168: First ascent of Yellow Demon Peak

Two hours later.

Jiang Lan passed through the city and arrived at the city gate.

It was somewhat different from what he had imagined.

Normal cities usually have four exits: east, south, west, and north.

After leaving the city, there would be an official road.

However, after Jiang Lan emerged from the side of the city closest to the mountain peak, he realized that this place was a bit different.

Outside the city walls, there were also many buildings, and they actually looked much more luxurious than the buildings inside the city.

Moreover, the number of demons coming and going was only more, not less, than inside the city.

These demons also had a distinct characteristic.

Their attire and appearance were generally a notch higher than the demons inside the city.

Jiang Lan even saw a fox demon holding a folding fan and wearing a brocade robe.

If one didn't look at his head and only at his attire, they might mistake him for a Young Master from some wealthy family.

At this moment, in front of Jiang Lan, was a straight brick road, with many buildings standing on both sides.

At the end of the road was the mountain peak he had seen earlier.

As he got closer, Jiang Lan could see that many buildings were also situated on the mountain.

The architectural style was exquisite, not at all like something built by demons; instead, it looked much more magnificent than the buildings inside human cities.

Jiang Lan withdrew his gaze and looked at both sides of the road.

Each building on either side had banners hanging, and they were all shops.

The shop names were also very simple.

'Restaurant' 'Inn'

And under the banners, there were drawings.

The restaurant had a wine jar drawn, while the Inn had a bed drawn.

Jiang Lan twitched the corner of his mouth.

He had already guessed why there were drawings under the banners.

Most likely, many demons were illiterate, and by looking at the pictures, they could tell what these buildings were for.

Presumably, there shouldn't be places like private schools here.

Even if there were, they should be very few.

Jiang Lan did not linger on the street but walked directly towards the foot of the mountain.

Whether he could successfully join the Ten Thousand Demons Hall depended on this trip.

The road was not long, probably less than ten li.

Reaching the end of the road, a huge mountain gate appeared before Jiang Lan.

The mountain gate was a single entity, with two pillars standing on either side and an arched shape in the middle.

In front of the mountain gate, two armored demons stood guard, one on the left and one on the right.

At this mountain gate, compared to the street just now, there were far fewer demons coming and going, and those entering and exiting were all in a hurry.

Jiang Lan stepped forward two paces, intending to enter the mountain gate.

Just as he was about to reach the gate, the two demons looked at Jiang Lan.

"Passage token."

Jiang Lan's expression subtly changed, then he quickly put on a smile.

He reached into his 懷 and took out a ten thousand demons token, and then a handful of blood pills.

These blood pills were what he had scavenged from that restaurant just now.

There were quite a few blood pills; not only did they replenish what Jiang Lan had given to the pig demon, but he also acquired about a hundred more.

"Brother, I accidentally got this token, and I heard that with this, I can enter the Ten Thousand Demons Hall. I want to ask, how do I use it?"

As he spoke, he handed a handful of blood pills, about thirty or forty of them, into the demon guard's hand.

Looking at the items Jiang Lan handed him, the guard was first stunned, then a smile appeared on his face.

Such a sensible person was truly rare.

Having received a benefit, he naturally wouldn't make things difficult for Jiang Lan. He looked at the token in his hand and said:

"The ten thousand demons token, right? Go into the first room, give the item to the person on duty inside, and he'll know what's going on."

After speaking, he turned sideways, making way for Jiang Lan.

Jiang Lan's eyes moved slightly.

He had originally expected some obstacles, but he didn't expect things to go surprisingly smoothly.

"Thank you."

Saying that, Jiang Lan directly stepped into the mountain gate.

The two guards at the entrance no longer blocked him; instead, they acted as if they hadn't seen Jiang Lan, letting him pass.

Entering the mountain gate, there was a narrow mountain path.

After walking a short distance, Jiang Lan saw a stone house situated beside the mountain path.

This was the first house he encountered.

Recalling the demon guard's instructions, Jiang Lan came to the door and knocked a few times.

"Dong dong dong—"

"Enter." An old voice came from inside the room.

Jiang Lan pushed the door open and entered.

Inside the room, the decor was very simple, with only a set of table and chairs, plus a stone bed.

On the chair sat an Old Wolf demon.

His originally all-black fur now had some mottled white, and the fur on top of his head was mostly white.

"A new face, and a little Wolf Cub at that."

The Old Wolf demon looked up at Jiang Lan.

Jiang Lan didn't waste words; he simply walked to the table and handed the token to the Old Wolf.

Along with the token, he also handed over a handful of blood pills.

He didn't know how this stuff was made; its texture was incredibly hard, feeling no different from stone, and even when squeezed together, it wouldn't deform.

Only the smell was truly unpleasant.

To Jiang Lan's nose, these blood pills had a pungent, fishy smell, not a bloody one, but somewhat similar to fish.

As for the grass pills, they had a strange odor, neither fragrant nor foul.

It was only because these two types of pills were the currency of this demon world.

Otherwise, Jiang Lan wouldn't want them even if they were given to him for free.

The Old Wolf froze for a moment, then a smile spread across his wolf face.

"Good lad, you're sensible."

Putting away the token and blood pills, he looked up.

"Little fellow, what's your name?"

"Lang Qing."

"Good name." The Old Wolf stood up, walked towards the door with his hands behind his back, "Come with me."

Those who came with a ten thousand demons token could be exempted from assessment, but for others, a thorough interrogation would be unavoidable.

It was because the Old Wolf saw Jiang Lan's sensibility and that they were both wolf demons that he didn't ask too many questions.

Otherwise, just going through this set of procedures would take at least half an hour.

One human and one demon exited, and the Old Wolf began to lead the way, guiding Jiang Lan up the mountain.

It didn't seem like much when viewed from afar, but once on the mountain, Jiang Lan realized that the mountain was much larger than it appeared.

Not only was its area vast, but its height was also considerable.

Jiang Lan estimated that the height from the foot to the summit was at least seven to eight thousand meters, if not ten thousand.

In his original world, the highest mountain wasn't much taller than this place.

Moreover, this mountain also had an extremely large area.

Seeing Jiang Lan's curious expression, the Old Wolf said:

"What, your first time at Yellow Demon Peak, and you're surprised?"

Jiang Lan subconsciously repeated, "Yellow Demon Peak?"

The Old Wolf paused, turned his head, and said, "Little fellow, you don't even know what this place is, do you?"

Jiang Lan was in a difficult position for a moment.

The reason he repeated it just now was that he felt that since this place was the Ten Thousand Demons Hall, its name should also be something like Ten Thousand Demon Peak.

But this Yellow Demon Peak, compared to the Ten Thousand Demon Peak he had imagined, was not exactly the same, but it could only be said to be completely different.

At the very least, this Ten Thousand Demons Hall was the power of the Kunpeng Demonic Lord, so even if it were called Kun... Kunpeng Mountain, Jiang Lan would find it acceptable.
