23: If you can't be a good person, you can't wrongly accuse good people.

Jiang Lan sat up from his bed, furrowing his brow slightly.

He didn't come?

Could it be that the sound he heard last night in the Demon Suppression Division was really just his imagination?

After thinking for a long time, Jiang Lan couldn't figure it out, so he simply got out of bed, walked into the courtyard, roughly washed up, and headed towards the Demon Suppression Division.

On the street next to the Demon Suppression Division, a familiar voice rang out.

"Handsome young man, come on in and have some fun ~"

Jiang Lan looked up and glanced at the pavilion, seeing six or seven brightly dressed girls.

One of them, seeing his gaze, even winked at him.

Silently lowering his head, Jiang Lan activated Flood Dragon Swim, and in a few breaths, he walked into the Demon Suppression Division.

"Boss!"

Three voices rang out in unison.

Jiang Lan looked ahead.

There were three people in front of him; the leader was thin and looked somewhat shrewd and capable.

To his left and right were a short, stout young man and a tall, thin young man, respectively.

The short, stout one had a face full of smiles, his already small eyes reduced to two narrow slits.

The tall, thin one, however, was stern and unsmiling, with a rigid expression, looking like a rigid scholar.

These three were the three Civilian Servant under his command.

Yu Zhi, Zhang Wen, Zhao Wu.

Jiang Lan nodded slightly.

"Yu Zhi, come with me to the Interrogation Room. Zhang Wen, Zhao Wu, you two go help me clock in."

Saying that, he tossed out a small piece of silver, "After clocking in, go to South Street and buy some breakfast."

Zhang Wen grinned as he reached out and caught the silver, "Got it."

Jiang Lan said no more, gave Yu Zhi a look, and the two walked together towards the Interrogation Room... Interrogation Room C6.

"Sir! Sir, I am innocent, sir! Sir, please be fair, sir!"

Inside the Interrogation Room, the prisoner, tied to a large wooden stake, heard the commotion outside and immediately struggled while shouting loudly outwards.

"Shut your mouth."

Yu Zhi walked in front, kicked the iron bars, then turned to Jiang Lan and said:

"Boss, we're here."

"Wait for me at the door."

Saying that, Jiang Lan used a key to unlock the iron bars outside the Interrogation Room, pulled them open, and walked inside.

"Sir, this humble one has been wronged!"

Jiang Lan heard this, sat on a small stool, and looked up, scrutinizing the prisoner.

"Your old mother, wife, and a pair of children all died by your hand. What injustice do you have?"

Hearing Jiang Lan's words, the prisoner stopped crying out about injustice and lowered his head, looking as if all the strength had been drained from his body.

After a while, he suddenly began to sob.

Seeing him in this state, Jiang Lan's eyes narrowed slightly.

After a moment, he spoke:

"Stop crying. Tell me, what is your injustice?"

The prisoner sobbed even harder, and a few seconds later, he began to wail uncontrollably.

Jiang Lan twitched his lips and stood up from the small stool.

Walking to a corner of the Interrogation Room, he picked out a relatively light rattan whip and held it in his hand.

It was called light, but only in comparison to other torture instruments; in reality, a strike to the body would still cause the skin to split and flesh to tear.

He came to the prisoner's side and flicked his wrist.

"Snap—"

The prisoner's chest clothing suddenly burst open, and a long bloody mark appeared on his chest.

His crying stopped instantly, replaced by a wail.

"Ugh ah..."

"Snap—"

"Snap—"

Jiang Lan said nothing, delivered two more lashes, then casually threw the rattan whip on the ground and sat back down on the small stool.

"Can you speak properly now?"

The prisoner's chest heaved up and down for a long time before he finally struggled to raise his head.

"This humble one... has been wronged..."

"Whether you've been wronged or not, I don't know." Jiang Lan raised his eyelids, "But right now, I can give you a chance to explain."

"My... my family was not... killed by this humble one..."

Jiang Lan's eyes flashed.

"Elaborate."

"The day before yesterday... the day before yesterday, this humble one was sleeping at home. During the night, I suddenly heard a commotion. Just as I was about to get up to check, I felt my whole body go weak, and somehow I fainted."

The man's voice carried a hint of a sob:

"When I woke up the next morning, this humble one... this humble one only then discovered..."

"Your family was all dead?"

"Yes! Sir, please investigate clearly! Give this humble one justice!" The prisoner cried and wailed.

Jiang Lan suddenly smiled.

"Justice will be given to you, but before that, first explain what's going on with the sachet on your body?"

The case file stated that the prisoner had a sachet token of the Green Lantern Sect on his person.

That's why he was directly sent to the Demon Suppression Division.

If it were an ordinary murder of an entire family, he would have been sent directly to the yamen.

"This humble one doesn't know... After I woke up, the sachet was already on me. This humble one doesn't know what happened, Sir, please be fair, Sir!"

Jiang Lan stood up, gave the prisoner a deep look, then walked out of the Interrogation Room without a word.

This person is most likely lying.

Even if his family's death was truly an accident, he could never be as innocent as he claimed.

Even if he truly wasn't involved, he definitely knows who did it.

Although he acted very convincingly and his emotions were on point, what this person said sounded as if it had been rehearsed beforehand.

He spoke a long string of words without even a moment's hesitation.

The most crucial thing was that the logic and coherence were still quite clear.

This was a bit absurd.

As a normal person, waking up in the morning to find an entire family lying dead at home, even if they didn't immediately break down, their mind would likely be affected.

Especially after being locked in this dark and sunless prison, under a double blow, being able to speak clearly would be good enough; how could he possibly narrate things so coherently?

Thus, Jiang Lan was ninety percent certain that the man had a problem.

He just didn't have substantial evidence yet.

Although he couldn't be a good person, he couldn't wrong a good person, could he?

The moment he walked out of the Interrogation Room, a light screen appeared before Jiang Lan.

【Suppressing an un-entered demon, gained three days of Lifespan.】

【Remaining Lifespan: one hundred sixty-seven years.】

Jiang Lan twitched his lips.

Sure enough.

He wasn't wrong.

People can lie, but the System would never lie to him.

However, these three days of Lifespan... better than nothing.

He had no intention of returning to the Interrogation Room, but instead tossed the key to Yu Zhi, saying:

"Lock it."

"Got it!"

Yu Zhi took two steps forward and locked the iron bars.

"Boss, where to?"

Jiang Lan looked down at his flat stomach.

"Go back and eat."

...Inside the office.

On the table were a dozen steaming meat buns, as well as some rice porridge and pickles.

"Boss... here's the change."

Zhang Wen grinned as he placed a few copper coins on the table.

Jiang Lan glanced at him.

"Just say what you want."

He had never actively asked for this change.

Even if it was given to him, he would tell people to take it back.

There was no reason for someone to run an errand for free.

But today, Zhang Wen was acting out of character, so there was no need to think; he definitely had something to say.

"Hehe... Boss, you're brilliant. This humble one does have something to say."

Zhang Wen rubbed his hands with a smile.

"Speak freely." Jiang Lan casually picked up a meat bun, then motioned to the others, "Sit down and eat together."

Zhang Wen sat on the side.

"You've also met, I have an elder sister at home..."

"Hmm?"
