39: Chapter 39: Finally, it's time to leave.

Seeing the two of them return, Su Yue finally let her heart settle and hurried up to meet them.

"A-Yan, you're okay, right? Did you get hurt?"

Lian Boyu leaned his face in, "Little beauty, why don't you ask if I'm hurt?"

Gu Yanchen cast a cold glance at him, his eyes filled with warning.

Lian Boyu pulled his head back, muttering under his breath, "How can someone so fierce still be wanted? It's simply unjust!"

Su Yue hugged Gu Yanchen's arm, her smile blooming like a flower, "Of course I was worried about A-Yan!"

Then she added, without much sincerity, "It's good that you're safe and sound too."

Seeing this, Lian Boyu deliberately sighed, "Sigh, truly valuing romance over friendship!"

Gu Yanchen couldn't be bothered to entertain his banter and turned to Su Yue, saying, "Let's leave first; it's not safe here."

"Go check on Mother Gu's condition. Can she be moved now?"

Lian Boyu nodded, carefully examined Mother Gu, and finding everything normal, nodded toward them.

Gu Yanchen carried Mother Gu on his back, and the three of them left the place together.

On the way, Su Yue asked curiously, "Did you encounter any dangerous situations just now? Tell me quickly!"

Gu Yanchen briefly recounted what had happened. After hearing it, Su Yue couldn't help but sigh, "It's fortunate that you are both fine, but you must be more careful in the future."

Su Yue secretly felt relieved, yet at the same time, she was filled with worry about the future.

She knew deeply that the enemies they faced were incredibly powerful, and the road ahead was long and filled with unknown challenges, but as long as Gu Yanchen was by her side, she had the confidence to overcome any difficulty.

The three walked in silence. Su Yue gripped Gu Yanchen's hand tightly, as if trying to draw strength from this closely connected warmth.

Lian Boyu watched them, and couldn't help but sigh inwardly at how deep the bond between the two was, a flash of gloom that no one else noticed quickly passing through his eyes.

After walking for a while, Gu Yanchen suddenly stopped and looked at Su Yue with a firm gaze, "No matter what, I will protect you and won't let you suffer any harm."

Hearing this, Su Yue's eyes shimmered with tears, and she nodded gently, "I believe in you, A-Yan."

Lian Boyu also put aside his usual joking attitude and said seriously, "I will also do my best to help you two."

"Seriously, what is your true purpose for insisting on coming to my side?" After asking, Su Yue stared at his face, wanting to see if she could discern something.

"What purpose could I have? I just want to earn more money." Lian Boyu curled his lip and strode ahead.

Su Yue exchanged a look with Gu Yanchen; both of them clearly didn't believe his explanation.

The Hospital had invited him over ten times and would offer him a salary of ten thousand; no ghost would believe that if it were told.

Under the afterglow of the setting sun, the three figures were closely connected, as if forming a warm and resolute picture.

Dodging zombies along the way, they arrived at the parking spot, only to find that the front of their car had been smashed to pieces.

Lian Boyu was so angry he kicked the pillar next to him and cursed, "Who is it? So wicked, do they have no manners at all?"

"A-Yan, there's no car now; how are we going to get back?" Su Yue had a headache. She had picked the sturdiest car in the garage, never expecting it to be smashed into this ghost of a state.

It seems she had been duped by the dealer when she bought the car.

Gu Yanchen handed Mother Gu over to Lian Boyu to look after and went to check the condition of the car himself.

Gu Yanchen crouched down and, with the help of the dim light, carefully examined the shattered front of the car.

Metal fragments were scattered all over the ground, like armor abandoned on a battlefield, silently recounting the ferocity of the collision.

His brows were tightly furrowed, and his fingers gently slid across the broken edges; the icy touch made his heart sink. The surroundings were deathly silent, with only the occasional low roar of zombies in the distance breaking the oppression.

He stood up and scanned his surroundings, trying to find any tools or vehicles that could be repaired or used as a substitute.

Under the light, his figure was stretched long, appearing exceptionally lonely yet resolute.

Suddenly, his gaze fell upon an SUV not far away that appeared intact, and a glimmer of hope ignited in his heart.

He walked over quickly, silently praying, "I hope this car can take us away from here."

The car door was gently pulled open, making a crisp sound that seemed exceptionally loud in the silent Basement.

Gu Yanchen took a deep breath, stepped into the car, and began to check its condition.

He turned on the headlights, and a beam of bright light instantly cut through the surrounding darkness, illuminating the winding road ahead and shining into his firm, unyielding eyes.

The seats still retained the lingering warmth left by the previous owner when they had left in a hurry. Gu Yanchen sat down gently and adjusted the rearview mirror, as if performing a solemn ritual.

As the roar of the engine gradually started, deep and powerful, it vibrated through the surrounding air and shook his heart.

At this moment, he felt as if he could hear the gears of fate re-engaging, pushing them to set off toward an unknown yet hopeful tomorrow.

Gu Yanchen got out of the car and said to them, "We'll leave in this car."

Su Yue nodded. Although this car didn't look as impressive as her own, it was more than enough to take them back to the Villa.
