25: Chapter 25 Black Market Arena
The wait was long; Mother Gu's surgery lasted for nearly three hours.
Although Gu Yanchen sat motionless in his chair, Su Yue knew he was anxious inside.
Mother Gu was a good person; she hoped heaven would favor her and bless her to safely and successfully get through the surgery.
About half an hour later, the doors to the Operating Room finally opened, and Mother Gu was wheeled out.
The doctor, his face covered in sweat, smiled: "The surgery was very successful. Now, she just needs to rest and recover well."
Su Yue rolled her eyes. How could it not be successful? She had donated an entire building, after all.
The joy in Gu Yanchen's eyes was impossible to hide; looking at Su Yue, he didn't know what to say.
Su Yue said, "Mother Gu is the priority right now; we can save our words for later."
Gu Yanchen knew that any more words of thanks would just be empty talk. He looked deeply at Su Yue, then took her hand and followed the doctor.
In the ward, the doctor finished explaining the post-operative precautions for Mother Gu and left.
Gu Yanchen held her hand the entire time. Su Yue chuckled and said, "Why are you acting like a different person today?"
"Su Yue, thank you. Verbal expressions of gratitude are just bullshit. I will prove it to you!" Gu Yanchen lowered his eyelids, not letting her see the redness in his eyes.
Such a wonderful girl—he had to protect her with his life!
Su Yue ruffled his hair: "Fine, then use your actions to repay me!"
"By the way, Gu Yanchen, let's have Mother Gu discharged tomorrow and let her recover in my RV. I'll hire a doctor to look after her."
She knew the apocalypse would break out on August 3, 2028, but she couldn't guarantee whether zombies might appear now.
She guessed they might exist elsewhere, just not yet at a large-scale outbreak.
Gu Yanchen didn't hesitate at all and agreed immediately. His mother's life had been saved by Su Yue; whatever she said now went. He trusted that she wouldn't harm his mother.
"Aren't you curious why I'm doing this?"
"Baby, I trust you!"
Looking at his gaze of firm belief in her, Su Yue couldn't describe what she was feeling.
Underground Boxing Arena
Gu Yanchen arrived here again. The boss was ecstatic to see him; the last boxing match had earned him quite a bit of money, and seeing him this time was like seeing the God of Wealth.
"Young man, why didn't you give me a heads-up that you were coming today? I could have gone to pick you up."
Gu Yanchen said icily, "It was a last-minute decision."
The money for his mother's surgery had been spent by Su Yue, and he couldn't eat or sleep in peace. He wanted to come here to earn more money to pay her back.
He knew his money wasn't even a fraction of what she spent, but he still wanted to do his small part.
Always spending a woman's money was not his style.
"There's a tough one on the field today. If you win, you get this much." The boss held up three fingers.
Gu Yanchen spoke up: "Fifty-fifty split."
The boss disagreed: "No way, seventy-thirty."
"I'm risking my life to earn this money, and you want the big share while I take the small one? That's impossible, unless it's fifty-fifty."
"If you don't agree, I can find someone else to work with."
Gu Yanchen made a move to leave, and the boss gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, you win!"
He valued Gu Yanchen's ruthless, fearless nature; otherwise, a fifty-fifty split would be out of the question.
A businessman values the value he can bring.
Tonight, Gu Yanchen had truly met a worthy opponent. The man was a heavyweight; the ring shook with every two steps he took. His body was half muscle and half fat, and the flab under his armpits was long enough to wrap around three times.
Underground boxing wasn't just for show; it was a brutal clash of flesh against flesh, where one moment of carelessness could cost you your life.
"You're the Gu Yanchen who beat Hu last time?"
"Yeah."
In front of him, Gu Yanchen looked like The Dwarf, not even half his size.
The fat man looked down at him mockingly: "You're unlucky to have run into me today, but if you leave now, I can spare you."
The corner of Gu Yanchen's mouth curled up, showing no fear at all: "Too bad, I'm determined to win against you tonight!"
The fat man laughed even harder: "You really don't know when to die!"
At that moment, the referee shouted: "The match officially begins!"
Gu Yanchen didn't rush to fight him; he just waited for the right moment.
Seeing this, the fat man thought he was timid and laughed out loud in his arrogance.
Just then, Gu Yanchen struck quickly, using the elasticity of the ring ropes to kick him in the back of the knee, forcing him to his knees.
Then, he tightly choked the man's neck and, with lightning speed, punched him in the temple. A cracking sound was heard; the bone was likely fractured.
The fat man, who had been so imposing just moments ago, was now kneeling on the ground, motionless.
The crowd below was in an uproar.
"He didn't die, did he? Look, he's not moving!"
The referee rushed over to check his breathing. Finding he was still alive, though weak, he quickly ordered him to be carried off.
In the black market arena, life and death didn't matter; killing people was a common occurrence, and they were long used to it.
The referee raised his hand high: "Today's champion is Gu Yanchen!"
A wave of cheers erupted from the crowd, and applause rang out continuously.
After getting off the ring, Gu Yanchen went to the boss to get his money.
"Young man, you're the first person to split fifty-fifty with me." The boss handed him the money, his eyes full of pain.
