50: Chapter 50 Godfather Above

After hearing Guo Jianjun's account, The Zhao Brothers exchanged glances, momentarily at a loss for words.

Guo Kui had crossed the boundary first; according to the rules agreed upon by their two Gold Panning teams, they were indeed in the wrong.

Although Boss Zhou and his group hadn't directly attacked Guo Kui, if they hadn't deliberately made things difficult and applied pressure, Guo Kui wouldn't have been delayed and forced to return in the dark, ultimately resulting in his current state.

But to just swallow this bitter pill was incredibly frustrating for everyone.

Although the injury wasn't on them personally, Guo Kui was part of the team, and they shared in each other's honor and disgrace; everyone felt a certain level of stifled indignation.

Boss Zhao frowned and said in a muffled voice, "Sigh, what a mess. Kuizi has suffered terribly."

Meanwhile, Guo Kui, lying in the vehicle, couldn't stop groaning in pain.

The light inside the vehicle wasn't very bright, so Zheng Jing shone a flashlight on him and discovered that Guo Kui's ankle was swelling more and more; even a light touch made him shiver all over, his face deathly pale.

"It hurts like hell... Damn, I sprained my ankle... How can it hurt this much?"

Guo Kui gritted his teeth, cold sweat breaking out all over his body, unable to speak a complete sentence.

Zheng Jing didn't answer him but instead looked at Guo Jianjun.

Seeing Guo Kui in this state, they stopped thinking about revenge for the time being, all wearing grave expressions.

Because everyone understood that this definitely wasn't just a sprain; it was most likely a fracture!

Watching his cousin in such agony, Guo Jianjun felt both heartache and distress. After a long silence, he turned to Zheng Jing and The Zhao Brothers and said hoarsely:

"Kuizi's foot is swollen terrifyingly; he breaks into a sweat just from moving it slightly. It's nine times out of ten a fracture.

He's still young and hasn't married or started a family yet. If we miss the best window for treatment and he ends up disabled or with a limp, his whole life will be ruined.

I want to set off for Hezheng immediately to get him to a hospital. We have to end our Gold Panning trip early."

At this point, he cupped his hands in guilt, looking apologetic: "I'm sorry, brothers. We haven't gained anything on this trip, and now we have to give up halfway. I won't take everyone's share of the vehicle expenses this time."

Before he could finish, Zheng Jing waved his hand to interrupt, "Brother Jun, you're being too polite. Let's get moving!"

"Right!"

Zhao the Second also spoke up: "Jianjun, you're being too distant! Human life is at stake; Kuizi's injury is more important than Gold Panning."

"Exactly. Money can be earned anytime. Kuizi's injury cannot be delayed. Returning to treat his injury is the priority. We'll listen to you; we'll do whatever you say."

Boss Zhao chimed in, his tone showing not a hint of reluctance.

Although everyone felt a bit regretful—after all, they had traveled over mountains and rivers to reach the deep mountains, and to return empty-handed without having panned much gold or silver was a pity—not a single person complained. They all knew what was important and urgent.

Looking at these brothers before him, Guo Jianjun felt deeply moved, his eyes welling up slightly.

"Thank you, brothers. I'll keep this in my heart!"

"Old Guo, you talk too much nonsense."

Boss Zhao said with dissatisfaction, "Pack up the gear, hurry up."

Guo Jianjun nodded: "Alright, everyone has been busy all day and hasn't eaten dinner yet. Take the food with you to eat on the road."

"Alright, let's pack quickly, don't waste time!"

Everyone worked efficiently, and in no time, they had packed up their belongings. Guo Jianjun started the vehicle.

Guo Kui lay in the middle row, which was the spot where Zheng Jing had been sleeping.

The burly Boss Zhao and Zheng Jing sat on his left and right, staying close to Guo Kui, gently supporting his body the entire way for fear that the vehicle's bumps would aggravate his injured ankle.

Zhao the Second consciously sat in the passenger seat to accompany Guo Jianjun and watch the road conditions.

"Keep him steady. I'll try to drive smoothly to minimize the bumping."

Guo Jianjun stepped on the gas and sped off in the direction of Hezheng County.

Along the way, Guo Kui couldn't close his eyes due to the pain, occasionally letting out painful moans. He was covered in cold sweat, and his lips were bitten white.

Seeing him in such agony, half-dead from the pain, Zheng Jing didn't know how to comfort him. He could only rasp, half-jokingly trying to coax him: "Alright, you won't die from a fracture.

Stop the damn whimpering, hold it in for me!

Once you recover, I'll arrange a 699 sauna session in Xiongcheng for you to relax."

Guo Kui, who was on the verge of tears from the bone-piercing pain, saw his previously dull eyes light up instantly upon hearing this. He suddenly perked up, enduring the excruciating pain, and said word by word with utmost seriousness: "Is... that... for... real?"

Seeing him still thinking about that, Zheng Jing nodded helplessly: "Absolutely true, I wouldn't lie to you."

Having received Zheng Jing's guarantee, Guo Kui instantly grinned and began to chuckle foolishly.

He forced back all his groans and whimpers.

"Good, Godfather above, please accept this bow from your son!"

After saying this, he extended two fingers to make a bowing gesture.

Boss Zhao shook his head helplessly and said to Guo Jianjun, who was driving: "Old Guo, was your ancestral grave buried on the head of the Black Tortoise?"

Guo Jianjun was stunned: "What do you mean by that?"
