33: Chapter 33 Stranger Stops Car
Uncle Butler glanced at the surveillance monitor and said, "Miss, there are no zombies at the back door yet. You need to leave quickly."
Su Yue said to Gu Yanchen, who was driving in front, "You heard Uncle Butler, right? We need to get going immediately."
Gu Yanchen nodded, his gaze fixed firmly ahead. The people in the car were his beloved family and his true love, whom he would risk his life to protect. He could not let them fall into even the slightest danger.
Su Yue rested Mother Gu's head on her lap so she would be more comfortable.
With a screech, the car was forced to a halt. A filthy man blocked the front of the car, pleading, "Take me with you!"
Gu Yanchen had no intention of taking this man of unknown origin with them and restarted the engine.
Seeing this, the man refused to budge, instead shamelessly clinging to the hood of the car.
Gu Yanchen warned Su Yue in the back, "Baby, sit tight with my mother."
Su Yue glanced at the wrecked cars scattered around, still smoldering. A few zombies could be vaguely seen searching for something.
"A-Yan, make it quick. It looks like the zombies are coming."
Gu Yanchen, disregarding the safety of the man on the hood, floored the accelerator.
"Damn, you're serious!"
The man clung tightly to the hood, his legs hooked underneath, scared out of his wits.
The wind cut across his face like a knife, making it impossible for him to speak clearly.
Soon, the zombies smelled them and began to gather, swaying as they approached. The man screamed in terror.
"Stop the car! I don't want to die yet!"
"Please, stop the car! I really don't want to die. I have money! I'll give you all the money I have on me!"
Gu Yanchen only saw his mouth moving and couldn't hear a word of his babbling.
Just as the zombies were closing in, Gu Yanchen pulled off a sharp drift, knocking over the zombies following them before speeding away.
Su Yue exclaimed excitedly, "That was so thrilling!"
It was her first time riding in such a wild car. If Gu Yanchen entered a racing competition, he would absolutely crush everyone.
It was no wonder Gu Yanchen could be a commander in the Apocalypse; he truly was extraordinary.
The car reached the Hospital in just ten minutes. The man's hands and legs, stiff and unresponsive, let go of the hood, and he tumbled onto the ground with a thud, grimacing in pain.
"Are you even human? How could you bully me like this!" he said, bursting into aggrieved tears.
Gu Yanchen got out of the car, lifted his mother from the back seat, and ran toward the Hospital.
Su Yue followed behind, glancing back at the man with eyes full of mockery.
"You're a grown man, crying like that. Aren't you ashamed?"
"What kind of way is that to talk, little girl? You have no manners at all."
The man looked up at Su Yue in front of him, a flash of admiration crossing his eyes.
This little girl was truly beautiful!
"Do you really deserve manners? You car-clinging thief!"
Su Yue made no effort to hide her sarcasm, dropped that line, and walked away proudly.
The man stared at her back, a flash of darkness crossing his eyes so quickly it was as if it had never been there.
Gu Yanchen and the others were blocked at the Hospital entrance. The reason given was that with zombies running rampant, outsiders were strictly forbidden from entering for the safety of patients and doctors.
Gu Yanchen's face darkened, his eyes growing angrier. "Move aside. If anything happens to my mother, can you take responsibility?"
The security guard's eyes were cold. "Being unreasonable with me won't help. If you have the guts, go find the management! I've seen too many people like you."
If the guard hadn't been inside the security booth, there was no telling if Gu Yanchen might have punched him to death.
Su Yue tugged on his clothes, telling him not to take it out on the security guard.
"I'll call Dr. Xia and have him figure out a way to get us in."
Su Yue picked up her phone and called Dr. Xia. Fortunately, he had asked for her number back then; she hadn't expected it to come in handy.
The call was answered quickly. "Hello, who is this? I'm very busy. Make it quick."
"It's Su Yue. Can you figure out a way to get us into the Hospital? Aunt Gu's condition seems to have worsened!"
"That's impossible! The surgery was very successful!"
"You need to give us an explanation for this. Find a way to get us in right now."
"Hospital regulations forbid outsiders from entering. My hands are tied."
"Do you not want this building anymore?"
"Wait there, I'm coming down to get you."
Su Yue heard the gritting of teeth on the other end and sneered. He wanted to fool her? Not a chance.
She didn't believe for a second that someone who could sit in the position of director wouldn't have any connections.
She cast a reassuring look at Gu Yanchen.
The security guard had been staring at the three of them, but suddenly, upon seeing Dr. Xia, he greeted him warmly.
"Dr. Xia, in these chaotic times, why have you come out? It's not safe outside."
"I'm here to pick someone up," Dr. Xia said, pointing to the three people outside the gate. "Let them in."
The security guard was reluctant to open the gate. "The Hospital has regulations forbidding outsiders from entering."
Dr. Xia said sternly, "Let them in. I will take responsibility for anything that happens."
The security guard wanted to say something else, but one glare from Dr. Xia made him reluctantly open the gate.
Gu Yanchen carried his mother on his back and rushed inside.
Dr. Xia checked Mother Gu's eyes and, seeing the whites of her eyes, told them to rush her to the examination room immediately.
