110: Chapter 110 Slaying the Giant Beast
As Lin Ye landed, the soles of his boots crushed a section of semi-dried Blood Vine.
Dark red sap splashed onto the nearby rubble, immediately emitting pungent white smoke.
He did not look down.
The Bone-crowned Giant Beast in the middle of the street sensed the vibration of the ground, and its massive head slowly turned toward him.
A giant mouth split open on that spindle-shaped head, which lacked normal facial features.
Between its grayish-white broken teeth, heat mixed with the stench of decay spewed out.
Roar!
The roar crashed through the entire street, shaking the accumulated snow off the ruined buildings until it fell in rustling cascades.
On the seventh floor of a derelict building, Zhao Mengmeng's arm holding the crossbow trembled for a moment before she forced it still.
"What the hell are you roaring for!"
She only realized her voice was a bit raspy after she finished cursing.
Instead of retreating, Lin Ye advanced.
The Dark Weaver shot out a Nano-wire, wrapping around a section of a steel beam's wreckage by the roadside.
That segment of the steel beam weighed several hundred pounds; it was lodged diagonally in the ruins, stuck fast by frozen soil and rubble.
The bracer's engine surged violently.
The steel beam was yanked out by sheer force, dragging a trail of rubble as it flew up.
Lin Ye flicked his wrist, and the entire length of the steel beam was swung in a vicious arc by the Nano-wire.
Bang!
The steel beam slammed heavily into the giant beast's damaged bone crown.
The bone crown, which had already been corroded by the Main Vine, exploded into a mass of cracks.
Grayish-white fragments splattered everywhere as the giant beast's head was knocked to the side.
The Great Xia Live Stream was flooded with comments.
[Beautiful! Break the armor first!]
[If that hit my head, my family tree would lose two pages!]
[Who from overseas said Brother Eye was just a delivery boy? Come out and take your beating!]
The Bone-crowned Giant Beast was thoroughly enraged.
It slammed its remaining forelimb onto the ground.
Boom!
The street's rubble was shaken up and pelted toward Lin Ye from all directions.
Lin Ye's right arm shot out an anchor, pinning it to the exposed rebar on the second floor of a nearby building.
The bracer retracted.
His body glided horizontally across the ground.
Rubble grazed his shoulders and back as it flew past, striking the walls with loud bangs.
A fist-sized chunk of concrete grazed his left arm, tearing his beast-hide sleeve instantly.
Lin Ye didn't stop moving after he landed.
Using the pull of the anchor, he circled toward the giant beast's rear flank.
There was a massive wound there that had been torn open by the Main Vine earlier.
The grayish-white carapace was already shattered, and the muscles beneath were completely exposed, twitching rhythmically.
Lin Ye's left eye opened briefly.
The surface of the wound still held the red lingering light of danger, but there was no hard shell blocking the interior.
A golden light lingered deeper within the abdominal cavity.
He closed his left eye and gripped the Fire Axe tightly.
The giant beast's massive body dragged across the street, its shattered carapace creating a piercing scraping sound; its cumbersome form simply couldn't keep up with the speed of Lin Ye's movements.
Lin Ye pressed close to its flank.
The first axe strike fell.
The Fire Axe hacked into the grayish-white muscle, but was caught by the toughness after only penetrating three inches.
Lin Ye pressed down on the handle with both hands, using his shoulders and back to force the axe blade downward.
Grayish-white fluid sprayed onto the axe face, and white smoke immediately rose from the metal edge.
The giant beast shuddered all over in pain.
Lin Ye pulled the axe out, and a second strike followed immediately in the same spot.
This time, the blade cut deeper.
The wound was widened, revealing the pulsing dark fascia inside.
The giant beast let out a miserable howl, and its massive body suddenly rolled over.
Lin Ye couldn't hold onto the axe in time and was directly flung away by the immense force.
While he was in mid-air, the rubble and broken vines on the street rushed toward him.
The Dark Weaver's anchor shot out, pinning into a heavy concrete slab on the ground.
The bracer retracted forcefully.
Lin Ye's downward trajectory was yanked to a halt, and a tearing pain shot through his shoulder.
He slammed into the slushy snow, rolling twice before coming to a stop.
The giant beast's body rolled past, missing him by a hair's breadth with a thunderous crash.
If he had been half a beat slower, he would have been crushed into a meat patty on the spot by that ten-meter-class carcass.
On the seventh floor, Zhao Mengmeng was so anxious she almost pulled the trigger.
She held her finger back, her eyes fixed on the Medium Pale-Type wandering below the building.
She couldn't attract the monsters.
Lin Ye had said she couldn't fire the crossbow.
But her entire chest felt like it was about to explode.
"Get up, you bastard!"
Lin Ye pushed himself up from the concrete slab; the webbing between his left thumb and forefinger had split, and blood dripped down the axe handle.
The giant beast had already turned back toward him.
Its severed forelimb dragged on the ground, while another mangled limb barely supported half of its body.
It pushed forward, churning up the slush and snow to form a foul-smelling trench.
Lin Ye did not retreat.
He raised his right arm.
The Dark Weaver fired multiple anchors in a volley.
The first passed through a crack in the bone crown, embedding itself into the internal grayish-white bone.
The second drilled into the deep wound of the severed limb, wrapping around the half-exposed skeleton.
The third shot into the muscle tear Lin Ye had hacked open on the flank.
The fourth passed through a black hole in the shoulder and neck that had been corroded by the Main Vine.
The Nano-wires crisscrossed inside the giant beast's flesh and bone.
The giant beast charged toward him.
The ground shook.
Lin Ye lowered his center of gravity, his right arm tensing.
The bracer's engine emitted a piercing, high-frequency vibration.
The Nano-wires tightened.
The giant beast's forward momentum was cut short by force.
Bone within the cracks was crushed, and muscles deep in the wounds were mangled.
Despite the meat-grinder-like pain inside its body, the giant beast continued to push forward.
Lin Ye's boots plowed two furrows into the slushy snow.
His right arm was pulled numb, and the edges of the bracer pressed directly into his skin, breaking it.
Zhao Mengmeng's eyes grew red as she watched.
"Don't try to tank it, release the wires!"
Lin Ye couldn't hear her.
Below the giant beast's knee joint, the Nano-wires had already dragged it into a distorted, snapping angle.
Crack!
The support structure of the giant beast's remaining forelimb snapped.
Its massive body pitched forward onto its knees, its head slamming toward Lin Ye's position.
Lin Ye stepped to the side to dodge.
The wind pressure from the giant beast's impact sent half of his cloak flapping wildly.
It knelt before Lin Ye; the crack in the bone crown opened up, revealing a weak bone seam where the neck connected to the crown.
Lin Ye released some of the Nano-wires and gripped the Fire Axe handle with both hands.
He stepped onto the giant beast's drooping severed limb and used the momentum to leap up.
The first axe strike landed on the neck's bone seam.
The blade hacked deep into the bone, the impact numbing his arms.
The giant beast struggled to lift its head.
Lin Ye used his left knee to pin down the edge of the cracked bone crown and pulled the axe for another strike.
The second strike widened the crack.
Grayish-white fluid sprayed onto the beast-hide on his chest, instantly burning several holes through it.
The third strike.
Lin Ye put his entire body weight into the axe handle.
The blade severed the main cervical vertebra.
Crack!
The giant beast's struggling stopped abruptly.
Its massive head slammed into the street, its body twitching a few times like an aftershock before it died completely.
The ruins suddenly went quiet for a heartbeat.
Then, the Great Xia Live Stream erupted to the point where the screen was covered by comments.
[Slain! He actually slew it!]
[Solo kill on a ten-meter giant beast! Who dares say Great Xia's number one relies on luck!]
[Overseas dogs, come out and talk! Weren't you saying it was a delivery? Who's eating the funeral feast now!]
[Brother Eye is awesome! Mengmeng don't cry, Brother Eye is alive!]
Lin Ye took half a step back, his left eye flashing open.
The golden light was deep within the giant beast's flank.
Lin Ye swung the Fire Axe, hacking frantically at the thinnest part of the giant beast's flank carapace.
One strike.
Two strikes.
Three strikes.
The semi-dissolved carapace was forced open, and foul-smelling internal organs mixed with black blood gushed out.
Lin Ye stepped aside to avoid the first spray.
The edge of the Fire Axe had turned black from corrosion.
Lin Ye used the back of the axe to roughly push aside the steaming organs.
In the distance, several Medium Pale-Types heard the commotion of the giant beast falling and were heading back from the street corner.
Bone blades scraped against the walls, leaving a series of piercing sounds.
Lin Ye leaned half of his body into the giant beast's abdominal cavity.
A concentrated stench of decay hit him, making his vision go dark for a moment.
He used the axe handle to pry open a section of mesentery and finally saw that dark red nodule.
The surface of the nodule was still squirming, its casing covered in veins left by the Main Vine.
The golden light was inside.
Lin Ye reached out and grabbed the base of the nodule, yanking it hard.
The connecting fascia was torn apart.
Corrosive fluid sprayed out, splashing onto his cloak's sleeve.
The sleeve smoked and curled, and a searing pain spread up his arm.
Holding the nodule, Lin Ye rolled out of the corrosive quagmire.
The Medium Pale-Types in the distance had already charged within a hundred meters.
On the seventh floor's broken wall, Zhao Mengmeng's forehead was covered in cold sweat from anxiety.
"Hurry and leave!"
Lin Ye threw the nodule onto a concrete slab and brought the Fire Axe down heavily.
The casing split open.
A fist-sized crystal rolled out from inside.
Deep golden-red patterns flowed within the crystal.
Only Lin Ye's left eye could see that the golden light was blindingly intense.
A light screen popped up in his right eye.
[earth source blood crystal]
Lin Ye grabbed the crystal and stuffed it into his shirt.
The shrieks of the Medium Pale-Types were already close at hand.
