52: Chapter 52 Transferring to another hospital if conditions permit

After a long and arduous journey, the iveco finally arrived at the Hezheng County People's Hospital at 1:30 AM.

Everyone hurriedly knocked on the emergency room doors and called for the on-duty medical staff.

They worked together to support the shivering and pain-wracked Guo Kui, immediately arranging for various examinations.

After a preliminary assessment of the injuries, the doctor immediately issued examination orders, and they proceeded to get a brain CT scan and an ankle MRI.

Unlike the forced cheerfulness in the car just moments ago, the group now stood guard outside the emergency room.

They paced back and forth, anxious and uneasy while waiting for the diagnosis results.

Guo Jianjun smoked cigarette after cigarette, his palms slick with cold sweat.

Zheng Jing's brow was tightly furrowed as he held his phone and asked the intelligent assistant, "What kind of fractures lead to permanent disability?"

The Zhao Brothers were equally restless, and not a single one of them could calm down.

An hour later, all the medical reports regarding Guo Kui's injuries were ready.

After carefully checking the imaging scans and the diagnosis sheet, the doctor slowly explained the situation to everyone.

"The patient has no organic brain damage or concussion. The rest of his injuries are minor surface wounds, which have already been disinfected. There is nothing serious, so there is no need to worry excessively."

"The main injury is concentrated in the ankle, which is a closed fracture. The bone has become displaced, so the injury is not minor."

Guo Jianjun's heart tightened suddenly, and he rushed forward, his voice trembling with anxiety.

He said urgently, "Doctor, please arrange for surgery immediately. Prioritize safe treatment above all else. We absolutely cannot delay treatment; my younger brother is still very young and cannot be left disabled."

The doctor looked troubled as he honestly explained the situation:

"It is not that we are unwilling to perform the surgery as soon as possible, but the county hospital has limited medical resources."

"This type of fracture reduction surgery requires specialized locking plates. We do not have the matching supplies in the hospital, and our supporting surgical instruments do not meet the standard."

"Furthermore, the patient's affected area needs to reduce swelling and inflammation first, and we must complete a comprehensive physical assessment. It will take at least a week before we can perform the surgery."

Hearing that they had to wait a full week for surgery, Zheng Jing's expression sank instantly. The impatience he had suppressed in his heart surged up, and he couldn't help but mutter a curse under his breath.

"Damn it, we have to wait a week? If we drag it out this long and it worsens the condition—muscle atrophy, the bone healing crooked, and he ends up disabled for life—who can take responsibility for that?!"

It wasn't in his nature to be like this, but after watching Guo Kui in agony the entire trip, he had been bottling up his anger. Hearing the doctor's news, his emotions flared up instantly, and his tone was full of fire.

Guo Jianjun's face turned deathly pale, his body went slightly limp, and he muttered to himself, "It's over... Waiting a week—if he really ends up crippled, what will we do? My uncle only has this one son..."

Seeing this, Zhao the Second quickly reached out and tugged on Zheng Jing's arm, whispering to calm him down, fearing he might get into an argument with the doctor.

"Calm down, calm down. Don't be impulsive. Getting angry at the doctor won't help!"

"The doctor is following the rules. The conditions in our small county hospital are just like this; the hardware isn't up to par, and there's nothing the doctor can do. Pre-operative assessment is mandatory. Complaining won't help, so let's not make things difficult for them."

Hearing Zhao the Second's words of comfort, Zheng Jing's mood gradually calmed down.

Realizing that he had been shouting in his desperation moments ago, he quickly apologized to the doctor, "I am truly sorry. I was just too anxious, and my voice was a bit too loud. Please forgive me."

Hearing Zheng Jing's apology, the doctor gently waved his hand with an expression of someone who was used to such situations.

"It's fine, it's fine. As a doctor, I completely understand how you feel. After all, when a family member is injured, it is only natural to be emotional. To be honest, waiting a week for surgery does carry significant risks, and I am also worried about delaying the patient's treatment."

"How about this: if you have the means and the connections, it is best not to waste time here in the county; transfer hospitals directly."

"Go to the Provincial Second People's Hospital. That hospital's orthopedics department is the best in the province! Their expert team and medical equipment are the best."
