61: Chapter Sixty-One: He Came Back to Life
Father Guo and Mother Guo collapsed on the spot, rushing toward the gurney like mad.
Zheng Jing and Guo Jianjun didn't have time to think; they immediately rushed forward, each grabbing one of them and holding them firmly.
Their hearts were pounding, and their bodies were ice-cold; they felt as if the sky were collapsing. Was Guo Kui really gone just like that?
Post-operative infection?
Or was there an injury to the brain or some other vital part that hadn't been detected earlier?
For a moment, the hallway outside the operating room was in chaos, leaving Director Zhang, who had just finished the surgery and removed his mask, completely bewildered.
In all his years of practicing medicine, he, Director Zhang, had seen plenty of families crying and making a scene after surgery.
But that only happened when the patient was beyond saving, causing the family to be so emotional.
Today's surgery had gone as smoothly as possible without a single hitch, and the patient was doing great. Why were this family crying like this?
"I don't understand..."
Director Zhang looked puzzled and quickly stepped forward to stop them: "Everyone, calm down. The surgery was so successful, why are you crying?"
Hearing Director Zhang's words, Father Guo and Mother Guo immediately stopped crying. With tear-stained faces, they stared at him blankly, unable to process what was happening for a long time.
After a long while, Father Guo, trembling all over, pointed shakily at the gurney where Guo Kui was covered tightly by a quilt, his head and face completely wrapped up.
His voice was hoarse and pained: "My son's face is covered with a white sheet, and he's lying there stiff and motionless. And you still say the surgery was successful?"
Director Zhang turned to look at the gurney, instantly understood, and couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
He walked over quickly and gently pulled the quilt off Guo Kui's face: "So that's the misunderstanding!
Rest assured, the surgery was very successful. The patient is just still under the effects of the anesthesia and is asleep.
I guess he felt the operating room lights were too bright and dazzling, and subconsciously pulled the quilt over his face while he was asleep."
As soon as he said this, everyone was stunned where they stood.
Guo Jianjun reacted the fastest and quickly reached out to check for breath under Guo Kui's nose.
Then his voice suddenly rose, filled with surprise and joy: "Uncle! He's breathing! He's really breathing! Kuizi is alive and well!"
Zheng Jing also reached out to touch Guo Kui's warm cheek, then let out a long sigh of relief.
He smiled at Father Guo and Mother Guo: "Uncle Guo, Auntie Guo, it's a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding! Kuizi is doing just fine!"
Hearing them both confirm it, Father Guo and Mother Guo, who had collapsed to the ground, immediately broke into tears and laughter, all their fright dissipating.
Not long after, a nurse pushed the hospital bed and took Guo Kui to the inpatient ward, getting him settled in.
Before leaving, Director Zhang specifically instructed: "The patient's surgery was very successful. Just watch him and make sure he doesn't move around too much; he just needs to rest and recover.
However, he needs to be hospitalized for ten days. After that, we'll remove the stitches, and if there are no complications, he can be discharged."
"Alright, thank you, Director Zhang."
"Thank you, thank you, doctor!"
Looking at Guo Kui sleeping soundly on the bed, everyone finally felt at ease.
After Director Zhang left, Father Guo looked at Zheng Jing and Guo Jianjun, feeling incredibly grateful.
This time when Guo Kui had his accident, it was all thanks to these two—rushing him to the hospital, waiting in line, pulling strings, and handling all the paperwork.
At this moment, the two of them were exhausted, their eyes bloodshot from staying up for a whole day and night.
Father Guo felt truly bad about it and immediately waved at Guo Jianjun: "Junzi, you take Zheng Jing to a nearby hotel to get a room and get some good sleep to recharge.
Your aunt and I will keep watch here, so you don't need to worry. Go get some rest!"
The two looked down at themselves—their hair was a mess, and their clothes were covered in dust and sweat; they looked incredibly disheveled.
Since they were indeed exhausted, they didn't refuse and told Father Guo and Mother Guo to call them anytime if something came up.
They turned and left the hospital, planning to find a clean hotel nearby to get a standard room.
On the way, Zheng Jing suddenly thought of something, and his face flushed red; he felt incredibly embarrassed.
He had actually been talking to Lin Ran and the others for so long while looking this smelly?
And neither Lin Ran, her best friend Li Keke, nor even the nanny, Sister Wang, had shown any sign of discomfort the whole time!
However, Guo Jianjun didn't give Zheng Jing a chance to overthink it; he pointed to a hotel by the side of the road.
"Jingzi, this one looks pretty clean. How about it?"
Zheng Jing quickly pulled himself together and replied casually: "Fine, let's go with this one."
The two pushed the door open and went to the front desk to check in. Guo Jianjun stepped forward and paid for the room immediately.
With the room card in hand, they entered the room and took turns having hot showers, washing away the sweat and fatigue.
Then they changed into clean clothes they had just fetched from the car. They didn't even bother with lunch; they just collapsed onto the big bed and fell asleep the moment their heads hit the pillows.
The hotel's soft bed was ten thousand times more comfortable than the hospital's hard chairs, and the two slept like the dead.
They slept until they woke up naturally, feeling fully refreshed and light.
They took a while to get up, then went out to find a small shop for a simple dinner.
During the meal, they specifically made a call to ask about the situation at the hospital and also asked if Father Guo and Mother Guo had eaten.
They learned over the phone that they had already eaten dinner and that Guo Kui had also woken up and was in a relatively stable condition.
Father Guo repeatedly told them to rest easy at the hotel and not to worry about the hospital.
Back at the hotel, Guo Jianjun looked at Zheng Jing: "Kuizi has to stay in the hospital for ten days. I plan to come back to pick him up after he's discharged.
Since we're just sitting around, why don't we go back into the mountains for Gold Panning tomorrow? You in?"
