33: Chapter 33 Twins

Zheng Jing folded up the empty bread wrapper, tucked it into the backpack behind him, and hadn't even taken a few steps forward when a sudden, intense burst of light erupted from the dormant system in his mind.

The light was incredibly distinct, locked straight onto the soil underground about 80 centimeters to his right, its intensity far surpassing the usual clues from the past.

Zheng Jing felt a surge of joy, immediately stopped, and instinctively glanced around.

The few people traveling with him had already gone their separate ways...

Zheng Jing relaxed, looked down in the direction indicated by the system, and saw that the ground looked completely unremarkable, no different from the surrounding soil; anyone passing by wouldn't notice anything unusual.

But the information provided by the system had never been wrong, so Zheng Jing immediately pulled out the small shovel he carried with him, bent down, and began to dig.

This patch of soil was mixed with quite a few pebbles and hard clumps; the ground was dense and tough, making it exceptionally difficult to dig, and each shovel downward required a significant amount of effort.

But at the thought of the genuine treasure hidden underneath, Zheng Jing was instantly filled with energy and didn't feel tired at all. His movements became increasingly agile as he patiently cleared away all the loose soil.

As he dug deeper, a warm, bright golden luster slowly emerged—distinct edges and a pure texture.

"It's actually gold."

The moment he saw the real thing, Zheng Jing was overjoyed and worked even harder to clear the surrounding soil, carefully digging it out completely.

Unlike the gold particle from yesterday, today's find could barely be considered a small gold nugget; it was easily five or six times heavier!

It felt substantial in his hand, weighing about seven or eight grams; even after refining, it would be at least over five grams!

In this abandoned mine pit, gold of this quality and size was definitely a big find!

Zheng Jing hurriedly wiped the soil off the surface of the gold nugget with the hem of his shirt, examined it carefully, and was filled with joy.

"Good stuff, really good stuff. I love you to death."

He then carefully tucked the large piece of gold into the inner pocket of his clothes.

He had thought this morning surprise ended there, but to his surprise, just as he straightened up, the system prompt in his mind hadn't dissipated; it remained steadily in place, showing no signs of fading.

Zheng Jing was slightly taken aback, then immediately realized: could there be more stuff underneath?

He immediately bent down again and continued to dig lightly right next to where the gold nugget had been. Sure enough, after digging just a few times, another small, exquisite gold particle appeared in the soil.

This piece was much smaller, weighing just over a gram. Although it was far less substantial than the previous one, finding it for free was still a genuine, unexpected joy.

"Awesome, twins!"

Zheng Jing tucked this small gold particle away as well, unable to suppress the smile on his face.

From entering the mountain this morning until now, it hadn't even been half an hour. To have consecutively reaped two pieces of natural gold, one big and one small—with such a bountiful harvest at the start, Zheng Jing couldn't even imagine what his total haul would be today!

Standing tall and full of spirit, Zheng Jing looked toward the deep forest ahead, feeling incredibly confident.

Today was destined to be a smooth, prosperous day with a massive harvest!

Zheng Jing suppressed the joy in his heart and paced back and forth around the spot, searching carefully.

Because as the saying goes, gold and silver have nests; where gold appears, there might be more surprises hidden nearby.

But after walking several circles, the system in his mind remained completely silent, and he finally confirmed that there were no more treasures in this area.

So, Zheng Jing didn't linger any longer and walked contentedly into the depths of the forest, keeping an eye on his surroundings the entire way.

He secretly estimated that these two pieces of gold, one big and one small, should be able to sell for six or seven thousand!

Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, Guo Kui was squatting on the ground, his face full of joy.

His luck had been terrible yesterday; he worked himself to the bone all day, and let alone gold or silver, even his metal detector didn't even make a damn sound—he had come up completely empty-handed.

Although he acted nonchalant in front of everyone, he was actually holding back a bellyful of frustration. He had been stewing all night, determined to turn his luck around today.

Perhaps his luck had really turned. Early in the morning, just as he had dug open a patch of soft slope following the beeps of his metal detector, he felt something heavy. Reaching in to pull it out and wiping the soil off its surface, it turned out to be a silver nugget in perfect condition.

The silver nugget was clean and felt heavy in his hand, weighing a good ten grams or so—at the very least, it was worth 230 yuan!

Although it wasn't the gold he had been pining for, he had finally shaken off his streak of bad luck and had a tangible harvest.

Guo Kui immediately grinned from ear to ear, unable to stop smiling.

Carefully tossing the silver nugget into a small jar and tucking it close to his body, he felt full of energy now, humming a little tune as he continued to dig around, hoping for more good luck.
