17: Killed human cultivator
After these three human Cultivators appeared, Great King Hui She laughed outright. "People of the Beast Taming Sect, you really are impatient. Coming out now, are you ready to die?"
His voice was laced with cold killing intent, as if he intended to kill every human before him.
The leader was a man wearing golden Daoist robes. He gripped his sword tightly. "A mere Spirit Beast dares to speak so arrogantly. It just so happens I'm lacking a life-bound demon beast, and you'll do nicely."
For the normal Yao Race, the greatest insult was to become a human's Spirit Beast. Hearing this, Great King Hui She's expression changed; he now wanted nothing more than to kill the man.
Great King Hui She soared into the air, the dragon scales on his body shimmering with golden light. He opened his mouth, and three bolts of lightning actually flew out. No one knew that even at the Qi Refinement Stage, Great King Hui She could master such Heaven-Defying Spells. As expected, Dragon Kin were far more powerful than other monsters; even as a mere Spirit Beast, he was this formidable.
These three bolts of lightning actually struck two Cultivators until they spat blood. Only the leading man still had the strength to fight.
"Junior Brother Chi Yan, Junior Brother Xuan Ming, you two step back. I will meet this monster myself."
After saying that, he raised his sword and charged. He was actually one of the few human Cultivators who specialized in close combat. However, Gu Yuchuan didn't care about that; he was preparing to ambush this Chi Yan.
He approached the other party slowly while invisible. Normally, his invisibility technique would have difficulty evading the Divine Sense of a Qi Refining Great Perfection Cultivator. But now, the opponent was injured and focused on the battlefield, giving Gu Yuchuan the chance for a sneak attack. It wasn't until his venomous fangs bit into the other's neck that Chi Yan finally reacted.
He wanted to strike back, but as his magic power circulated through his body, he found he couldn't muster any strength. This was the toxin eroding him. Xuan Ming, the Sword Cultivator, reacted and sent a streak of sword light charging toward Gu Yuchuan. The sword light was unstoppable and pierced through Gu Yuchuan's body, but the body turned into a stream of water. It turned out that when he bit the opponent, he had used his Water Manipulation talent to create a decoy for himself, while his true body had already departed. He didn't want to be pierced by that Flying Sword again.
This decoy was a very advanced application of Water Manipulation, but it only created a Clone that looked like him. In reality, it had no combat power and could only be used to deceive others, just as it had now.
Chi Yan clutched his neck, which was bruised purple where he had been bitten. The toxin had already spread throughout his body via his blood. Gu Yuchuan was originally a venomous snake, and this toxin had been enhanced by the System. As he promoted to a Mid-grade Demon Beast, the toxin was strengthened again. Even for a Qi Refining Great Perfection Cultivator, it was very difficult to withstand a sneak attack.
However, he didn't know if he could actually poison Chi Yan to death. After all, he was only a small Cultivator at the Fifth Level of Qi Refining. This was all he could do; the rest was beyond his consideration.
He had already retreated to the Yao Race's side to prevent the opponent from continuing to attack him. Now, Chi Yan felt his breathing become very labored and his mind lost consciousness. Clearly, this toxin was not something he could currently resist.
Xuan Ming immediately took out a detoxifying Medicinal Pill from his Storage Pouch and fed it to him. Only then did Chi Yan's complexion improve significantly, though he was still barely breathing and looked to be in a very poor state. This was only natural; could a Yao Beast's poison be so easily resolved?
He locked onto Gu Yuchuan and summoned his blue Flying Sword. But just then, their Senior Brother, Jin Ling, was defeated. Great King Hui She bit him in half, showing great Divine Might. This terrified Xuan Ming so much that he forgot about attacking the small snake demon Gu Yuchuan. Now, he had only one thing on his mind: escaping for his life.
Although they were both at the Qi Refining Great Perfection, he was far weaker than his Senior Brother. If his Senior Brother couldn't defeat the Serpent, he certainly couldn't either. Where was their backup? Hadn't the School's Elder said someone would be protecting them in the shadows? Where was the person protecting them? Where did they go?
At that moment, a white sword light flashed across the sky, creating a rift between the Human Race and the Yao Race. An old man with an immortal aura descended. He was Elder Heavenly Snake of the Beast Taming Sect. He looked at the Serpent, unable to hide the joy in his eyes. His current Foundation Establishment Mid Stage cultivation was largely thanks to his High-grade Demon Beast-level Spirit Beast. He was now thinking how wonderful it would be if this Serpent became his own Spirit Beast.
Great King Hui She breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the Foundation Establishment Stage Cultivator arrive; his task was over. A figure with a turtle's head emerged from the ground—this was the Black Tortoise Demon General.
"People of the Beast Taming Sect, you've crossed the line. Do you... intend to violate the agreement between the Human and Yao Races?"
A hundred years ago, the Human Race and the Yao Race had experienced a world-shaking war. Although the Yao Race was defeated, several Soul Transformation experts of the Human Race also died. Neither side wanted to continue fighting, so they signed an agreement. This agreement designated Cloud Sea Marsh as the territory of the Yao Race; they could not leave in large numbers, and the Human Race could not enter at will. Although neither side followed the rules strictly, this was the first time an entire Sect had begun plotting against the Yao Race. This was also why their high-level leadership was so cautious.
The Yao Race also had its own considerations, but no one present would be able to understand them. Their level was simply too low. Even those involved in the events couldn't know too much.
After the Black Tortoise Demon General appeared, it actually had nothing to do with them anymore.
Elder Heavenly Snake looked at the Black Tortoise Demon General, feeling uneasy in his heart. He didn't know why the Beast Taming Sect had been exposed. He also didn't know which Disciple had failed to handle things properly. If the Yao Race truly wanted revenge for this, they would have a legitimate reason, and the Human Race might not necessarily intervene. Now, he felt somewhat stuck in a difficult position.
He looked at the Black Tortoise Demon General: "What? Has the Yao Race now learned to pin false labels on people like this? What do you mean my Beast Taming Sect wants to violate the agreement between the Human and Yao Races? We of the Beast Taming Sect need Spirit Beasts for our cultivation, so of course we will enter. As expected, your Yao Race's brains don't work well."
The Black Tortoise Demon General didn't bother to say anything more: "Take your Disciples and get out. If you enter again in the future, a Golden Core Demon King will take action. Now, get lost."
Elder Heavenly Snake wanted to say more, but this was the Yao Race's territory. Although he was angry, he didn't dare say anything else. He was also afraid that a Demon King would truly come to kill him, so he slunk away with his people. However, of the three Disciples, only Xuan Ming remained; Chi Yan had still died under Gu Yuchuan's venom.
