59: Chapter Fifty-Nine: Big Meat Buns
Looking at the stunned expression on Zheng Jing's face, Lin Ran, who had been feeling weak all over, couldn't help but lightly curl the corners of her lips, hiding a hint of triumph from a successful prank.
Beside her, Li Keke couldn't hold it in any longer; she covered her mouth and burst out laughing.
Zheng Jing asked suspiciously, "Beauty, what are you laughing at?"
"Hahahaha..."
It would have been better if Zheng Jing hadn't asked; the moment he did, Li Keke laughed until she was gasping for air.
Even Sister Wang, who usually didn't smile much, couldn't help but break her composure and start laughing as well.
Considering this might be a friend of her employer, Sister Wang quickly turned her head to hide her smile, pretending she hadn't heard anything.
After a long while, Li Keke finally managed to stop laughing, and said while catching her breath, "I say, you look quite sharp, so why are you so dense? Haven't you heard the old saying: 'A dog bites Lü Dongbin, not knowing a good heart'?"
Hearing her explanation, Zheng Jing finally realized what she meant.
Great, she was beating around the bush to call him a dog!
The old master was right, indeed; women and small-minded people are the hardest to deal with!
Obviously, this beauty who drove the big G still remembered that he had misunderstood her earlier and was waiting to get back at him here.
However, Zheng Jing wasn't angry. Putting himself in her shoes, she and Guo Kui were strangers to him, yet she had kindly helped him only to be misunderstood. Who wouldn't be a little annoyed?
So what if she cursed him?
Zheng Jing rubbed his head and grinned, "Heh, I stayed up all night yesterday and didn't close my eyes. My brain was foggy, and I just didn't think it through."
Zheng Jing's expression and tone combined to look quite comical, which made Lin Ran couldn't help but laugh softly.
This gave her previously weak and pale face a sudden touch of vitality.
"Alright, I won't tease you anymore. My name is Lin Ran, and this is my best friend, Li Keke."
Then, she gestured toward the middle-aged woman beside her and added, "This is Sister Wang; she's watched me grow up since I was little."
Zheng Jing greeted them all very politely.
Afterward, Lin Ran continued, "I have received your kind intentions, but there is no need to leave your number. It really was just a small favor."
Just as Zheng Jing was about to say no, Li Keke, who was beside them, interrupted like a machine gun, "Let me tell you, my friend's number is 1888xxxx888. I'll only say it once. Whether you can seize the opportunity is all up to your ability!"
Upon hearing this, Zheng Jing looked at Li Keke with an expression like he was looking at a fool. With a number like that, did he even need to memorize it?
However, to go along with her good intentions, Zheng Jing immediately took out his phone, raised it with a smile, and said, "My memory might not be reliable, but my typing speed is fast enough."
Having said that, his fingers quickly tapped open the dialing interface, entered the entire string of numbers without a single mistake, and pressed call right there and then.
"Beautiful Lin Ran, my name is Zheng Jing. Please save my number. If you ever have the chance to come to our Hezheng, I'll treat you to something you've never eaten before!"
"Zheng Jing?"
Li Keke leaned in and teased, "I can't tell, looking at how unserious you are, your name is quite the opposite, isn't it?"
Zheng Jing: ...speechless. What do you want me to say?
He gave a fake smile to Li Keke with an expressionless face, exchanged a few more polite pleasantries, and then his gaze fell on Lin Ran's pale and tired face. Seeing that she was lacking energy, he decided not to disturb her further and quietly took his leave.
Coming out of the IV infusion area, Zheng Jing realized his stomach was growling with hunger. He figured Guo Jianjun must be in a similar state.
So, he decided to go buy something for breakfast. Since Guo Kui had already entered the operating room, there was no need to rush over there.
Because the Second People's Hospital was a Grade-A tertiary hospital and located in the heart of Rongcheng City, the number of patients and family members coming and going every day was countless. Naturally, the area outside the hospital gate was surrounded by all kinds of breakfast stalls.
Just as he stepped out of the hospital gate and turned left, he saw all kinds of breakfast items—steamed buns, porridge, soy milk, and deep-fried dough sticks—lined up along the road, full of life and hustle.
Zheng Jing couldn't help but sigh inwardly. The municipal management in Rong City was truly good; they didn't blindly and crudely drive away street vendors like some other cities.
It both left a way for small business owners to make a living and greatly facilitated the patients and their families seeking medical treatment, which could be considered the best of both worlds.
He walked quickly to a steamed bun stall, pointed at the meat buns, and asked, "Boss, how much for one?"
"Two yuan!"
"Oh?"
Zheng Jing thought he had misheard. He had been prepared to be overcharged a little, but he really hadn't expected that at the entrance of a Grade-A hospital in the provincial capital's city center, breakfast would be sold so cheaply.
Such big buns were actually the same price as those at a breakfast stall on the street in Hezheng County!
"Give me ten meat buns and two cups of hot soy milk."
The boss efficiently packed them up. Zheng Jing scanned the code to pay, picked up the paper bag, and walked quickly toward the operating room corridor.
