55: Chapter 55 Old Grudges Meet Again

Time rewinds to eight o'clock this morning, inside Villa No. 5, located in a high-end villa district in the heart of Rongcheng City where every inch of land is worth gold.

Su Wanqin looked at the nutritious breakfast she had prepared herself on the dining table, feeling quite satisfied.

However, she secretly wondered why her daughter, who was always disciplined with her schedule, was still lazing in bed so late today.

She walked up to the second floor and gently pushed open Lin Ran's bedroom door, her tone full of doting affection: "Ranran, didn't you say you were going to the company to host the new product launch today? It's already eight o'clock. If you don't get up, you're going to be late."

But as soon as she stepped into the room, Su Wanqin was instantly shocked.

She saw the usually decisive and efficient Lin Ran lying listlessly in the covers, her face pale, her lips flushed with fever, and her whole body weak, as if even opening her eyes was an effort.

Su Wanqin's heart tightened. She hurried to the bedside and reached out to touch her forehead. When her fingertips met the scorching heat, her expression changed instantly: "Oh no, baby, you have a fever! How did you get such a high fever?"

She quickly retrieved the high-end custom infrared thermometer from the house and gently aimed it at Lin Ran's forehead. The number on the screen jumped out instantly—39.3 ℃!

"Oh my, how did it get to this temperature?"

Su Wanqin anxiously tried to help her up: "You can't tough out a high fever. I'll call and cancel the company launch later. Our home is very close to the Rongcheng City Second Hospital; I'll take you there now for an IV drip to bring your temperature down."

Lin Ran's head felt dizzy and swollen, her bones aching throughout. Her voice was hoarse and weak, but she still forced herself to remain rational: "Mom, this launch has been in preparation for a long time; I can't be absent. But I really can't manage to go. I'll have to trouble you to come out of retirement once more, go in my place, and steady the situation. Make sure nothing goes wrong."

"How can I feel at ease leaving when you've burned up like this?" Su Wanqin looked completely disapproving.

"It's fine, Mom. I'll contact Li Keke and have her come over to accompany me to the hospital. Her house is only a few minutes away," Lin Ran said softly.

Watching her daughter's miserable appearance, Su Wanqin nodded helplessly and immediately dialed Li Keke's number.

"Hello, Keke? It's Auntie Su. Yes, Auntie has a favor to ask of you... Alright, thank you for your trouble. I'll make you something delicious later. Drive safely on your way."

Not long after Su Wanqin hung up the phone, Li Keke rushed over.

Su Wanqin nodded at her: "Keke, I'm sending Sister Wang to accompany you both to the hospital. Today's company launch is indeed important. Since Lin Ran is sick, I have to go and oversee it."

Li Keke nodded obediently: "Alright, Auntie Su. You go ahead and get busy. I'll take care of Lin Ran here, don't you worry."

With that, she and the Lin family's housekeeper, Sister Wang, supported the weak Lin Ran on both sides and arrived at the emergency hall of the Rongcheng City Second Hospital together, ready to queue up for registration and an IV drip.

Upon arriving at the Second People's Hospital, Sister Wang ran back and forth to handle the necessary procedures.

Li Keke accompanied Lin Ran to the designated IV area.

Given the conditions and influence of the Lin family, they could have easily arranged a high-class hospital room with just a single phone call. However, Lin Ran felt that it was just a common cold and fever, and there was really no need to owe anyone a favor.

Halfway there, Li Keke quietly tugged at Lin Ran's arm and lowered her voice, her eyes filled with surprise: "Ranran, look at those few people over there. They're covered in dust, disheveled, with stubble on their faces and bloodshot eyes. They look so travel-worn and disheveled, just like savages from the mountains."

"You love spouting nonsense. Have you ever actually seen a savage?" Lin Ran was very weak, but she couldn't help but retort to the best friend she had grown up with.

"It's true! Look, don't they look like savages?" Li Keke insisted.

Lin Ran looked in the direction she was pointing, her gaze sweeping over the few people she mentioned. Upon seeing the anxious face of one of them, her entire body stiffened abruptly. Her dizzy brain suddenly cleared, and a complex mixture of emotions welled up in her heart.

It was him!

Instantly, feelings of grievance, embarrassment, and anger surged into her heart!

From childhood to adulthood, she had been held in the palm of her parents' hands and had never suffered any grievances.

But that day, she had been hit by a man in the mountains!

That was also the first time she had ever been hit by anyone, and it was two incredibly insulting slaps!

Being hit was one thing, but even her high fever today was inextricably linked to this person!

Lin Ran subconsciously clenched her hands, wanting only to turn and hide. But as soon as she moved her feet, she stopped abruptly, her heart conflicted.

While she was certainly angry at the man's recklessness, she was also very clear that he had mistakenly thought she was trying to end her life and had acted out of good intentions to save her.

It was just that his behavior had been excessive in the heat of the moment, leading to a misunderstanding.

Although her fever was related to him, strictly speaking, it couldn't be considered malicious harm on his part.

Revised Final Draft

Lin Ran didn't know the name of this reckless man, but she saw someone lying on a hospital gurney beside him. The injured person was pale and sweating all over, looking quite seriously hurt; meanwhile, he was running around seeking help, only to be left with a look of despair and helplessness in the end.

Lin Ran let out a long sigh.

After much internal conflict, the kindness in her heart suppressed all her anger.

Taking a deep breath and enduring her discomfort, she stepped forward and walked toward Zheng Jing.

Oh well, let's just consider it repaying his "life-saving grace"!
