58: Chapter 58 Beautiful lady, your name is Lü Dongbin?
Fearing Guo Jianjun might overthink, Zheng Jing explained: "Because strictly speaking, I can't count that beauty as a friend. We had a big misunderstanding before, and even now, I don't even know her name."
Hearing Zheng Jing say this, Guo Jianjun wore an expression that said, 'I don't believe a word of it': "What? You're saying you don't even know each other? Then how come she was willing to step in and do us such a huge favor?"
Zheng Jing smiled bitterly and shook his head, spreading his hands as he uttered that classic, timeless quote: "Believe it or not, I believe it."
Guo Jianjun rubbed his face: "Alright, then you hurry on over. I'll just happen to notify my uncle and aunt as well."
Zheng Jing nodded and casually instructed: "Put it delicately, Brother Jun. Don't frighten Uncle Guo and Aunt Guo."
Guo Jianjun grinned: "Don't worry, your Brother Jun isn't stupid."
"OK, then I'll head over first."
Remembering that she had stepped in to help solve a major problem, and that she was currently running a high fever and on an IV drip, it really wouldn't be appropriate for him to show up empty-handed.
After thinking for a moment, Zheng Jing didn't go directly to the emergency room's infusion area. Instead, he walked out of the outpatient building, carefully selected nutritional products like pure milk and protein powder at the shop by the entrance, picked up a large bag of fresh fruit, and then, carrying two full bags of items, turned back into the emergency room's infusion area.
Every hospital's emergency room seems the same; they are always overcrowded.
Zheng Jing scanned the rows of seats carefully. It didn't take long before he spotted the three of them in the corner. No other reason—Lin Ran was simply too beautiful; even in a crowd, she was easy to recognize.
At this moment, Lin Ran was leaning against the back of her chair with an IV needle in the back of her hand, the medicine slowly dripping from the tube. Her complexion was still pale, but fortunately, after taking fever-reducing medicine and getting on the drip, her spirits had lifted slightly.
Li Keke was by her side, lowering her voice and persistently asking something. As Zheng Jing approached, he faintly heard a sentence: "How on earth did you meet that savage?"
Lin Ran kept her eyes closed, with no intention of acknowledging her at all.
Sister Wang sat on the outermost side, constantly monitoring the drip rate, taking care of her very attentively.
"Hello! Is she feeling any better?" Zheng Jing walked up carrying the items and greeted them in a low voice.
Seeing that the person before her was the very "savage" she had been talking about, Li Keke quickly and awkwardly clamped her little mouth shut.
She then said: "Ranran, your friend is here to see you."
As Zheng Jing spoke, Lin Ran had already opened her eyes. Seeing it was him, she asked in confusion: "What's wrong? Are there still issues with your friend?"
Zheng Jing shook his head, then bowed slightly and said with utmost sincerity: "My friend is fine now. Thank you so much for today! If you hadn't stepped in to help, we wouldn't know how much longer we'd be struggling."
Lin Ran nodded: "It was just a small effort, not worth mentioning."
Zheng Jing looked at her earnestly and said in an unprecedented tone of sincerity: "You absolutely cannot say that! My friend's fracture was very serious. If the optimal surgery time had been missed, it's very possible he would have been left with a disability. If not for your help, his whole life could have been ruined, so I really, truly thank you!"
Pestered by Zheng Jing's repeated expressions of gratitude, Lin Ran sighed weakly: "Big brother, are you ever going to stop being annoying? I already said it was just a small, effortless favor; there's no need to keep bringing it up over and over."
Li Keke chimed in from the side: "Exactly. Who just says 'thank you' with empty words? How does it go in the TV shows? If not 'dedicating your life to him,' at least you should offer to 'be a beast of burden' for him, right?"
After saying this, she playfully winked at Zheng Jing, a crisp little sound, "De," popping from her lips.
Lin Ran glared at her fiercely. This little girl was getting more and more unrestrained with her words. If she weren't so exhausted today, she would have definitely grabbed those two big coconuts of hers hard.
Zheng Jing felt a bit embarrassed by Li Keke's teasing, his face flushing red. He quickly raised his hands to push the two large bags of gifts forward: "I'm really sorry, I came in a rush and didn't have time to properly prepare a gift. Please accept these nutritional supplements and fruit to help build up your strength. Once your IV drip is finished, I'll treat you to dinner tonight as a small token of my appreciation."
Lin Ran glanced at Zheng Jing listlessly, then pointed to her hand with the needle inserted and asked calmly: "Look at me right now—do I look like I can go out to eat?"
Seeing how incredibly weak Lin Ran looked, Zheng Jing thought that made sense. She was still running a high fever; what kind of food could she possibly eat?
"I'm truly sorry, I didn't think it through. Let's wait until you've completely recovered then. By the way, excuse me for asking, but what is your name? You helped us with such a huge favor, and I don't even know your name or contact information—it really is inexcusable."
After a few seconds of silence, Lin Ran spoke slowly with a lazy yet teasing tone: "My name is Lü Dongbin."
Zheng Jing was full of shock: "What? Lü Dongbin? Someone actually has that name?"
