40: Chapter 40 I dare not
When Zheng Jing had free time, he often scrolled through TikTok and saw various luxury cars, so he recognized at a glance that this wasn't an ordinary Mercedes G-Class, but a top-trim G63!
It was a top-tier luxury hard-core off-roader worth millions!
A luxury car of this caliber parked here, amidst the quiet mountains with the sound of trickling water and waterfalls hitting stones, felt completely out of place and exceptionally glaring.
However, only a luxury car with such super powerful off-road performance could make it into these rugged and remote deep mountains; if it were a regular family car, it would probably have broken down halfway and never made it in.
Zheng Jing knew this G-Class was worth a fortune and couldn't help but ponder to himself.
This place was the site of an abandoned gold mine from years ago. Its location was hidden, and besides Gold Panning enthusiasts like them, few people ever came here, and those driving million-dollar luxury cars were certainly not ordinary people.
Could it be an old shareholder or the former owner of the mine? Did they secretly hide gold and silver treasures in the mountains years ago and are now taking time to come and retrieve them?
Zheng Jing was full of curiosity. He tiptoed closer to the car and circled it, seeing that it was empty inside with no one in sight. He looked around, full of suspicion, but still couldn't find the owner of the G-Class.
Subconsciously looking up, he suddenly discovered a huge stone platform spanning the top of the ten-meter-high waterfall. On the stone surface stood a young woman with an exceptionally beautiful figure, her long hair fluttering as she gazed into the distance!
Apart from himself, the only other person in the entire mountain forest was that solitary figure on the stone platform. Without needing to think, he could be certain that this impressive G63 must be the woman's vehicle.
Yet, looking at her gentle and calm appearance, she really didn't seem like the person from the old mine he had guessed, who would come to look for hidden gold.
Since it wasn't what he had guessed, why would this woman run out here all by herself? "Could it be... wait, holy crap..." A thought suddenly popped into Zheng Jing's mind.
Meanwhile, Lin Ran, standing on the high stone platform, had a heart filled with inseparable longing and sorrow. Her father, who had cherished and loved her, had been gone for exactly two years.
Over these two years, the longing for her father had haunted her heart day and night, never diminishing in the slightest. Waking up this morning, she didn't know why, but her mood felt exceptionally low and oppressive.
For no reason, she thought about coming to take a walk and have a look at the place where her father had once worked and settled down. She hadn't told anyone, drove alone from the provincial capital, followed the direction in her memory all the way, and unknowingly arrived at this old mining area.
The giant rock beneath her feet offered an excellent view, allowing her to see the entire mountain mining area at a glance; it was the very place her father often mentioned to her. She stood there quietly, looking at the strange yet familiar mountains and forests before her—everything had changed, and the people were gone!
Scenes of her father chatting and laughing with her in the past, recounting his work experiences, all surfaced in her mind one by one. The more Lin Ran thought about it, the more sour and uncomfortable she felt, her heart filled with melancholy that was hard to calm.
She was completely immersed in the emotions of remembering her father, totally unaware of the movements in the outside world, having already isolated herself in this quiet realm.
Just amidst this heartfelt grief, a hoarse, abrupt shout suddenly came from below the mountain, instantly breaking all the tranquility of the mountains and forcibly interrupting all her thoughts.
"Miss, don't jump! Please, you absolutely must not jump! You need to think about the family who loves you..."
Lin Ran was startled by the sudden voice, her delicate body trembling, and she froze on the spot. Subconsciously looking down, she saw a man standing below, wearing tattered clothes and covered in dust, looking like a wild man. He was looking up at her, shouting and jumping. This bizarre behavior immediately left Lin Ran stunned, her heart filled with confusion.
Before she could recover and ask what was going on, Zheng Jing down the mountain opened his throat again, shouting loudly in an urgent and exaggerated tone, trying to persuade her not to do anything rash or foolish.
These groundless words left Lin Ran completely confused, her heart filled with bewilderment and puzzlement. She had only come alone to commemorate her late father and quietly reminisce about the past; where would she have any thoughts of suicide?
The sudden disturbance completely disrupted her state of mind. In her flustered state, combined with the fact that the stone platform was covered in waterfall mist year-round and the surface was damp and slippery, her foot suddenly slipped, and she instantly lost her balance.
"Ah..." A delicate cry escaped her lips. She could no longer steady herself, and she rolled straight off the edge of the cliff, falling heavily into the deep, cold water pool below.
The water in the deep mountain pool was deep and freezing, and Lin Ran didn't know how to swim. Falling into the water so unexpectedly, she choked on several mouthfuls of cold water and instantly panicked, only able to flail and struggle helplessly in the water. The longing and sorrow that had filled her heart were instantly replaced by panic.
"Hey, are you stupid or what, holy crap..." Zheng Jing on the bank witnessed this scene and immediately cursed in anger.
"Tell me, aren't these rich people just asking for trouble? So beautiful and so rich, what is there to be upset about that you have to run to this deep mountain to jump into a pool? Don't you see that I'm working myself to death here and have never thought about ending my life? Sigh, really immature."
Despite the cursing, Zheng Jing didn't dare to delay for even a second. He rushed to the edge of the pool, leaped into the water, and swam with all his might towards the drowning Lin Ran.
