157: Departure, buffet restaurant
Night.
Jiang Lan lay on the bed, looking out through the open window.
He was currently in an Inn within Lingtian City.
City Lord Ling Tian had tried to persuade him to stay at the City Lord's Mansion, but Jiang Lan refused.
Staying at someone else's place would make him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Moreover, he had already asked most of the questions he needed to, and he now had a basic understanding of the demons outside and of Lingtian City itself.
He planned to rest for one night, buy some necessities tomorrow, and then leave Lingtian City directly to head beyond Lingtian Pass.
Jiang Lan had confirmed that the token he held was the credential for joining the Ten Thousand Demons Hall.
So, next, he only needed to transform himself into a demon.
Jiang Lan glanced out the window again, then got up from the bed.
He walked to the window, closed it, and then went to the bronze mirror in the room.
He casually took off his clothes and placed them aside.
“Hoo…”
Jiang Lan exhaled, then his mind stirred.
His figure instantly grew taller, from about 1.8 meters to roughly 2.3 meters.
Not only did his height change, but Jiang Lan's body also rapidly became covered in a layer of bright silver fur.
His muscles swelled up like balloons.
And Jiang Lan's original head transformed into a wolf's head covered in silver fur.
His iron-gray eyes stared at the bronze mirror, and with each breath, faint, imperceptible white Qi shot out from his nostrils.
Looking at himself in the bronze mirror, Jiang Lan's wolf face revealed a satisfied smile.
This form was one he had adopted based on the appearance of a Black Wolf Demon.
However, he had changed the black fur on his body to silver.
This not only made him look much cleaner, but his wolf face also subtly revealed a hint of handsomeness.
When he bared his teeth, the slender fangs in his mouth no longer seemed so frightening.
Jiang Lan was very pleased with his new form.
Though he didn't know whether his face, viewed through the aesthetic of demons, would be considered beautiful or ugly.
But who cared about them? As long as Jiang Lan himself found it pleasing to the eye, that was enough.
Jiang Lan lowered his head and turned his hand in front of him.
His original human hand had also transformed into a half-human, half-wolf appearance.
The palm was still the same palm, its shape almost identical to his original hand, but its periphery was entirely covered with a layer of silvery-white fur, and the position of his original fingernails had lengthened considerably, reflecting chilling silver gleams under the candlelight in the room.
The sharpness of these claws was such that if they pierced a body, it would likely result in a transparent, bloody hole.
After admiring his new appearance for a while, Jiang Lan reverted to his human form.
The silvery-white fur completely disappeared, and his swollen muscles deflated once more.
Although described as deflated, among humans, Jiang Lan's physique was still considered top-notch.
It just couldn't compare to a demon's.
He glanced at the bronze mirror again, a smile appearing on Jiang Lan's face.
His human form was still more aesthetically pleasing.
Even if the wolf demon state looked appealing, it still couldn't compare to his original self, which was more comfortable to look at.
In fact, Jiang Lan had considered transforming into something else at first.
However, he ultimately gave up on the idea.
Firstly, the wolf demon form was the one he was most familiar with.
No other demon had left as deep an impression on him as the Black Wolf Demon he first encountered.
Secondly, wolf demons are very common in the demon world.
Other types, such as Jiao Demons or Black Demons, are relatively rarer.
Wolf demons are one of the least conspicuous types of demons.
After all, Jiang Lan wanted to join the Ten Thousand Demons Hall, not truly to enter a Sect and apprentice under a master.
Even if that was a part of the reason, the more important aspect was that after joining the Ten Thousand Demons Hall, he would be surrounded by demons.
Then, wouldn't he be able to kill whoever he wanted?
Jiang Lan could already foresee his lifespan increasing wildly, as if it were worthless.
To other humans, the Ten Thousand Demons Hall was a den of devils.
But to Jiang Lan, the Ten Thousand Demons Hall was not a den of devils at all; instead, it was a giant buffet restaurant.
Whether he wanted abalone or bear paw, everything was available.
However, despite saying so, if he were truly to go alone to a place full of gathered demons, it would be impossible to say he wasn't nervous at all.
Slightly nervous.
Jiang Lan lay back on the bed and yawned.
Whether he was nervous or not, it didn't matter anymore.
He had already arrived; now it was just the final push. He couldn't possibly just turn around and go back to Yan Country, could he?
Jiang Lan's mind was filled with scattered thoughts.
But soon, these chaotic thoughts transformed into drowsiness.
He turned over in bed and fell into a deep sleep... The night passed without incident.
The next morning, Jiang Lan woke up early.
He didn't have much to carry with him, just the clothes on his back.
However, if he transformed into a demon, the black robe he was wearing now would be unwearable.
The height difference was significant; if he transformed into a wolf demon while wearing these clothes, it would be no different from wearing children's clothes.
So, Jiang Lan had to go to a tailor's shop first.
After that, he would buy some dry rations or similar items to take with him.
Although he could now sustain himself without food, as a human, he had developed habits over many years.
If he went without food for a long time, Jiang Lan would still feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Besides that, there was nothing else to prepare.
Jiang Lan tentatively made his plans, called a waiter from the Inn to bring him some water, and after a simple wash, he walked out of the Inn's main entrance.
Jiang Lan oriented himself and headed straight for the nearby market.
He had already scouted the way when he arrived yesterday, so even though he wasn't familiar with the area now, he wouldn't get lost.
After walking for a while, Jiang Lan arrived at a relatively bustling street.
Both sides of the street had all sorts of vendors, making it very lively.
It wasn't much different from the street outside the Demon Suppression Division in Yan Capital City.
However, most of the people in Yan Capital City were ordinary folk.
Here, on the other hand, everyone was a Martial Artist, with very few ordinary people.
In fact, in the nearly two days he had been here, Jiang Lan hadn't seen any.
In Lingtian City, even peddlers were Martial Artists with Realms.
This street was no exception.
There were many stalls on both sides of the road.
However, the items sold at these stalls were quite novel to Jiang Lan.
Most of them were parts from demons.
There were also a few weapons and armor.
Jiang Lan's mouth twitched slightly as he looked at these items.
Good heavens, any one of these, if found in Great Yan, would probably warrant a death sentence.
Illegally possessing weapons and armor was a serious crime.
Let alone openly selling them.
However, looking at the expressions of the people on the street, Jiang Lan noticed they seemed to have long grown accustomed to it.
