here on the second floor. I was afraid you didn't know, so I came to warn you." Darsi's voice was trembling slightly.
"What supernatural incident?"
Ronan slightly regretted not keeping his Spiritual Field expanded at all times; otherwise, he wouldn't have missed something like this.
"It's said that someone discovered an Abnormal Soul Entity in a hidden corner..."
"The soul entity feeds on knowledge, cannot be perceived by spirit, and will launch indiscriminate attacks on anyone who gets close."
"That dangerous?" Ronan was surprised.
It seemed that the Arcane Arts Society wasn't absolutely safe either.
Darsi nodded in deep agreement, and his pace quickened slightly.
It wasn't until the two of them had completely left the Second Floor Area
that he breathed a small sigh of relief and turned to ask Ronan:
"My Lord, you've borrowed so many books at once; are you planning to publish an Academic Paper?"
"Academic Paper?" Ronan suspected he had misheard.
"To raise your academic rank, you must publish an Academic Paper as research into academia—that is, your own secret art."
Darsi added, "There are detailed introductions to these matters in the materials."
Ronan nodded; he had left the relevant materials on the bed at his residence.
"My Lord, the student living next door to you in '761' knows a lot about this. His academic rank was just raised to Rank 3, so he would surely be willing to share his successful experience."
Darsi asked considerately, "Would you like me to introduce you?"
Ronan still wanted to look at the knowledge he had scavenged from the sea of filth first.
But before he could refuse, Darsi had already begun talking to someone walking ahead of them.
"What a coincidence, Lord New Lord! Let me introduce a newly joined student lord to you; he's your new neighbor."
It took New Lord a long time to calm down.
He had already reported his encounter with the Abnormal Soul Entity; the Academy would surely send an Arcane Apprentice to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Hearing Darsi's voice now, he finally regained his usual calm posture.
"Oh, it's Darsi. Su... re..."
New Lord turned around and noticed the 'Abnormal Soul Entity' standing beside Darsi.
Suddenly, he felt his blood run cold as a massive wave of fear hit him head-on, burying him completely.
Before he could finish his sentence, he naturally fainted.
