22: That's a different price.

Is the purchasing power of 1 silver wolf really that high?

Looking at the food the villagers of Jiuwan Village prepared for themselves, it wasn't particularly lavish... The rewards for both tasks were only 1 silver wolf each, so there are two possibilities:

Either the villagers couldn't afford more money and planned to organize their own rescue team after finding clues;

Or the villagers were too greedy and directly pocketed the huge sum Ronan gave them.

Combined with Parker mentioning that someone in the village was thrown onto the street by the Adventurers Guild, Ronan guessed it was probably because of this task.

"Did someone from your village go missing?" Ronan looked at Parker.

"Seems like..." Parker's eyes narrowed, stammering a bit, "They say they encountered something unclean..."

Seeing he didn't want to talk more, Ronan didn't press further and changed the question instead,

"By the way, how much is a loaf of bread?"

"Huh?" Parker couldn't keep up with such a big jump in topics, "Oh, 1 iron badger."

The iron badger is also part of the copper eagle system, an iron coin with a badger head engraved on it. What Parker gave him when entering the city earlier was 1 iron badger.

Ronan learned that this world's copper eagle system exists in the form of metal coins.

From highest to lowest value: Gold Dragon, silver wolf, copper eagle, iron badger.

The exchange rates are: 1 Gold Dragon = 100 silver wolves, 1 silver wolf = 100 copper eagles, 1 copper eagle = 100 iron badgers.

In terms of purchasing power, 1 iron badger is equivalent to 10 yuan from his previous life.

In other words, when Ronan asked the village chief to help find someone to guide him, he casually tipped the equivalent of a hundred thousand yuan.

Holy crap, throwing around a hundred thousand gold just like that!

After learning the prices, Ronan suddenly felt a tightness in his chest, a breath he couldn't quite swallow.

No wonder the villagers reacted that way when he took out silver coins as a tip... They saw me as a fat sheep to be fleeced.

However, a hundred thousand yuan reward was said in the guild to be like tossing scraps to a beggar. The per capita consumption in this other world is just too high.

Ronan's task screening speed subtly quickened a bit.

"Investigation of Missing Person Clues in Jiuwan Village, Reward: 1 silver wolf, Points: 0, No acceptance conditions, No other restrictions." [wish power Gain: 1]

"Long-term Purchase of moon sleep flowers, Reward: 1 silver wolf per plant, Points: 0, No acceptance conditions, No other restrictions." [wish power Gain: 0]

"Clear Abandoned Castle Gargoyles, Reward: 3 silver wolves, Points: 2, No acceptance conditions, No other restrictions." [wish power Gain: 1]

After some screening and consideration, Ronan finally chose these three tasks.

Among them, the Jiuwan Village task was just incidental.

The route to the abandoned castle passes by Jiuwan Village. He planned to check it out when he had time, since even a mosquito's leg is still meat.

moon sleep flower is an auxiliary material for magic potions, mostly distributed in the edge areas of the Monster Forest.

Ronan vaguely remembered seeing a depression full of moon sleep flowers when he left the Monster Forest earlier.

Spend some time searching, and with good luck, he might earn a lot of money for free.

Among the three tasks, clearing the Gargoyles was currently the most suitable for him.

Gargoyles are fantastical creatures that pretend to be stone during the day and transform into fierce guards at night.

Some high-level mages like to place a few Gargoyles as guards in their residences or tombs to defend against intruders or grave robbers.

Gargoyles possess extremely strong physical defense but almost no magic resistance.

Facing certain elemental magics, such as high-temperature and light-attribute magic, they can easily suffer irreversible damage.

The only magic Ronan has mastered is the high-brightness, high-heat "Scorching Ray," which perfectly counters Gargoyles.

He actually wanted to settle down first, thoroughly digest the original owner's magical knowledge, and then explore the mysteries of Adventurer tasks and wish power.

But he was penniless and had no foundation to settle down.

Can't even afford food, why not fight?

"Miss Alice, I'd like to accept these three tasks."

Ronan handed the recorded task numbers to the receptionist who blushed whenever she spoke to him.

"Alright, Adventurer-sama, please provide your codename and your team's number."

When Alice said this, Ronan realized he didn't know what the team number was.

"Codename 'White Night,' team number... can you check for me? I'm a bit unclear."

"No problem, White Night-sama. Your team... Huh?"

"Team 408, confirmed by the task publisher, due to force majeure, all team members perished..."

Alice read it several times, saying with surprise and doubt.

"The Employer was picked up early, unaware of the follow-up. Another teammate and I survived by chance..."

Ronan explained, instantly realizing this was likely done by the mercenary Russell.

Coming specifically to the Adventurers Guild to register the team as all dead—once the team's status is reactivated, the other party would know if any survivors existed.

"Should I reactivate the latest status of Team 408 for you, to facilitate accepting tasks as a team?" Alice asked considerately.

"No need, let my other teammate handle it. Please accept the tasks under my individual name." All three tasks were chosen for himself.

Leave drawing aggro to Evil Axe, since he's the frontline melee.

Can't have a mage like me tanking the damage, right?

Thinking this, Ronan couldn't help but wonder where Evil Axe had gone.

Time-wise, he should have arrived here long ago, yet no news... Could it be he's also waiting for me to reactivate the team's status?

That would be quite telepathic.

Ronan decided to keep a low profile in Moonless City from now on, otherwise if he bumped into some mercenary acquaintance, it'd be hard to handle.

Develop first, then find a chance to kill this Vice Commander of the Dawn Mercenary Group.

"By the way, what's the relationship between the Adventurers Guild and other major organizations?" Ronan consulted Alice.

"White Night-sama, are you asking for guild-related intelligence?" Alice took a pair of glasses from her pocket, putting them on and transforming into a salesperson, introducing,

"I have various tiers here, the lowest tier price is 200 points."

"Since your team status hasn't been updated yet, using team points for payment is temporarily unsupported."

"But your personal points suffice. Would you like to use points to exchange for intelligence?"

Ronan thought about it and felt it necessary to understand the relationships between Moonless City's major powers and the Adventurers Guild.

To prevent another awkward situation like 'the enemy stands before you, thinking they're here to rescue.'

"How many personal points do I have?"

"Your personal points: 374, team points: 23,196."

How much?

Over twenty thousand team points, personal only a few hundred.

Evil Axe, hurry back and reactivate the team!

"Exchange for the lowest tier." Ronan gritted his teeth, thinking to himself,

Don't underestimate the lowest-tier intelligence; it still costs 200 points.

After payment, Alice pushed a paper document in front of Ronan.

Parker behind him had tactfully retreated far away from the start.

"Moonless City Adventurers Guild Branch, Superior Organization: , Person in Charge: , ..."

"Current Faction Relations:

"Hostile Faction: Mercenary Blood Pact Moonless City Sub-Pact;

"Friendly Faction: Arcane Arts Society Moonless City Branch;

"Neutral Factions: Dwarf Workshop, Elf Trading House..."

That's it?

Such a simple introduction costs 200 points?! Why don't you just rob people?!

Ronan felt like the sky had fallen. Pointing at the '*' area on the document, he asked Alice,

"Why isn't the content here displayed?"

"That's a different price, White Night-sama." Alice adjusted her glasses.
